Is it just me or do some of the original races need an update to compete with the most recent additions? Of course that may be a business decision to encourage spending.

I much prefer games that treat Race as a purely cosmetic option.
Asimar became the best race for someone like me, by a gigantic margin, when the developers gave them really good self healing. That one ability makes DDO so much easier and more fun to play.

I look at each race tree and choose one that synergies with my build. That being said the Aasimar tree is very powerful out of the box due to the flexibility it was given. Human and PDK and half elf are the only other trees that offer enough to come close. Dwarf is good for certain tank builds. The rest feel lackluster by comparison.
I still cant figure out what exactly is wood elf meant for, doesn't seem to fit any niche...
I can't figure out why you can't figure it out...
WE is a +Dex build that doesn't have a -Con penalty. So most anything that an Elf fits, WE is a more robust version. In exchange, no Dragonmark.
And Drow are great for newer players who do not yet have 32 point builds. Especially for multiple-attribute builds (Pali's come to mind), they outshine most other races for "28 point" builds. Once you have 32 point builds, the attraction can wane some. But even then, they were the only +Cha race for a long time, and still are solid for most any +Cha build. And are free.
that gnomes have a similar boost to a weapon type as do drow and elves BUT unlike the latter, the gnomish weapon training at its top tier is much greater (more damage & crit threat). That is not game changing; it just makes for some flavor builds. If drow could make short swords 15-20 and elves make long swords 15-20, that might open up some other flavor builds too. Not game-changing power creep either.

Dwarves could use an update, throw your weight atound is all the way in the top of the tree but lacks the to hit portion.
Its no use to have co to damage if you can't hit the broadside of a barn.
Aka expencive and useless.
Horcs shouldn't be forced to use lockpicks whenbashinga lock, just up the dc by 5( to compensate for the lack of locks picks) and remove the requirement.
