    Default Can spellswords crital hit?

EDIT: I just noticed i made a spelling error in the headline. Should have said "critical". Can't edit that sorry.

I have splashed some wizard in a build i have and sometimes - very rarely but still - the spellswords hit for 600 damage.

As i am currently only 12 levels of wizard and have 200 spellpower it usually hits for between 40 and 80.

But as i stated it can hit for 600 sometimes.

So I am wondering if the spellsword imbue can critical hit?

Or is there another explanation why i sometimes deal 600 elemental damage?

Is it the wizard cleave and i simply forget it only happens when I use this?

Well, as far as I know, "on proc" type effects don't crit, only the base weapon damage.

The T5 cleave DOES do an extra 1-6 force damage per hit - could it be this?

Now the elemental imbues AND the force blast both scale with spell power. Things like arcane siphon and force's point temporarily boost this. Is it possible the extra damage is coming from these? I can't see how you'd get 600 though? Max should be around 250 from what I can gather... It IS possible the elemental imbues are subject to separate SPELL critical chance - this is the only explanation I can think of for 600...
Sure it's not a TOTAL damage of 600?

No it is not the total damage.

    I am level 18.

I did around 70 normal damage and then the 600 acid damage. I am pretty sure it said exactly 600.

It happen before too. The first time i thought id had seen things and now i am wondering if the 600 was actually 60 and my eyes was deceiving me?

This has only happened two times i noticed in 6 levels so it has not been often.

I will continue in epics and report back here if i see it again.

Otherwise i think we should assume that i am seeing extra zeroes for some reason

If anybody else noticed this please let me know.

Can we see screen shots of both?

    1. The times where it hits for 40-80 damage

    2. The times where it hits for 600 damage.

My guess is, there is something else happening here.

Do you have the Colours of the Queen epic past life?
It occasionally does hundreds of damage.

Yes screenshots would be really nice. Unfortunately i did not take one of the 600 damage and the 60-80 acid damage is not special.
I will try and see if i can get screenshots but it might take some time.

I do not have Colours of the Queen but that could have explained it.

    I am really perplexed.

Ok I think I found out what it is and i feel rather embaressed.

I was using the Bone Crusher and i think it was the rockslide damage.

    However this raises another question.

When i "cursed" the enemies with any of the elemental words from henshin this rockslide damage was in purple.

I tried both with the electric and acid curse and both were purple?

I call my build Gambit and he is 13/6/1 Wizard/Monk/Rogue.

I could undestand if it was only when i cursed them with electric both as it also works for acid I must miss something else than rockslide.

Purple damage means the target is taking extra damage from vulnerability.
Yellow damage means the target is taking less damage due to resistance.
    Orange is normal damage.

Damage can be reduced by PRR/MRR or Reaper difficulty, but this doesn't change the colour.

I think you cracked it with the Bone Crusher Rockslide effect. Looking at your screenshots, we can see it's bludgeon damage, not lightning or other elemental damage, so definitely NOT the spellsword

P.S. Keeping the combat log open and reading it is a great way to solve mysteries like this, and learn a bit about what is actually going on with the numbers.

Good luck and keep it up!

The monk ability that you were using to "curse" the enemy applies 2 sets of vulnerability.

10% extra damage to that particular element, and 2% more vulnerability.

Yes i read that too. The thing is I am wondering why my normal bludgeon damage is in normal orange and the extra bludgeon damage from shockwave is in purple, hence doing extra damage.

Shouldn't they be the same color?

That does not make sense to me?

The proc is a magical effect, your normal damage is a physical effect.

It is just a coloring system. Everything is doing more damage, but this coloring system was made before players could give vulnerabilities, and there isn't any monster that is vulnerable to any physical damage, so they never added the coloring to physical damage,

At least this is my best guess. Your base damage will go up with more vulnerability.
