Default Yet another 20 Monk Wisdom based build

An updated version of this build for U55 can be found in Post 23 https://forums.ddo.com/forums/showth...=1#post6577238

    Hi Everyone,

Below I present my Wisdom based Monk build for my all past life character Maetrim who I play on the Cannith server.
With the advent of U48 and the new Feywild item sets, there has been a significant change in the gear he uses in
standard operation. The gear selected provides Eminence of Summer (Tier 4) and Eminence of Winter (Tier 5) set
bonuses and also has 3 items with Visions of the Future augment set for the +4 Artifact bonus to Wisdom.

The build is setup for self sufficiency and survivability with excellent non-fail saves assuming the DC is met.
It also has reasonable dps (~800 base damage and peaking at 6.5k on a crit) but also stacks Vulnerability over
time on enemies, and can also get Sneak attack damage using Unbalancing Strikes.

As can be seen in the details below he has 2878 standing Hitpoints, excellent avoidance defenses in 44% dodge,
ghostly and Multiple Displacement clickies. With 227 PRR, when he does get hit, it is usually not enough to take
him out unless facing very dangerous bosses on high reaper skulls. With regenertive Aasimar Healing Hands, weapon
vampirism, Fists of Light and excellent Healing Amplification of 353, he can self heal himself and others well
    into high skulls.

He has many immunities as standard, with FOM, Energy Drain, Mummy Rot and most Knockdowns never being an issue.

With Stunning Fist, Quiverring palm, Tomb of Jade, Dire Charge, Mass Frog and Everything is Nothing he also has
pretty good crowd control and instant death effects.

He is a pure Monk specialised in Handwrap fighting. Takes the full TWF line of feats and also uses Whirlwind attack.
The feat selection is setup to get Whirlwind attack by level 6. Some of the later epic feats are still under debate
in my own mind. With Past Life: Disciple of Dawn (+0.5[W]) possibly being switched out for Deflect Arrows and Scion
of the Atral Plane being swapped for Scion of Arborea for the extra DPS over the loss to some DCs and dodge.

Improved twf is almost always more dps than imp crit for wraps. With a X3 crit multiplier, you'd need 100 combined off-hand and doublestrike chance for imp crit to win, and only vs crittable targets with 0 fortification.

Most of your calculated monk/shintao/finisher DCs are using the old formulas.

Don't forget to slot a yellow +2 transmutation augment for mass frog. Also, legendary twisthallow cloak could be a quick swap for for another +3 dc.

I'd consider dropping one of your epic feats for precision. It's almost impossible to only miss on a 1 in legendary reaper content on bosses, even with precision.

If you use your healing finisher or cocoon, you might want to slot a devotion augment.

By this do you mean the feat order selection as I cam currently taking ITWF before IC: Bludgeon

Do you have a source for these changes as my formulas in use come directly from the wiki. If they're wrong I need to update.

I do actually have a +2 Transmutation slotted, just didn't have it in my build file. I will look into the item switch for more DC, but I refer to generally not have to switch gear to use an ability, such that the gear layout is setup to not require this as much as possible after initial buffing.

The build already has 97% Fortification bypass and a slotted Destructor augment, so I personally do not see the need for the use of Precision, at least when at cap.

Certainly space for one of these augments. I will add for the healing finisher, but I do not use cocoon as all twist slots assigned.

Never mind about the source. The individual wiki pages have the correct formulas present, but the enhancement pages were missing the mention of the stun bonuses to the DCs. I have updated my builder and the wiki pages.

Precision is for the 5% accuracy. If you're getting glancing blows on anything higher than a 1 (and you will be in legendary content), an additional 5% accuracy is like an additional 5% damage. It's not +5 to hit, it's 5%, which scales with legendary mob AC.

    No perfect pinnacle huh?
You know, in water stance, that's some of the best cc in the game

Otherwise, very similar to my build in theory crafting the celestial monk

It may be worth working this item into the gear set but my main concern is that the "Greater Reinforced Fists" does not stack with "Superior Reinforced Fists" which is present on the equipped Fleetfoot necklace.

Any idea if these effects stack? If not, I also have to update my planner effects

I can see your reasoning for this, but I have a couple of reasons for shying away:

    1. You can't use precision and Combat Expertise at the same time
    2. Although I am probably getting grazing hits I do not see that as such an issue as the loss to survivabiliy to be using it (loss of 20 PRR)
    3. There are no other feats I would want to give up to gain the option

No, they don't stack, higher of the two, so Fleetfoot
And the proc is 5%? But turns out pretty regular with high roa

If you're soloing a lot, or if you tend to be the one taking most if the hits when you group, then by all means go CE.

If you raid a lot, or if you group with a tank a lot, then that 20 PRR is presumably wasted. In that case, looking at your feats, it may make sense to switch out Improved Martial Arts for Precision. 5% more hits will have a larger DPS impact than +1W (when you're likely already at 13-14W), and it helps things like Tomb of Jade, QP, etc which need to hit to take effect.

If you do a mix of both (like I do), and mainly solo but raid twice a week with my guild, then you weigh +20PRR and +1W full time vs the ability to toggle between +20 PRR or +5% accuracy depending on situation.

Personally, I chose the former (+20 PRR and +1W full time, I didn't take Precision).

Nice build.. I'll have to put that gear set into the planner to see how it compares to my current set up.

I'm really looking forward to the Feywild raid and that new Monk Trinket. I think that is going to be a game changer for monks when it hits (if it stays the same as it does now).

Possible to squeeze in a level of Rogue for trapping? I love me some trapping when soloing.

Not exactly true. When I was doing class lives, I had some pretty good results with a 14 Fighter/6 Monk handwrap build. It used the Kensai tree to supplement some of the damage and tactics lost from not going monk. I had enough feats to take all the forms, and it performed. I did miss out on a few things. Most notably was Abundant Step, but overall it was a solid build.

Then again, this wasn't quite a "fighter splash" but more of a monk splash on a fighter... but for most purposes it was a monk.

No, it's exactly true and you didn't help your cause with your example. L20 monkey with handwraps is a pure class.

Pure Class = All 20 levels in the same class.

The fact that I split 2 classes (Fighter and Monk) means that build was not a pure class.

I was running with a 18/2 ftr monk. Sharn r6. He seemed to be doing good dps.
At one point I asked him if he was using duality, I wish, said he had morninglords on.
