    Default Update 40 Preview 1: Raid Loot Feedback Thread

    This thread is for feedback on both the new raid loot coming with Update 40. For full release notes on this Preview push please look here.

    Theme: Time Travel! These are alternate timeline versions of raid and quest items you know and love. They'll be similar in theme and different in slot, or similar in slot and different in theme. You'll understand what I mean when you start looking at them.

    Power Levels: These are all Raid level items! They are minimum level 29. They'll match the numbers of The Curse of Strahd and Baba Lysaga. All Crit Profiles are standard, or Standard + keen, with the exception of The Staff of Shadows.

    You can find all of these items on the "Loot Guy" in the Test Dojo on Lamannia. Note: some of these differ slightly from what you will see on Lamannia as a couple last minute tweaks have been made to design that did not make it into this preview. When in doubt, what is listed in this thread is the intended item. Please make note of any differences in case they are bugs that we are unaware of (which is always possible).

    The Reflection of Blackrazor Greatsword
    Damage Dice: 7[2d6+6] (+2W from Keen)
    • Soul Devouring: On hit, applies a stack of Soul Scar - Reduces AC, Fortification, and Will Saves by 1, stacks 20 times. On hit, Blackrazor can attempt to devour the Soul of a non-boss monster (DC 100 Phantasmal Killer vs Will negates, no effect vs mobs at 5,000 or more HP). When you kill a target, this adds a stack of Devoured Soul to you, max 20, which provides a profane bonus of 1 to Damage and Melee power per stack. On Block or unequip, consumed souls are released. Souls last for 20 seconds.

    • The Loot guy in the Test Dojo will sell you any of these items for platinum, but also has a copy of the "Raid Rune Turn In" barter box. In Preview 1 there is currently no way to gain the "Time Runes" required to trade in for the items using that barter box. Simply use the shop instead.
    • Character Copies to Lamannia are not available for Preview 1.

    Clouded dreams. Mind Mind Drain (-5% Max Spell Points) and -4 Will Saves? LOL. The item does not even have more slots than normal. Why do you create an item that is pure sentient food for a raid? Even without the penalties, the ring would rarely be used, since it competes with the team of slavers and the nightmother scepter

    Does Wave lose fom?

    I guess you forgot to write the staff of shadows stats.

    The clouded dreams also gives +10% exceptional spell lore. 10% stacking lore is a lot. Sorcerers would love this one.


    I wonder if anthem augments count for the Elyd Charm, though.

    The bolded part of Soul Devouring's description seems redundant. The first sentence says it gives you a Devoured Soul on kill and describes the effect. The second sentence says you also get a Soul on kill. Are a Soul and Devoured Soul the same thing? If not, what does a Soul do? If so, is the second sentence supposed to give a second way to get a (Devoured) Soul?

    Please consider changing Insightful Devotion to Insightful Charisma.

    While Devotion is useful to Bards, it's not nearly as useful as Charisma. The item looked pretty cool until I saw that. If you want bards to replace their Bells of Warding, the current version isn't going to do it.

    Yay; finally a quarterstaff and longbow which look like they should be about to outperform ToEE on paper. Even though the ToEE ones still critical better; base damage dice are a thing; and the math would have to be run to see when ToEE becomes better then these options. (Better base critical profiles will always be better weapons at some number of bonus damage; the question is if it is reasonable or even possible to achieve that in game).

    The handaxe also has me considering replacing the legendary forgotten axe in a couple of builds that I'm theorycrafting as viable melees; although it's lacking the critical profile and critical damage of the forgotten axe; the base die and weapon procs might just make up for it.

    The heavy mace and sickle I doubt are good enough to make those weapon types worth using.

    It's nice to finally get an insightful wisdom item that's not restricting your armor type; although unfortunately it's in the same slot as the hands of the dawn healer; so clerics and wisdom fvs are still sad.

    I'm glad you're making a raid-level blackrazor, although the longsword looks like it would under perform. (Longswords are pretty much second-class khopeshes after all).

    I can see sphere of wave being pretty powerful on some types of casters.
    I know someone who's probably unimpressed that it's not a melee orb

    Seems to be a lot of items that penalize characters for being lawful; I might be forced into some chaotic tendancies soon.

    I can see the reflection of frostblade become the new fotm in some higher reaper circles.

    This almost made me cry, after seeing all the cool effects on other items..

    But then again, i will probably wont try to play more bow builds for a while...

    Angdrelve is a particular greatsword you've seen someone else. Likewise, the Frostblade is already somewhere, it just happens to be in somewhere you may not remember

    Oh man, and I thought it was perhaps lost in just the post. So it's really just...that? Everything else has the same number of augment slots and similar dice AND several cool effects. Please tell me this isn't correct. Throw us staff wielders a bone.

    I realize it has a base crit multiplier, but I'm not understanding why it's the only thing it has, in comparison to the other weapons.I mean, a base crit multiplier is nice and all, but on a base 20 only crit weapon, it won't balance out the lack of effects. Plus, no effects is...boring. I think in comparison to the other weapons you listed, the staff is lacking in power.

    That said (and in conjunction) I like a lot of the other loot. That's why I'm sad about the staff. Can it be revisited?

    Edit: Okay, it clicked in finally where you were trying to go with this. Staff of Shadow=Sword of Shadow. Adamantine, extra base crit multiplier, some augment slots. I think you missed the mark a bit, though, and here's why:

    1. The Sword of Shadow has an expanded crit range as well, which is why the extra multiplier is a big deal. On a 20 only crit...meh. And sure, we all expand the crit ranges, but that also goes for the eSoS. So it's not a good comparison.

    2. Pretty much no one uses the eSoS at end game. It's still an amazing weapon, but it doesn't compare to other THF weapons that are available at end game. Same goes for the staff - it doesn't hold up against the other stuff available.

    I would suggest the following:

    1. Expand the crit range

    2. Give it at least ONE cool effect, OR give it another augment slot

    I suspect that will bring it more in line with end game weapons, while still sticking to the feel of what you were going for.

    (I still want a staff that's full of cool effects, though. Next time?)
