Will this improve performance and lag or another cost saving move ?

Cordovan please have the coffee and snacks ready to go on Tuesday (or make sure who ever is responsible is on their "A" game so maintenance can be on their "A" game). 22 hours is a serious marathon for maintenance and thankfully this isn't every week. I wish all of you sanity next Wednesday.

For the many who are paying for access to the game, just what in game "freebies" can we expect for the 22 hours of downtime, being said that even the 2 hours up time is not in my awake time so will be 2 days between access?

Note: We apologize for the lengthy downtime, but this downtime is due to some significant data center work being done. We hope to reopen the worlds early, but that will depend on how things go throughout the day on Wednesday.
Never understand why you seem to do this during events?

Doubt they have much choice. My reading of the announcement is it's a Data Centre planned maintenance. Fairly sure SSG (and Turbine before them) just rent space in a 3rd party DC, so they won't have too much say in when hardware refreshes/Maintenance occurs (especially if we're talking HVAC stuff)

If I remember correctly the Great Data Center Move™ was to a Warner Brothers site. Whether WB owned or leased that space I of course have no idea... But since there hasn't been a move since then I'd assume that the servers are still in that same location. An agreement for leasing the space was probably a part of the spin off contracts.

Actually, for those of us paying (VIP), it "should" represent an extension of our subscription by 1 day.

You're more than likely correct, which means their in the hands of WB as well as (possibly) the DC owners....

SSG's say in when/what maintenance gets done in that case case dropped from "Please don't do it then. Pretty please. With sprinkles on top" to "Oh. Bugger"

There don't need to be any. By agreeing to the EULA, you surely read this bit?

"...may change, modify, suspend, or discontinue any aspect of the Game at any time"

Surely missing a day of game play won't ruin your life? I know I'll be script writing or perhaps attending a D&D tabletop one-shot session.

You missed the joke. He said March APRIL 14. Thus predicting it will be next month.

    Default I think it's a plot

Bah so much for playing on Ash Wednesday...which is a public holiday in many countries.

Oh well, I guess that's incentive to get out of the house :-)

Last couple days have been getting people kicked from Server without warning, and that little message @ the top "You have been booted from the Server".

Any explanation as to why this is happening? Over on Orien

I'm really hoping this will address the EXTREMELY long load screens we've been experiencing lately.

OTOH, if this is a cost-saving maneuver, it could make matters worse.

Time will tell, we'll see how it all shakes out. For now, I'm optimistic.

So I know there was going to be a downtime. But where was the in game 60min,45,30,15,10,5min notice there was none. Just 1 would have been nice instead of just being booted. Very RUDE.

Yeah as I said in another thread, since I am so bad at time zones I thought I might get an hour or two this morning (EU) but just got red latency, and closed.

Well I guess see you all tomorrow.

Shame that it happens to be a holiday for me... Time to work in the Garden I guess.

I dont want to come off sounding stupid or being rude to anyone, but..... if you sub per month and $15.00 and there are on average 30 days in a month then your asking for a freebie for a one day update costing you 50cents.
maybe you should just let it go and be glad they are making improvements to the game/server. Do we really need ask for a freebie??
    Just saying.....

    Default No world shutdown warning?

Did I somehow miss the world shutdown notices? Or were they removed at some point?

I was surprised when the game froze and then disconnected. Fortunately, I was just in an explorer area. I saw the downtime notice, but didn't look closely enough to realize it wasn't for a normal time period.
