    Default Cleric Tank revisited 15cl/4pal/1wiz

    Just wanted to revisit this split with some updated gear and enhancements to see how viable it would be. I'm a big fan of self sufficient tanks, big fan of pugging raids, not so much a fan of healbot babysitters. Clearly this is not a high reaper build as the hp just simply doesn't support that as geared. However with a focus on raid tanking up to R1-R2, maybe a little higher, this split will really outshine most other tanks. Can speed run through Killing Time if you replace that standard tank/healbot setup with just...well...tank! Healbot can then play their DPS characters.

    Build is based around the architecture found in https://www.ddo.com/forums/showthrea...Legendary-Tank Now I don't know if Vanhooger started all of it or if he was the first to post it. Doesn't matter - when I came back to the game a little over a year ago I stumbled across his tank thread and watched the videos which in turn made me want to do something similar ever since. Oh, and a side note here, I had a whopping 4 heroic past lives when I came back to the game so none of that whiny "new players have it soooooo hard gib gib gib gib boo hoo" nonsense.

    • wis 17 (doesn't need to be super high, starting with 10 or so could get a little more dex for ac/reflex)

    Sorry for the trash formatting but I generally only write out builds for personal/guild use and copy/paste for convenience.

    So I needed a cleric past life on my main for heroic completionist and thought what the hell, I'll build and run this for a little while since we're forever waiting on a tank to join raids or running lower difficulty with bad ones.

    As Kamthalion shows below the build split can be exceptionally good with the uber gear. In my week or so experience playing the toon in the screenshots I can say it's very effective. It can easily tank all of the raids up to R1 with zero issue and can do so while being self-sufficient. Strahd/Baba can be run much higher with ease. For me the big selling point besides the obvious solid tank stats and self-sufficiency is the beautiful party healing and utility. I've already solo tanked/healed a handful of reaper Strahd/Babas and saved a few other raids from horrid wipes. It's also a fantastic off-tank or emergency tank for Killing Time, which was my main intention, but is fully capable of solo tanking on R1 or even higher with a better gear setup.

    Yeah it's a surprisingly strong build with the current gear. I have the mats and runes to make a few LGS pieces but I just TR'd into my variation to pick up the cleric life as that was all I needed for heroic completionist. Just checked this thread to post some SS - assuming I can do so without screwing it up.

    Highly recommend the build split though as even on the lower end of past lives/gear it's very strong.

    No buffs, buffed outside of reaper, and standing unbuffed sp stats.


    Buffed in reaper, showing a aura crit with max Empyerean stacks outside of reaper.


    Dumped Falconry/Warpriest in favor of getting top tier in Aasimar (dumb not to do this in the first place)
    Standing intimidate was about 122
    Fully buffed positive spellpower was 925 with 52% crit chance
    240 heal amp

    Had a nice detailed update post but the forum threw it out, because quality.

    I was wondering if someone could explain to me why 1 wizard? I have been gone for a good number of years, so I am not current on the meta stuff. This seems like the best front line build that is not reliant on others healing.

    The Eldritch Knight "Improved Mage Armor" SLA gives +10% AC for 4 points, which is the main reason for the AC jump between the first and second character sheet images. The free metamagic feat doesn't hurt, either

    Awesome! Thanks. I thought that might be the reason, but I was not sure if it was enough of a reason to multiclass. Thought I might have been missing something.

    I’d think that the benefit a 10% increase in armor when your already over 350 AC would be minor. Especially considering that the loss of the Cleric or Pally level may have more added more value.
