You are right, I should not blame the community. The community has came to the defense of many builds in the past, some that I enjoyed playing. That does not excuse the community for the vitriol that it wielded against Paladins.
Paladin requires a lot of stats so its best to prioritize STR (14-16), CON (14-16), CHA (14-16), and INT (10-14) with WIS and DEX as dump stats spending all levelling points in STR. Then you'll want the best tomes you can get.

The problem is that people splash paladin way too much, and little work has been done to make taking several level of paladin viable unless you go 18-20 paladin levels. I also think that enhancement tiers higher than 2 should require more class levels. Some how the level requirements of the higher enhancement tiers lowered thus making splashing the best way to build instead of pure classing being the most attractive way to play.

I imagine the only people who use Olladra, Onatar, or Aureon have strange multiclass builds. The Silver Flame is completely broken for Paladins as they can't fully utilize their Favored Weapon nor can they get a decent DC out of the level 6 feat.
As you could see from my screenshot above; I used Olladra in a pure paladin build. It's essentially the same as going sov host except that the heal is auto-self targeted, and that it grants +all stats instead of removing negative conditions. I feel like this is better suited for a paladin then sov host if you're a selfish *** like me.

Considering how relatively useless I consider using the weapon granted by deities (and deity bonuses in general); I wouldn't be surprised if Aureon is used very effectively in a 18pal/2 cleric split just for the active turn undead bonus.

Onatar’s pretty screwy as a deity; it gives repair amp but excludes bladeforged from taking it. I can still see warforged using it; or even anyone else just for having a +10 melee power clickie with a good duration and ignoring the rest of the benefits.

Silver Flame sucks big ones. Even if I was making a longbow-forcused paladin (which I’ve considered) I wouldn’t take it because +1 to hit is negligible and the active is a slow-cast tiny damage ability which only works on a small subset of enemies. You’d practically make your character stronger by not taking it at level 6. (Source: I tested it on an archer cleric. At level cap I was doing about 10 damage per tick with it).
