    Default Storage advice

    Hi all,

Does anyone have some tips on how to store items on your account effectively?
I've now about 10 bank toons, all stocked with gear, consumables, xp stones, whatever that I might use someday.

I thought today I could make a new guild and use the guild chests, but those have a guild-level requirement, so that was not very succesful.

Just wondering if anyone has some other ideas that I might have missed ...

How are you storing your items?

PS: Ideally the devs will make some housing option, with several chests that allow 100ish items per chest to be stored. Account shared. But yeah, we have been wishing that for a while now I suppose.

Organising by loot slot can help, though you might need to combine with a planner when you're gearing out a character fully to help reduce swapping & side-by-side comparisons of multiple options. By level range can also work & lets you keep sets of items together, as can having bank alts sorted by broad playstyles, eg. ranged, caster etc.

Consumables I tend to keep in the shared bank so they're ready to be taken out by whatever character is going to need them.
I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was, now what's it is weird and scary to me.

I have a lot of bank toons and what I do is store items by level so that it is easier to find items when my mains TR or level up.

    So:

    Bob has items lvl 1-5
Sue has potions and odds and ends (portable holes etc.)
    Brian has items lvl 15-19
    Etc.

All of my banks are levelled to about lvl 4-7 to get some points and the two Coin lords favour rewards and one Kundarek extra bank slot.

For me storage is one of the biggest pains in the game, I left TESO when it became bag management the roleplaying game - DDO is getting there.

Why support [expletive] storage options in the game with real money.
if they are not prepared to give us decent storage options then why spend money on the inferior options.

    Instead..

    Alt mule accounts -
Free to create and you can make as many as you need to distribute any unbound items.
Opens up options to multibox them to farm items, that can be passed to your main in the chest.
drag them along in favor content for extra backpack, bank space.
Dont need to Invest anything into them unless you want to.
Drag them into flagging content to use them as openers for future TR lives on your main.

Not an ideal solution, but does allow you to move non-bound items off the main account to allow for more bound items.

XP stones, other than some high gold rolls just are not worth storage space. The shared crafting storage space is a good value and you can craft right out of shared storage. of course, I have about 25 bank toons.

EDIT: I also suggest you use iconics for bank toons and do a coin lords favor run for the extra 20 slots.

I second this suggestion. My consumables are in the shared bank (I've bought all of the available space) as well as things that are hard to categorize and things that are useful to a wide variety of builds (for instance Ring of the Ancestors when I'm not using it).

For the rest of my stuff:

All of my unbound cosmetics are in one of my character's inventory and bank.

All two-handed weapons are in another one's inventory and bank.

    etc.

I have a spreadsheet in Google docs that keeps track of who has what item, it's minimum level, it's mythic bonus, and it's reaper bonus.

I have been asking for an API to export inventory data.

That's your problem. The standard isnt "what I might use someday", its "what I will use in the near future".

Dont be afraid to throw something away even if it might be useful, unless you actually intend to use it and know how you're going to use it. I try to only keep gear that I know will fit into a BIS gearset for a build I intend to run. Even if an item is good, if you know you'd just use something else instead regardless, then its still worthless. Likewise it doesnt matter if something is rare, if its not actually worth using. You're not curating a museum (unless that's your meta-game).

Also, use your consumables, they dont do any good unless you do and there's rarely a time its actually "worth it" anyway...and toss out your 100XP stones if you need the room.

You always consider the cost of a storage spot against the cost of the alternative...if you end up needing one, how much will it take to grind out a new one? Is it worth the storage spot just to prevent the small chance of having to do that? Or for XP stones, is it worth 10 spots of 100XP stones just to keep you from having to maybe run one more 1000 XP quest at low level?

    Thanks all for the tips!

But yes, I do delete a lot of stuff.
I do have a few bank toons, probably about 5 now that hold all sort of items, like tomes, exp stones (read; 2k or higher, not all the silver roll ones), and a lot of gear for end-game builds (Ravenloft, sharn, fey now as well, etc etc).
I do play a lot of alts, and occasionally change builds and then I use some items from my bank. I am not following some sort of plan, so I don't really know what I might need in a few months :P

For me personally, if I had some sort of personal banking area with 500 slots, I would be fine.

It always seems like it would be, but... It's like after stack sizes were increased (both here and Hobbit-side) where we suddenly had a bunch of new open storage spaces...

    *dramatic pause*

...which we then filled back up with MOAR stuffs!

Its too late for most people who have already created and stocked their mules, but the character list is sorted alphabetically so starting their names with a z puts them at the back of the list in a group as opposed to scattered among real characters. Another trick is to make them iconics of a build you can use to solo kundarak and coin lords, to go from 4 free tabs per mule to 8 free tabs, not hard for a 15 to solo some low level missions on elite.

DDO needs to have a “purge” weekend. All of us hoarders get to drop items in the marketplace. Theses items can then be picked up by anyone. Maybe give us an astral shard for each item we get rid of. We might be able to help gear some newer players.

Ive purchanced item and crafting storage when on sale. get most if not all of the reward storage from the game favor for each toon.
I think ive even got a few extra backpack storage slots from bank as well on a few toons 1 or 2.
I use an officers chest to store craftables with augment slots in them.
