An idea I can only agree with, and I'm even one who suggested this already several times by myself.
Instead of having a super small chance to get a superior item, you have many achievable small steps towards your dream item.
This is, in my opinion, the right way because with each small step you get something useful and that is some kind of fun each time.
If you get all at once you have only fun one time and this fun moment is limited, so to speak.
And you have less frustrating moments where you get nothing if you try only for a super small chance to get something.
It is surely more work but in my opinion just better game design.

No to the standard vampirism, blackrazor deserves a new form of vampirism.........

Here's the version I came up with for vampirism......

*Scales up with healing amplification, repair amplification, or negative healing amplification depending on which is beneficial to the player for healing but has a set cap for what the max healing through said healing amplification can be.

*Healing amplification effectiveness declines after attack speed reaches a certain threshold meaning you can not cheat the system and get more heals from increasing your attack speed.

*Possible heals per hit are measured by the 10 second period, if you exceed the possible heals permitted within a 10 second period, you will have a few hits not proc the vampirism effect until it evens out and resets.

*This form of vampirism is base 1d6 for the legendary version and base 1d3 for the heroic version.

*This form of vampirism begins at EVERY hit in melee made with said weapon.

Alternatively, you could place this form of vampirism on a sentient filigree intended for Blackrazor and instead make Blackrazor's other unique effect match the one on this fan made version!

    Echo of Blackrazor Bastard Sword
    [I]Minimum Level: 29
    Damage Dice: 5[1d10+3]
    Critical Profile:18-20/x2
    • BlackRazor's Hunger: On vorpal hit you drain 1d6 levels from the enemy hit and gain plus 1 Melee power and plus 1% increased speed bonus to attack and running (stacks with all other sources of attack speed and running speed), this can retain a stable stack of up to 30 charges and upon reaching 31 charges it is dispersed and you are healed by 1d2 per character level, and benefit from the effects of the Lesser Restoration spell.
    • Improved Cursespewing
    • Nightmares
    • Psychic Ward This item wards you against mind-altering effects and spells, such as Charm and Domination.
    • Orange Augment Slot
    • Red Augment Slot

but who are we kidding.. if its not in the works now, it probably never will be as other projects take on priority.. look at the track record history of all the other unfinished projects.

and.. this doesn't help the current version of Blackrazor which just plain sucks for the level and status this weapon is supposed to represent.

    Wheres the 'Stealer of Souls'
    Wheres the regeneration, life transference
and really.. requires the killing blow to advance...Not going to be killing much with this gimpy thing.

Even an echo version of this weapon should be a level appropriate useful weapon especially when compared to two weapons that are already more Blackrazor than this thing you are calling Blackrazor...
Nightmare, the fallen moon and Epic Souleater..
This thing should be an upgrade from eSOS and any other lower level greatsword.. a 'Level appropriate' upgrade .. it is an Iconic weapon after all.
For Trap the Soul to be effective, the weapon needs improved cursespewing and the Trap The Soul effect needs to be legendary tier.

As for the vampirism effect, ddo should throw away the current version of vampirism and make a new version more comparable to the legacy vampirism that has a cap towards its ability to scale with healing amp while negatively scaling with attack speed. Meaning trying to get more heals out of the weapon by increasing your attack speed won't work at a certain point and also that there would be a set limit/cap on your max potential heal per hit.

So....... in an upcoming Return to White Plume Mountain RAID we farm for other named items and Marks to craft an improved version of Blackrazor in the Cauldron of Keraptis.
