    Adding my own loot list. Playstyle is no solo play, grouping with Pally, Warlock, Barb friend. End game raid healing. Low to mid Reaper. Only Sorc PLs.

    Eye:Legendary Collective Sight {insight Wisdom 10}{enhancement Wisdom 21}
    Head:Legendary Hardened Hide
    Neck:Legendary Conduit of the Soul
    Trinket:Legendary Five Rings{Sheltering, Resistance or Force Spell Lore, Heal or UMD skill, quality PRR}
    Body:Legendary Blessed Vestments
    Back:Legendary Hallowed Trail
    Wrist:Legendary Hallowed Castigators
    Waist:Legendary Black Satin Waist {quality Wisdom 5}
    Finger1:The Legendary Shattered Onyx {your choice, insight Intelligence 10 or insight Dexterity 10, low priority}
    Feet:Legendary Sunken Slippers {your choice, quality Intelligence 5 or quality Dexterity 5, low priority}
    Hand:Gauntlet of the Iron Council
    Finger2:Legendary Celestial Sapphire Ring {your choice, enhancement Dexterity 21 or enhancement Intelligence 21}
    Weapon:Nightmother's Sceptre
    Offhand:Legendary Resplendant Fury {insight Constitution 10} or Legendary Giant's Platter

    Notes: Body, Back, Bracers, Waist, Neck, Main Weapon, Offhand are basically locked in and should be the same in any FVS set IMO. Goggles can be Collective Sight or Dusk Lenses. I passed on WIS artifact bracers so went Collective Sight path instead. But I also don't run Maximize/Empower since I'm not a damage dealer in my group. Boots, Trinket, Head, Gloves are flexible.

    OK I must be missing something regarding the CHA build. Your starting DEX is 6 and I'm not seeing any boosts to reflex saves. How would this build not be dying in every trap?

    It's a very fair point especially for a newer player or someone without much grind capital built up. for a typical vet a starting dex of 6 is no problem. The difference between 6 and 14 is 8 dex which translates to +4 to reflex saves.

    Here are a few examples of a how a player has grind benefits to reflex saves at low heroic levels that permits dumping dex.

    Past Lifes and Tomes
    Tome +2 Dex right at level 1
    Heroic Completionist: +2 Dex
    Racial Completionist: +2 Dex
    2nd Elf Past Life: +1 Dex
    2nd Halfling Past Life: +1 Dex
    Rogue Past Life x3: +6 reflex save vs traps
    Brace x 3 (divine epic past life): +3 to all saves
    Tiefling Scoundrel x 3: +3 to reflex saves

    Reaper Tree (Starting at level 4)
    Tier 1 Reaper Reflex Saves : +3

    Ship Buffs
    Dex +2 (paradoxical puzzle box)
    Reflex Saves +1 (Chronoscope)

    Stone of Change Ritual
    Resistance Ritual: +1 to saves

    A person doesn't need all of these to dump dexterity, but obviously the more the better. Obviously at higher levels a single twist provides +6 reflex save which would otherwise require +12 dex.

    The person with 14 dex and none of the above-listed benefits has a reflex save modifier of +2. The vet with 6 dex and all of the above-listed benefits has a reflex save modifier of +14 and +20 vs traps. Life isn't fair.

    In my experience if you were to break down reflex saves into categories of (poor, mediocre, good, superior) The game play difference between poor and mediocre reflex saves doesn't amount to much. You'll still be missing almost all of your saves. It's a much better option to max your constitution so you'll have enough hp to survive the trap.

    That said you'll later want to throw on an augment to get your dex up a bit. Not for reflex saves but for stat damage. DDO is merciless when it comes to stats being reduced to 0. Lose 10 points due to a disease being cast on you and the difference between a dex of 11 or a dex of 10 is the difference of minor inconvenience and being rendered completely helpless.

    Well, in MY experience, the barbarian approach to trap finding (i.e. I'll find it with my face) doesn't tend to work out too well for barbarians, even though they have FAR more hit points than Favored Souls.

    There are traps in DDO that are powerful enough to take down a high hp barbarian. ( There are traps strong enough to take down a barbarian even if he makes the save for half damage) The trouble is though that these traps generally have a high enough DC that no character except high reflex save int or dex maxed character can make the save for it.

    Know where the traps are if possible. If in a group let the evasion or trap detector lead. React quickly if a trap goes off so you don't get hit multiple times. ( sometimes if you're quick enough you can avoid getting hit at all ) Timing traps so you get past them. DDO has very few quests with unavoidable high damage low DC traps.

I wanted to show 2 builds here - the first is a fairly maxed out Wisdom build for high reaper, but the build can easily be modified if you don't have all the past lifes. The second is a blasting high DC Charisma build designed for low to mid skull which tries to strike a balance between DC and DPS.

    Both builds are casual and new player friendly (even though the wisdom build shows a maxed out character) as the 300 hp from the level 7 Stout of Heart feat and the 5% hp bonus from falconry provide a significant boost to hp. Aasimar offers the additional 10% hp boost and both Aasimar and Dragonborn provide healing amp.

