I think your strategy was flawless! I'm also a very big fan of velour...
Dammit Kendra! Where were you on that one?!
The good: Slimes (and other monsters) summoned don't get the usual Reaper protections afforded to other monsters. They in fact count as summons all the way, meaning they get the increased damage taken instead.
The bad: Any monster spawned, including summons, can come with a Reaper attached, that is NOT conveniently affected by the above.
hey you made many friends! :-)
Yes, the oozes spawn many reapers. It is very dangerous hit many oozes at time.
Well what you do know is the strategy you tried didn't work
As others have said ooze are great at calling on new friends. It appears each time an ooze splits it acts as a summon point and the more splits the more opportunity to get the attention of a Reaper.
This may have been a good time to us the wooden club approach to smash ooze.
However, you could always try the "way far away" approach, ooze are generally slow and while it won't stop the spawning it does give you the best defense you can have - Not being in range of the attacker.
I remember that from when artificer was a new class and all I had was a repeater for that quest - of course they didn't have reapers back then and it was still tough dealing with just the splitting and population explosion.
Lol oozes are the bane of my existence.

Fun story!
But seriously, Devs, can we get a limit on spawns?
Might help with the lag...
it is a nice screenshot.
with the UI elements removed, it might have had a horrorshow feel to it.
but the name tags on all the surrounding slimes is cute.
Underground...no one can hear you dissolve.
