OK so not at my current age and based more on the old D&D no tomes and other silliness.

    Strength-15 (Was actually an athlete)
    Intelligence-13 (University grad)
Dexterity-16 (Agility and Speed was more my thing not)
    Constitution-12
Charisma-9 (this was probably one thing that improved with age, leadership etc...)
Wisdom- 9 (alcohol probably had a major effect here!)

So I am thinking maybe I would make a fair fighter maybe rogue at a push (not int based).
    G-land
Main characters, Tymout, Tymkul, Tymbom, Tymantha etc...

Ha, me too! I was surprised to find the '8 base & add where you want to method' when I started here. Adding that I totally understand why it's done and don't disagree with this decision at all. My PnP career was sadly somewhat brief and ended during the first Reagan administration.

I would rate myself as follows:

Strength: 11 - Just slightly below average
Intelligence: 13 - Just slightly above average, my job requires me to be very logical
Wisdom: 10 - Only good thing is I know when I am wrong and willing to admit it.
Dexterity: 13 - I am good with my hands, I can juggle 5 balls (when I used to practice) and I do many hand/eye coordination work
Constitution: 11 - I am fit, but no more than the average Joe
Charisma: 8 - I am socially ********, and not a very forceful person in general.

How often you get sick probably isn't a very good measure of CON. Sure con is one element of fort saves, but even in D&D it's just one part. It's more hygiene habits and exposure IRL. Long distance running pace would probably be a better metric. An 16+ con should translate to at least a sub 3 hour marathon or similar high end endurance performance.

Strength: 10 (I've lost a couple of steps)
Dexterity: 10 (I'm a little bit agile when not in pain)
    Constitution: 6 (Yay chronic illness)
    Intelligence: 18 (I know a lot)
Wisdom: 18 (Life's been hard and I've learned a lot)
Charisma: 12 (Not the most sociable but people listen when I need to be forceful)

I'd probably be a chaotic good cleric.

Str 15, regular training and heavy lab samples keep me in shape.
Dex 14, uncanny reflexes and hard to hit
Con 20, incredible resistance against posion, drugs(alcahol, etc), narcotics and anesthetics, greatly resistant to physical illness.
Int, 14/15 learn skills fast, enormous amount of (often irrelevant) information.
Wisdom 6/7 hard time seeing through people or situations.
Charisma6/7 i have the social skills of a brick wall.

Improved evasion, i have dodged many deadly accidents over the years without a scratch.

Hide/move sillently must have been maxed out somewhere, i'm able to sneak up on people and animals(incl trained guard animals).

Handle animal, there hasn't been an animal that disliked me, wild or otherwise, been able to connect with domesticated and wild animals, from south afican elephants to south american birds to feral cats in south east asia. Can ride horses under stressfull situations.

Craft pc, knowledge science, alchemy, history, etc

Social skills, uhmmm down the drain? I couldn't convince or intimidate a burning person to jump into a pool next to him.

    Class
Saves and bab wise, i have 10 years of experience with high tier judo and karate followed by 15 years of championships in several japanese weapon based martial arts, so a mix of monk and samurai?

    Proficiencies
Unarmed, jo (1.28 meter stick employed to disarm katana users, used by law enforcement to this day), tanjo (a walking stick), naginata (a pole arm or sword on a staff), katana (a basterd sword), wakazashi( short sword), yumi (asymetrical bow, long and short, most likely shaped like that to be used on horseback or crouched down) and a bo(quarterstaff)
Proficient in light and medium armor and shields

So i guess a mix of monk and bushi( warior, since i have no particular bloodline like a samurai).

    Edit,

I've just shown this to the missus, who is now prepping the room for another pathfinder session and agrees with most of it exept the wisdom, i'm apperently a bit harsh on myself XD.

I suspect most of us would be challenged to carry around a 100 lbs of gear --> STR of 10-12...
For reference: With proper conditioning most of us can manage 60 to 80 lbs. You aren't running 10 second 100 yard dashes, but can be 'combat mobile'.

An m1919 browning is just over 31 lbs by itself. Not including ammo, and while the gunner always has two guys with him to carry extra ammo he still has one belt loaded and at least 1 extra on him.

Your current conditioning is baked into the score though. Obviously that's not modeled in D&D as you have the same score if you've spend the last six moths sitting around the royal court or working a marble quarry, but IRL scores will just change with conditioning.

I don't have a source book handy, but didn't at least the older editions include "max press" in the strength chart? That would be the most straightforward comparison for STR.

I dont remember a max press line in pounds, tho it did have a max carry weight, and bend bars/lift gates percentage. but i haven't looked at a players or dm manual in maybe 30 years so i could be wrong.

OK, I was curious enough that I went to the attic and dug up my old 2nd edition book:

Max press is indeed there. Lower numbers than I would have guessed though. Maybe a reflection on the rise in popularity of weightlifting in the last 30 years? I guess I have an 18 STR... Didn't do to well on the d100 roll though so I guess I'm not a warrior class

World record bench press (1,102 lbs) is just shy of cloud giant strength! Though no doubt those power lifters are on all kinds of PEDs, so it really is beyond stand "human max."

assuming "average" is 10, and assuming the int stat lines up roughly with IQ...

