Default Can someone help me with a First Life Quarterstaff Build?

Hello, I am a returning player and was planning to play with some friends. I am going to have to start at level 1 with him and I really wanted to do a quarterstaff build.

Here is my idea so far (I know nothing about quarterstaff builds)

    Race: Elf
    Class: 12 Rogue, 6 Monk 2 Fighter

Starting Stats (32 Point No Tomes): 16 Str, 18 Dex, 12 Con, 14 Int
(first stat level up goes to str for 17 STR (prereq for THF)

    Feats:

1: Dragonmark of Shadow (Displace clicky due to lack of HP)

    3: Power Attack (fighter THF)

    6: Cleave

    9: THF

12: Improved Crit Bludge (fighter improved THF)

    15: Power Critical

    18: Greater THF

I don't know the leveling order yet but monk feats are Dodge, Mobility, & Spring Attack. Rogue would take Opportunist.

If anyone has a better first life q-staff build suggestion I am glad just to dump this idea and use that instead...

    Hello-

I run a similar build and have a lot of fun with it.
You have decent ranged single target DPS as well...
This is a little dated, but you should get the idea...
(need some STR for the feats)

Drow DEX based - DEX bonus and improved ranged DPS with Shuriken
(extra throw % based on DEX - stacking)

    13 Rogue
    Improved Evasion
    Defensive Roll
Full Spot/Search/OL/DD/Diplo/UMD with some Balance and Jump
Arcobat 5 (with upcoming improvements - will be better)
    Sneak Attack
Qstaff speed with DEX to hit and DMG

    6 Monk
    Shadow Veil (25% miss chance)
Shuriken (extra throw % based on DEX - stacking)
    Extra sneak attack
    Tier 4 Monk Stances
Feats - allows for Cleave/Great Cleave with Full Two Handed Fighting

    1 Fighter
    Extra Feat...

Note highish STR requirement for Two Handed Fighting

Why 13 Rogue what does that give over 12? Isn't the fighters feat better?

At 13 Rogue you get an extra "bonus" Rogue only feat. (and and extra SA die)

    Feat: (Rogue Bonus) Improved Evasion
    and
    Feat: (Rogue Bonus) Defensive Roll

Are the ones I took - several are nice....

The OP should be aware that any build before... oh, about August of '13, is based on an entirely different concept for "enhancements" - and is therefore at best in need of translation to the new enhancement system, and quite possibly badly flawed.

Here is a link to 3 "modern" builds, plus another for new players, all solid:

The OP should also be aware that staves tend to break far more easily than most other weapons. They can be repaired, but not usually ~in~ a quest, only between quests, so carry several. Also be aware that drop-loot staves come in several materials, each w/ diff "durability" - wood is the worst (but also the most common, by far), densewood/darkwood are slightly better, but steel (yes, steel) is by far the best. When looking over your loot or in the AH, mouse-hover over the item and check the material. And/or just farm a named one, which tend to last a little longer - Elemental Bloom is a winner.

I've run the "new player" build and it was a blast. However, quarterstaff builds are not without their problems - it is what it is. You have been warned.

That prob be pretty decent build for a first lifer
Just you want to take improved evasion at 10 rogue,
And power crit not really gonna help

That being said, pure 20 henshin prob the best staff build
But if you want to trap then going rogue prob best
You got to learn to tumble
In all my years playing, I've never used tumble tho

    Here's an alternative
    New build
    Druid henshin str build
    Half elf tr
    17/2/1 monk cleric Druid
    Lawful neutral of Aureon

    Str 16 10 +5
    Dex 14 6
    Con 14 6
    Int 10 2
    Wis 14 6
    Cha 14 6
    +6 tomes
    +2 complete

    Umd, jump

    1 monk thf
    Feat pa
    2 Druid shilila rams might
    3 monk dodge
    Feat cleave
    4 monk fist of light
    5-6 monk great cleave
    7 monk mobility
    8 monk
    9 Cleric completionist divine might
10 Cleric str domain of Aureon
    11-12 monk ic blunt
    13-15 monk ithf
    16-18 monk grandmaster of forms
    19-20 monk

    Ap
    13 warpriest
    38 henshin
    (5) half elf dilettante paladin
    8 ninja mp boost
    12 Shintao 20prr
    -8 19-20

    Notes
    Happy turkey day

to convert this to 32 point, you need to lose 4 off stats
Prob 2 off int and 2 off wisdom
And prob go human if you're FTP

So at 1 human free feat take trip
And at 9 instead of completionist take spring attack
At 18 you could stick with gmof, or take gthf
You always carry at 18, so last two levels are lost
This is better dps, but no trapping

Best advise I can give new players,
    Go VIP
And buy a +6 supreme tome, or +8 if you can afford

    Basically stick is cleave build
If you plan to tr this will carry you
If you want to go epic go pure
    Kil Glory
    30 alchemist

So, whether or not you are planning to go on to Epics and Level 30*, most players never take Level 19.** Instead, they park at Level 18 for a while and "bank" the XP for both 19 and 20, and when they hit cap the go straight to 20, get what they need to TR, and reincarnate back to Level 1, good to go.

(* I, personally, do NOT recommend that any new player go on to Epics on their 1st character. Too much to learn, on all fronts. TR once, get a 34 point build, re-do Heroics, learn (and fix) the mistakes you made first time, then decide. ymmv.)

(** Why? B/c if you take Level 19, you miss out on most Level 16 LFM's. A group loses the (+50%!) "Bravery Bonus" to XP if there is a character more than +2 Levels over the base level of the quest. So, a Level 18 character can join Level 16-20 quests, but a Level 19 character can only join 17-20. Not a law, just a common rule.)

So, Vish's excellent point is that, if you are planning to TR at 20, you should plan for an 18-level build, since you'll be at 18 for a while, but might only see 20 for a dozen or two quests (and less if people are helping you farm Tokens).
