DDO randonly locks everything up

Been having this issue for about a month or so. Randomly in game, my screen would lock up, keyboard and mouse becomes unresponsive causing me to do a hard reset on my computer in order to log back in.

System:
Windows 10 Home 64-Bit Operating System, x64-based processor

CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6700HQ CPU @ 2.60GHz

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M 4GB

Memory: SK Hynix 16.0 GB

Last night, thinking it maybe a corrupted windows installation I contacted microsoft and spent 3 hours or so updated the drivers, did a in-place installation of Windows 10 Home and clean boot, memory diagnostic test which no errors of any kind came up. Everything on my laptop is up to date. I also uninstalled the game twice and reinstalled the game in two separate folders and still getting the issue. I tried running it as administrator and still same problem. I can run my other games just fine as far as I can tell but I seem to have an issue with a 14 year game.

weird. could it be laptop overheating?
or maybe try this: turn off sounds and turn off any fancy graphics to see if this still occurs. if not, start turning on features one by one to see which is causing trouble.

If my laptop was overheating it would be affecting my other games which it hasn't.
