Default Time we add ropes to the game

    Not the belt.

Climbing rope, Entanglement rope, Web rope.

eg: dwarf cleric with no feather fall, can't make the jump? No worries, just get out your Rope of Climbing.

eg: Druid/ Ranger spell, cast the entanglement rope around one creature.

eg: Druid/ Ranger spell, cast Rope of Web around multiple targets.

I come up with the ideas, you math people apply the numbers.

Are you that keen to add a rope bug to the ladder bug?

Seriously, this is completely unnecessary. FF is so ubiquitous that I can't imagine any character not having it. If you don't and nobody has a spell, well there has to be some penalty for not being prepared.

There already is an entanglement spell for druids and rangers.

There already is a web spell for arcane casters. And entangle already is an AOE spell.

A Rope to help people who can't make the jump is a nice thought, but the necessary time for the coding might not be worth the result.

Maybe a consumable only bought in the DDO Store??? (As an incentive to make it worth that time investment)?

There is a rope in the game, Slave Lord Series the 3rd Quest. Really you should give it a tug

It would make a nice feature for those moments when someone in the party lacks a sufficiently high Jump score. On the other hand, a rope and grapple would trivialize many quest obstacles and very probably create tons of exploit situations.

I doubt the developers will bother but if they did, perhaps a compromise would allow characters to set ropes that hang down from a position. This would require at least one character to get to the grapple hold position. From that position the rope would hang down in some fashion, allowing the rest of the party to easily access the spot reached by the first character.

The lack of creative thinking in the replies here is funny. It's a fraking game. Loosen the strap on your safety helmet a little, lighten up.

You are not the first person to make this suggestion and in previous discussions, it became clear coding for climbing ropes would involve some serious work. Without access to the game program itself, the kind of people who find elegant solutions to geometry problems cannot even make the attempt. All we can really do, as players, is make the suggestion and hope the developers will find that elegant solution and the time to implement it.

Climbing ropes also open up the very real problem of drastically increasing the number of 'perch spots' in the game. Any vertical plane large enough to hold a character would potentially become a 'perch', allowing ranged characters to trivialize even more combat situations than currently possible. The answer is not terribly lovely. I would love to throw grapples everywhere to outwit enemies. However, any real discussion of a system needs to also take into account the overall impact on the game.

I did not weigh in on entangling enemies with ropes because the Snare spell (I think it is Snare) already accomplishes that. Giving that ability to other classes, via some kind of weighted line, would be neat. Maybe the developers could repurpose the Shadar-kai spiked chain animation and, upon a hit, have it trigger the Snare(?) spell animation. It appears the Mimic goo animation was repurposed from the Snare(?) spell animation so there is precedence.

Your last sub-suggestion seems like an attempt to bring nets into the game. That has also been suggested before. It would be neat. Perhaps the spinning blade animation from Against the Demon Queen (raid) could be repurposed as a thrown, spinning, round, weighted net. If it hits one or more targets, they become entangled using the Snare(?) spell animation.

Perhaps whips, weighted ropes, and nets for snaring opponents could all form the basis of a new Tactics Tree. Rather than limit it to Rangers, allow any character with sufficient Dexterity and Strength to use it. This could provide melee classes with some much needed crowd control abilities at levels below L29 at the cost of Trait Points lost to other things, especially offensive abilities.

I only referenced the published material from D&D wiki.

It's a fantasy game, there really are no rules, or we wouldn't see warforged in Faerun
