Unusual Display Mode Error

I recently installed the game on a flash drive rather than my hard drive, for better load speeds, but I'm having a few issues with the game. For one, if I am in Windowed Mode, the game forces me into a 1600x900 resolution, which is way less than I can play the game on if it's installed on my hard drive. If I switch the game to "Full Screen (Windowed)", I can then bump my resolution up to the normal value, and play perfectly fine. However, every time I load the game, if I don't reset the display options to their defaults from the launcher, I get a "Your desktop display mode must be set to at least 1600 x 900 to run in windowed mode at the game's current resolution setting." And then the game force-quits. My monitor's display is 1920x1080, which is obviously greater than 1600x900, so why does the game keep telling me I can't run it at that setting, when I clearly can, by switching the game to that setting once I am in the game? It's quite frustrating to have to reset to default every time I boot the game, or else play in a tiny game window.

Also, god forbid I ever switch to "Full Screen", the game immediately gets a fatal direct X error and force quits. I don't have any of these issues if playing the game on my hard drive, but of course the game loads a lot slower that way.
