Conversation skills already show their DC values in the text, allowing the talker to change equipment or abandon the conversation before blowing their chance, while trap boxes (which require an investment into Search to detect) do not give information to the trapper about their DC, therefore risking it to be blown by an inadequately prepared trapper.
Since DDO hasn't implemented the Take 10 or Take 20 rule, a proper examination of a trap should be rewarded with such important information. I imagine an appearing "Control Box (DC:26)" or similar text on those panels...
Example #1
- Hi, can I have a mug of beer?
- Sorry, but you don't seem to be an adult to me...
*I examine the bartender, and believe him to be susceptible for my persuasion if I slip my Diplomacy +10 ring on before continuing...*
- Aww, please, sir, I just became 18 yesterday, and my friends keep teasing me about my childish appearance, look, they're at that table now, watching me as I order my very first beer, come on man, don't let me down in front of them bla bla bla
(Diplomacy success)
- All right, all right, just take it and go!...
Example #2
- Hold on guys, I sense some danger here!
*I start searching*
...
- So, what have you found?
- Well, as you can see, these holes in the wall are little tubes, and there's a thin layer of smoke on their inner side, so I am confident that this is a flamethrower trap that will activate if we cross these floor panels here. But I found the wires and I can now attempt to disable it.
- Attempt? Can you do it or not? We want to cross this corridor without getting burned!
- Well, I am not sure if my equipment is good enough, but let me give it a try...
- Wait! Maybe if we...
(BOOM, the badly handled control wires blow the whole system up)
- Umm... sorry guys..
- Ouch!! You are FIRED!
