Could not initialize Direct3D Crash.

I have three computers that my family play DDO on. Two of them, which run Windows10, have developed this problem at separate times. The graphics Hardware Level option is grayed out, and reads DirectX9. If I try to change graphic settings, or Alt-Tab out into another window, the games crashed with a game error [105]. The error reads, "Could not initialize Direct3d. Please ensure that DirectX 9.0C [Dec 2005] or higher is installed. [105]" After I click ok, it repeats the message, and then gives game error [128], about encountering a critical error initializing DirectX 9. Both computers currently have DirectX 12 installed. I double box quite often, and it just started on the second one, which I use. This makes it impossible to double box. Is there a fix for this?

I had this same problem. Even though after lots of money spent trying to get on-line sites that say they can fix the problem and taking many days reading and googling how to fix it, it still doesn't work quite right. I am just a little smarter than a rock when it comes to computers. Now I disconnect every day when I first try logging in. Usually 2nd or 3rd try works. Lots of freezes and lag. Still disconnect if I try to adjust direct 3d settings in game. The game is playable, but frustrating and makes me want to burn down the Windows home office. I have hated Windows 10 since it first came out. "How likely are you to recommend Windows 10 to your friends?" I couldn't be that mean to even my worst enemy.

How I "fixed" it was going to either Intel site or Windows 10 site to download the specific driver on my computer that showed a yellow exclamation point. I don't remember which one it was because I was literally trying everything I could find. Instead of downloading it, I there was another option for a zip file. I zipped it than unzipped it and manually did it that way. I found the directions to do this on one of the Windows forum sites. The guy had it laid out easy for anyone to understand. I know I sound like a 6 year old explaining technology, but maybe someone else with a better understanding can translate.

Things I tried and failed to work was uninstalling the driver than right clicking to search and it would automatically update the latest driver. Going back to a restore point. Going back to factory settings. Reinstalling Windows latest update. A couple different sites that say they fix driver problems. Bought Norton because I thought it was a virus when I first started having the problem. Tried resetting my game settings on launcher. Saw that suggestion in an old DDO thread and apparently some players as far back as 6 months ago were having the same issue in LOTRO. Several other things I found on forums.

I'm having this problem too. Nothing I've tried has fixed the problem.

Using Dirtectx 9 I can play just fine...until I Alt-Tab out to look at a browser (Or really anything). When I try to go back in...It crashes with the same error message.

It doesn't happen with Directx 10...but I get a lot of hitching graphics whenin Directx 10.

3. Run the file you downloaded and it will ask where to save the files, choose the folder you just created and named.
4. Open the folder you just named/created and run DXSETUP.EXE
5. Follow the on screen instructions.

Windows 10 out of the box only has the runtimes for DX12, by installing the file linked above you will install the legacy files needed for earlier versions of DirectX.

If you Alt+Tab out a lot then leave a browser open while you play, I have to do this otherwise I can not Alt+Tab out at all.

I had these problems too in the past. Switching from "Full Screen" mode to "Full Screen (Windowed)" fix that for me.

I have this problem, have done a the DirectX 10 July 2010 SDK as well, and still doesn't let me use my mouse/keyboard and just as likely as not crashes out.

And Microsoft made it so that myriads of customers were blaming developers for this "bug", which could have easily been fixed by Microsoft through shipping Directx9 as a standard. But no, they rather decided to let those developers get badmouthed who didn't support Microsofts newest Direcx toy ...





And now, I just read, that Microsoft has decided to finally support Directx 12 on Windows 7 ... This doesn't seem to be an April's Fool joke, even ...

Yeah, that is the package that includes Directx 9c on June 2010 so 9,10,11,12 and any other developer kit.