    Dragonborn provides an option for +3 evocation which replaces the need to twist it in and removing the need to spell focus evocation at all as long as you are in exalted angel. You can actually have a higher evocation DC as a charisma Dragonborn caster, but that is not the goal of the Charisma build I am presenting. I am trying to have a high DC and better DPS than the wisdom version as it's intended as a solo/short man low to mid skull build.

    Comparison to Cleric DC Casting
    In all honesty, I would only ever choose Cleric over favored soul for the special purpose of specializing as a necro cleric for the extra destruction SLA. Although I am likely to choose Wizard or Warlock over either if I want to specialize in necro. The higher light spellpower from the elemental clerics is certainly an advantage in boss fights, but that's not a strength of either build. The +3 DC in the fvs cores and +1 stat benefit over cleric is key because it means favored soul will always have better DC in secondary schools and that is key to me as the game stands today.

    Wisdom Vs. Charisma - No Right Answer Only Many Opinions
    Implosion and Mass Frog are some of the most versatile spells in the game today because they kill things that can't be killed with standard necromancy. For this reason I prefer Wisdom over Charisma, but I think Charisma excels at soloing lower skulls due to the DPS advantage. Overall I find gear to be more synergistic with a Wisdom build if I spend a feat on heavy armor proficiency giving up 4 spell pen, but there are many solid gearing possibilities for either.

    One direction change I am considering for the charisma build is going with the 5 piece ender set rather than 5 piece slavers. Unfortunately this would result in a trade off of being more effective in low/mid skull and less effective for high skull, but in my mind the charisma caster either goes all out for dc for high reaper or specializes in lower skulls. The problem with charisma spec'ing for high reaper is that it will ALWAYS be weaker in high skulls due to the lack of or less effective mass frog.

    I tended to weight heal amp higher on the wisdom build since it's intended for high reaper and fortunately heal amp lined up better for a wisdom build as well.
    My question is: is WIS build still a good option? Any advice? Ty

    I haven't updated the build in a long time.

    It really depends on what your goals are. The issue you will run into as a favored soul is that groups will have expectations and those expectations will vary from group to group.

    At a minimum for raids you will need to spec beacon of hope as your main tree for healing wall. This is relatively straight-forward and virtually every raid group will have this expectation. If you hate constantly respec'ing you may want to just keep beacon of hope as your main enhancement tree all the time which costs you 4 DC and 6 caster levels for spells, but gives you the "healer first" spec that is expected in raids.

    For reaper runs expectations will be very different from group to group and some people have very rigid expectations of how a favored soul is spec'd. This is the most frustrating aspect of playing favored soul or cleric is varying and at times non-sensical expectations of how a favored soul should be spec'd.

    At the time I posted these builds my opinion is that aasimar wisdom-based favored soul was the better choice - in part because of gear, but also because mass frog is so good. There have been many changes since then and both wisdom and charisma builds are highly compelling.

    From a flexibility standpoint Dragonborn charisma gives you the most flexibility and the highest DC potential. A charisma-based favored soul has the flexibility to swap between exalted angel, draconic incarnation and magister with magister having a significantly higher DC potential. Since expectations are different between raids and reaper runs and expectations very from group to group i think Charisma gives you the maximum ability to respec quickly and also to try out different builds. Draconic incarnation and magister support charisma but not wisdom so these only work well with a charisma build.

    I apologize for not answering directly - there is so much nuance involved with playing favored soul.

    An aasimar wisdom-based favored soul will certainly be solid, but so will a dragonborn charisma favored soul and it will give you so much more versatility. Currently I would play a dragonborn charisma favored soul, but if you already re-rolled to aasimar wisdom-based I think you will do just fine.

    In terms of gear I would look at a legendary flamecleansed fury set with a 4 piece winter set. 11 points for greater color spray is a very compelling cc option and gives you a will-save option to go with soundburst which is a fort-save option.

    Tiefling for charisma favored soul is also a great choice for the extra crit. So if you want to switch to DPS mode one option is draconic incarnation so both the fire immunity bypass and extra crits are great. Just having energy burst twisted in - in either exalted angel or divine crusader is also very helpful.

    Angel of Vengeance gives 6 caster levels to fire, force, light and physical spells. So you can raid with Beacon of Hope for your main raiding tree and situationally switch to Angel of Vengeance if you want to go with more DPS. I am not sure whether Tiefling crit chance or Dragonborn caster levels /DC helps more with DPS, but the ability to bypass fire immunity is probably enough to tilt DPS in tiefling's favor.

    On a side note, the caster level bonuses from angel of vengeance and dragonborn give implosion one of the highest spell penetrations of any death spell in the game. Implosion does untyped damage and untyped damage is considered physical so a dragonborn in angel of vengeance gains +9 and a tiefling gains +6. I don't think implosion spell penetration is really a deciding factor - just an interesting sidebar.

    I am doing the Dragonborn version right now...it seems really solid for now!

