Default What if PvP was bigger in the game?

I like the idea of PvP in the game, it helps people test out their characters offensively and defensively. However, I do wish there were more to PvP in the game. for example, in the wilderness, I am imagining a wilderness that is a public place where you and your party can be ambushed by another party, where the wilderness is one huge public instance. I feel that if you pull PvP more into the game, the more it will be like the actual tabletop game. I do like that PvP is included in taverns, however, I think that it would be cool if it were involved in the wilderness areas. This will also add to the fun in the wilderness areas. For example, I don't like walking through Korthos Island to get to Misery's Peak. However, If I knew that there could be players that could ambush me, then it would make it a way more "on-edge" experience. I also think that it would make the game a bit more challenging as well. The levels of the wilderness areas however, must not allow levels 5 levels above the base level inside, as this would be a kill pit for higher level players. I think this will just make the wilderness a more exciting place, especially if the max party size for the wilderness was raised to 12. (Summary: would be cool if the wilderness was created into a public PvP instance where parties of 1-12 players could go out and have a chance of ambushing or fighting other parties) This would be cool for challenges as well, such as a huge battle between two or more parties or even guilds, you might even be able to get into a guild party of 10-50 players and go out into a wilderness! T think that you would have to create a "Guild" tab along the "Private" and "Party" tabs for the entry panel.) This would be such a cool addition to the game!

Also, In addition to the brawling areas in the taverns, I was thinking there could be a reward system or a point system. For example, if a player kills another player, they win 100 platinum. it could go by level as well; level 1 kill for 100 plat, level 2 kill for 200 plat, etc. I would really like these additions and changes made to the game. As I have listened to many players say they wish PvP was larger in this game.

    Thoughts or opinions?

    No.

PVP is exactly right as it is. No tangible rewards, not exploitable for rewards, and totally ignorable by those who don't want anything to do with it.

Ignorable, except back in the days that PVP trash talk in the Lobster filled up everyone's general chat in the Harbor. Back then there were many threads asking for a separate chat zone for PVP so the rest of us could really totally ignore it.

Yep - I was one of the ones asking for the separate chat channels back in the day.
Thank goodness it's much quieter these days.

Honestly? Bad idea, needs some work.

Pvp in a game about working togerher, pvp never sat well, it had the tendacy to atract the worst and the toxic chat spilled over into the harbor chat until the des fixed that.

I have played a game where 98% of the game was open pvp and it was a terrible mess. People were constantly harrassed into pvp even when they weren't interested in pvp, whille the game was advertised as a 90% pve game with a huge pvp ballpit in the centre.
This game has a simular point system as yours, now imagine lv 6 triple racial, epic, heroic and iconic completionist fully decked out in the best gear lies in wait to gank every lv 1-2 toon that is trying to reach their quest? They wouldn't stand a chance.
Even when first life toons meet up the pvp arena, the battle is uneven, a toon build for pvp is far different from a pve orientated build.
It's the nature of the game, go try to pvp in pen and paper d&d and a lv 20 wizard will wrap reality around a lv 20 fighter.
It's something we inhereted from gygax and other developing nerds, they alsays foccused more on caster development then the melee side of things. I guess they were compensating for being bulied by the jocks in school, in d&d they now can be the smart guy that saves the world and gets the girl.....thus the uneven ballance in d&d and ddo.
Now, from a stand point of a newbie that got killed for the fifth time trying to reach his quest on korthos, why would he invest money in the game whrn he can't even reach lv 3?

Now there are other options, its called a pvp pit, they are all over in ddo, you just need to find willing people to join you.
And i think this is the crux of the problem, you have a lack of people who are willing to pvp (hence the point system).
Let me give you a hint, people that don't like pvp would do the bare minimum to get what they needed from the point system and abandon it asap, leaving you without aponents again.
Another problem with pvp is the maturity of its players, go watch a pvp battle and you'll see its all about kids and people with the mental maturity of children talking **** about each other, its a type of behaviour we could do realy without.

But here's some friendly advice, what about strictly pvp raids where12 players are pitted against 12 players who can posess monsters from the raid? (Like doom2016 or evolve). This might be a novilty that people will check out, for a while.

I guess my idea was shut down due to immaturity of kids...

I too see when people get upset for losing, and kids will definitely have a hard time when they get their bums wooped by a lvl 30 pro.

I am only thinking this for higher level people, and that wildernesses will only be slayer areas, not quest areas. This will give players more of a challenge in the wilderness and make the experience more on edge, just waiting for someone to pop out.

    Ideas?

I like pvp. We use to have nights where our guild would roll up in the lobster and do battle with each other and anybody else who was rolling in there. Friday nights in the lobster was robust with the sound of steel clashing and spells poppin. There were some great pvp players back then. Kind of sad to go in the lobster and here crickets.

Most people in ddo dont care for it but I'm with ya on making it viable and fun. Got some good ideas there. It actually could lend itself to be a very cool pvp game

    Default Battle Grounds

I did enjoy Wintergrasp when I played WoW, was the last thing that involved me slightly in the game. Would be cool to have some kind of battleground but as there are no factions would have to be some kind of random groupfinder thing. Don’t think it would be possible without a lot of work better spent on another expansion. If there was a capture the flag kind of thing I would play it however.

I enjoy pvp in games that are designed for from the start this isn’t and it never will work well. I really enjoyed the old days of SWG with the fights between Bestine and Anchorhead before the ruined that game with balancing and removing over half the classes. Never enjoyed pvp here classes aren’t good for it and some lose some of their abilities like stealth. Not knocking it or those who enjoy it but just do t see how it can be good without artificial balancing which isn’t a good idea.nor is pvp only rewards unless they are cosmetic only.

In my neck of the woods, the lobster pvp ball pit was one of the most toxic places i have ever seen in an mmo, a place where kids and people with the mental age of a kid shouted profanities non stop.
Think spamming every channel with the n word 18 hours straight.
We, the player base had to ban pvp players from parties due to their toxic nature, an entire pvp guild is blacklisted, we kept up with every name change and well over 3 years later, they seem to have abandoned the game. It must have been too hard to farm for raid gear when every raid leade denies you access and most of the raid capabele players avoid your lfms like the plague.

Yeah, this, ddo's class system isn't ballanced for pvp, the game engine doesn't support every play style equally either, being fast and rangedill a huge advantige.

I don't know what kind of D&D you play, but I've been playing since 1978 and have NEVER seen any Pvp in any game, module sold or campaign I've been in.

And to answer your original question: 'What if PvP was bigger in the game?' It would be ignored just like the current version is.
