There has been no mention from what I have seen.
The Madness upgrade as it sits now are outdated heroic effects from 2011.
the spell focus and Lore upgrades are trumped by level 3-5 basic gear.
Legendary Madness upgrades had the potential to be a nice addition.. but no.. just the old outdated obsolete heroic upgrades from 2011.. Update 9.. harbringer of manessa nd the original Cannith crafting system..
we have had 2 loot revamps and a complete rework of the Cannith crafting system since then.
Would have been nice to seen these items be a mix/match with the Ravenloft sets, they could of had a token upgrade system to have the items become part of those set bonuses..
Its too bad there wasn't time spent on updating the Madness effects and adding the Legendary versions of Madness effects for this packs release.
For me it becomes filler alt gear or maybe it will get updated while sitting collecting dust on packmules while the sentient gem eyes it up for lunch..

Can we get a Dev to comment on epic trace of madness upgrades. Is it just the heroic upgrades that are available?

I haven't used one so I don't know what the proc rate is like, but I wouldn't call a displacement guard "worthless" in theory. Not a big reason to wear one of the items in itself, but if I wanted to use one of the helms anyway I'd definitely throw on that upgrade.

These are Legendary Gear items with access to outdated obsolete heroic effects.
IIRC was the Heroic Greensteel era proc rates.. 1-2% for melee and 5% for guards.
So when you get hit 20ish times you will eventually proc.. assuming you are not a soulstone..
The will/resistance save upgrades do not stack with other regular save items, and is trumped by Resistance which covers all 3 saves.
The Conjuration/Illusion DC is now a level 3 basic gear/cannith craft effect. trumped by spell focus at level 5.
The Spell Lore 1.. pft... again non-stacking .. and its a level 1 effect.
All these items are not compatible with Ravenloft set items which further diminishes their value.
All these Madness upgrade effects on Legendary level gear are in my opinion effectively worthless..
DDO should have taken the time to update this to current level standards and introduced Legendary versions for the upgrades for the Legendary level items..
But it is what it is.

The Trace of Madness on U38 items is intended as a nice flavor effect, a little thematic bonus for those who want it.
If you don't find the upgrade scheme useful, feel free to not use it - The items' other effects were not diminished to "make room" for the upgrade scheme, they're already as powerful as intended.
There are no plans for a separate "Legendary" set of upgrades at this time.

The fact that some changes are necessary is not diminished by the fact that other necessary changes have not happened yet.
I put the heroic daze attack proc on my legendary helm, but I haven't seen any effect. Does anyone know how this proc works? There's no save listed in the description nor is there a proc chance listed. Any information would be nice. I'm fine with them only using the old heroic system since it's basically a free extra effect on the item, but if none of these things even work then it's worthless. The only one I can see using if this melee daze does nothing is the displacement guard, but I really don't want to farm another helm.
the displacement is ok but the solipsism should be the best
is this the solipsism? That should make the sap symbol appear over their head. It instantly disappears when struck again. So in epics, all that doublestrike/TWF offhand/glancing blows etc might be making a mess of hiding it. It should still disrupt enemy chain attacks like spellcasting etc. I have not tested it yet on the new gear but it was very nice on parasitic breastplate.

Yup, that's the one. I'll test this unarmed (so as to not kill things super fast) to make sure it's working right. The only reason I got it was for the attack chain disruption (like guardbreaking), because if I have this and guardbreaking, that would be some very nice CC.
I don't really see what the fuss is about with these extra effects. It's a nice boost, as long as they aren't bugged. If nothing else, everyone can benefit from Displacement Guard.
