Default OMG do rangers fire slow

I'm guessing the real problem is that the animation is so slow. A bard/rogue swinging a dagger attacks about 3 times for every arrow I shoot. At least that what it seems like.

also, it really seems like the very first arrow misses almost 100%of the time. I'm running with some pretty good gear and I almost always miss on the 1st shot, and misses in general seem really really high.

so, slow (anorexic slow) firing rate, combined with what seems like pre-programmed misses.. it's just painful. awful.. painful...

Are you using haste? You might find that you fire faster. Haste gives melee a mere 15% attack speed increase, but for ranged it's a full 22% faster.

Secondly; what level are you? Melee gets attack speed increase infrequently, while ranged gets attack speed increase for every point of base attack bonus.

And finally. I'm sorry, but no stats in the game is likely to make you file faster.

my strength based Tempest most times even misses on the first shot, but after that I see hits at least 75% of the time. your dex modifier is applied to attack rolls, so I always thought that was the problem until the last 3 past lives I did. during those lives I paid more attention and I felt there was something wrong, just didn't know how to show it as a problem. I also see this first throw miss with returning weapons on my barb and fighters. again, always thought it was the dex modifier not being good enough because those classes typically don't invest in dex.

You are the one choosing not to play alts.

Casual player now investing way less than I used to into the game, playing 1-3 months at a time and still want nothing to do with Reaper. #improvepuggrouping#alldifficultiesmatter

    Bows just suck in DDO.

Shuriken throwers are OP as heck, build one of those instead if you want to play ranged.

L9 ranger atm. Dex is in the 30s somewhere, it's my main stat, and I use dex to damage as well via the DWS tree. Using the Sapphire Sting from ToEE. Has Ranged Alacrity on it, but that doesn't stack with Haste. A L9 bard can kill 2 mobs by the time I've hit one mob a single time. I find I'm most useful paralyzing mobs and not trying to damage them, as even my hireling kills the mobs faster.

Looks like next life I'll have to be a ranger that throws shurikens. Or maybe vistani knife thrower... Disappointing!

It gets better with time. While at cap I didn't notice much difference between me and the Rogues or Artificers (not saying there wasn't a difference, just that it was tolerable). Ranged alacrity/double shot helps here which really only helps at/near cap.

It's a bug. A really really annoying bug. Also, if you get the one where you see no damage, move (hopefully not into more danger). That one is annoying too.

Once I got IPS, Ranger didn't feel so bad. Until then though I choose to melee.

OMG.. thank you! I see that a lot and never really understood what was going on. Shoot and shoot and shoot but nothing seems to be happening. I get where your target moves and isn't in line of sight anymore, or off to the side, but sometimes it's standing right in front of me and nothing. I eventually move, but never figured out what I was doing wrong as LOS and everything should have been ok.

tbh Ive done 20+ ranger lives and I don't see that happen to often for me >.> or at least it isn't noticeable.

But yes fire rate is slowest for rangers due to lack of feats comparatively to the others. All get rapid shot, throwers get quick draw and crossbows get rapid reload. For early levels before elemental arrows starts becoming good damage I'd use a repeating xbow/buy a few scrolls of conjure bolts to get you through.

BAB does increase attack speed too so itll get better later on.