Str : 11 -- i am *slightly* stronger than i appear, and stronger than people expect me to be, but not enough such that i get any kind of bonus from it
Dex : 14 -- i'm not terribly graceful, but i have lightning fast reflexes. i once snatched a wild bird off a bird feeder with my bare hand
Con : 6 -- have asthma and weak ankles, and i get sick frequently.
    Int : 13 -- 135ish IQ.
Wis : 8 -- i have done, and still do, some incredibly stupid things due to lack of foresight. i'm working on it, but... well... yeah >.>
Cha : 15 -- i'm cheerful and get along great with people, and many people say i'm "cute". i work in customer service, and almost everyone loves me

class : bard! yes, as a matter of fact i DO love to sing and have a great voice ^_^ i'm also a tad chaotic. yay ADD!

A D&D character has to have a specific job just to learn lock picking, meanwhile I've taught people in real life how to pick locks in just a few days. Lock picking does not take lifetime dedication to learn and depending on who you are, you might even be a natural. Heck some of those whom I've taught outpicked me soon after I taught them. The kind of locks in the world of D&D aren't even as complex as what we have in this world. I don't think a level 1 D&D character is really all that exceptional due to such as well as the fact that a cleave attack really should deal more damage, I mean if I can cut a young tree down that is about three inches in diameter with a single well focused swing from a katana (Not an axe, but a freaking spring steel Katana I had custom made for me back when I had money), certainly the cleave attack from a character that is trained for such can do better (Especially when you consider that bone isn't that much different). As for monks..... using their fists still? Really? Hammer fist techniques are different but they should at least have moved onto iron palm techniques already. I must say though, regardless of outcome all first aid measure in DDO are beyond exceptional and though one could argue magic vs this world's technology, I feel DDO's magic is closer to on par now with that of our technology than it was before. I think currently the closest thing we have right now to that of bardsongs in real life are Binaural beats and those don't effect everyone equally let alone do they effect anyone exceptionally so bard songs win there. I have some trapping skills, but they are just novice really and pretty much require a setting in the woods so I can actually make said traps.

So, in real life I can essentially do the following

    Outcleave a level 15 fighter

    Outpick a maxed level rogue

Enhance my focus and energy levels using binaural beats (not as good as can be done in DDO)

First aid (not as good as can be done in DDO)

Build basic traps for catching and killing animals for food (not as good as can be done in DDO)

Use Iron palm techniques while maxed level monks are still stuck on fist attacks (Not even hammer fist ones)

D&D characters being exceptional is a hit and miss thing and the reality is that if actual martial artists and lock picks aided in the creation of the classes, you'd see such being even more exceptional.

20 weeks of Krav maga training with iron palm mastery and ongoing training in Wing Chun+The magic from the D&D world=A better monk

I'd argue that infusing a bit of realism into a fantasy setting should not improve the efficiency of a character like this, but in some cases it would.

It's more of a disparity between a 3d6 rolled character, a 28/32/34/36 pt build DDO toon and limited comparison to reality based on what can be inferred from stats in the game (e.g. carry weight, jump distances). If you want to move on to specific details like skills, feats and class-specific capabilities then we'll have a lot more cans of worms to open. In perspective there's no proper real life analogy of characters leveling up and class is more akin to learning specific skill sets through apprenticeship rather than a general skill set you can acquire from education or dabbling in topics by watching youtube videos.

Your example of open lock assumes that DnD locks will be simple by today's standards, that they'll be roughly pre-modern level of locksmithing, but there is no specific detail described in the design of a lock that makes it easy/difficult other than its DC to pick in an actual setting, i.e. nothing that indicates that it will be any less intricate than a modern lock. If you ask me modern locks are possibly "easier" to pick in the sense that they are mostly standardized cores and mechanisms that you can generally pick with an average tension wrench and pick.

Learning the open lock skill as a rogue would could roughly equate to learning techniques from a master rogue how to pick locks, or in fact any manner of locking mechanisms, and taking more levels to spend more points in OL to pick more intricate locks with less chance of failure. Assuming your tools and/or the lock don't break or jam in the progress you can take 10 or take 20 to open the lock still assuming they would be enough to overcome the lock, as would a real life picker spend more time setting the pins right on a difficult lock.

Do not forget on PnP rogues also have a much larger skill set than "Search, Disable, Open Lock and UMD", and making a living is often more than killing devils and looting. If you start factoring in abilities that are otherwise magical or supernatural then the balance falls apart even further. In the end I think it's just that different people have interpreted your initial question differently, whether they answered what they would look like in stats as a "realistic" comparison, or what they would have looked like as a lv1 DDO toon with or without 36 point builds and/or tomes (which is already no where near a 3d6 rolled toon in general). Any further than that, well, I'd rather not interpret.