    Default Working so far on a first life @ lvl 10

    I am running the WIS-based Aasimar version of this (first life, 28-point starting build), running with a group on Hard/Elite (not reaper). No named items or crafting yet, just working off of found loot/auction house. Just hit lvl 10, w/ role being offensive caster with supplemental healing. Max./Empower/Heightened/Quicken SLA Sunbolts are boss-killers, often in one shot. My spell choices are limited for AOE and CC, but just picked up Flame Strike, so we'll see how that helps.

    Seeking advice from OP, if you would: I'm about to get my Ravenloft weapon. Playing to my strengths tells me to get the Barovian Scepter and just get spellpower boosts all-around, which has been my gamelan so far. But wondering if I should start investing more in boosting DC and spell pen for mid to higher-level heroics, and get the macabre scepter. Ideally, would be great to dual-wield one of each, but not necessarily interested in farming for the other that I don't pick. Any advice on which scepter to choose at this point? Thanks!

    Default 30!

    Reached lvl 30, I've updated my gear (it was from u37...). Now i have Flamecleansed and 4 piece winter set...really awesome, I need to work on my filigrees. But for now i can reach nice numbers and nice versatility. For raids i swap to Beacon of hope for healing walls. Great build, great toon

Thanks!
    You may run into DC issues in sharn, but I think you are making the right choice - by the time you get to sharn the sceptre will start to get a little out-dated.

    I haven't updated the post yet, but here is what I am running. I've gone a bit more defensive primarily because gearing tetris made it the most optimal choice given my options (at least in my opinion).

    Goggles: Legendary Collective Sight (Wisdom 21, Ins Dex 10, Quality Resistance 4, Temperance of Belief (+1 MRR bonus for each religious feat)
    Helmet: Legendary Crown of Snow (Fire Shield (Cold), Paragon Cerulean Wave, Spell Focus Mastery 7, Insightful Spell Focus Mastery 5)
    Necklace: Pendant of Bottled Moonlight (Overwhelming Despair, Enchanting Death, Spell Penetration 9, Insightful Spell Penetration 5)
    Trinket: Slavelord Crafted (Sheltering 45, Resistance 14, Heal 22, Quality Wisdom 4) - wisdom is there so I can swap belts as needed without giving up as much dc
    Cloak: Legendary Hallowed Trail (Radiance 214, Radiance Lore 31, Evocation Focus 9, Quality Spell Pen 3)
    Belt: Legendary Black Satin Waist (Quality Wisdom, Spell Pen 9, Quality Spell Focus Mastery 2, Spell Resistance 47)
    Ring 1: Legendary Ring of Winter's Chill (Ice Lore 31, Glaciation 214, Kinetic Lore 31, Impulse 214)
    Gloves: The Prince's Gauntlet (Healing Amp 93, Constitution 22, Quality Resistance 4, Quality Sheltering 15)
    Boots: Legendary Deepsnow Boots (Insightful Con 10, Quality Con 5, Freedom of Movement, Fort Save 17)
    Ring 2: Legendary Shattered Onyx (Insightful Wisdom 10, Profane Spell Focus Mastery 2, Insightful Resistance 8, Insightful Dodge 10)
    Bracers: Legendary Hallowed Castigators (Devotion 214, Healing Lore 31, Insightful Sheltering 27)
    Armor: Legendary Blessed Vestements (Fortification 214, Physical Sheltering 54, Comp Healing Amp 85, False Life 81)

    Main Hand: Legendary Queen's Sceptre (Potency 154, Insightful Potency 77, Spellsight 22, Insgihtful Spellsight 11)
    Off-Hand: Legendary Alchemical Tower Shield (MRR 55, Alchemical Wisdom +2, Necromancy Focus 9) - Requires using master's touch scroll for proficiency

    Swaps: Legendary Silverthread Belt, LGS Debuffers and triple positive

    As far as max dc with this gear I am short 1 wisdom from a 22 wisdom artifact and 2 DC from gloryborne gloves, but I think it's worth the trade-off of gaining 40 PRR and MRR, 20% hp, etc. For someone that doesn't have access to the alchemical Tower Shield - any high level tower shield will work for defensive purposes.

    There are other options such as using gilded gloves of sanctity and heart of the prince for orb, but that really hurts defense for 2 spell pen and 1 wisdom. It also limits what you can do with off-hand weapons.

    The pendant of bottled moonlight applies a crushing despair to enemies when you cast a necromancy spell. I am not positive whether it's applied before or after the necromancy spell lands - it's hard to tell because the enemy dies right away when it works. This effectively increases DC by 2 if it lands before the death spell hits. It also makes debuffing an enemy with energy drain more effective as the debuff is applied without a save.

    Here is current wisdom/dc potential with this gear assuming evocation focus:

    Note: When Aureon's Instruction is active posted DCs are at a +2 due to the +4 Wisdom bonus granted

    When I finally get around to updating this build you will see the charisma DC caster has a much higher DC due to magister and dragonborn. I will also be adding a 3rd build to the mix which is a solo-friendly tiefling in draconic incarnation that will have lower DCs, but higher DPS and the ability to bypass fire immunity.
