Default What Race Do You Want To See Next (Assuming new races are inevitable?)

This list is updated from some data gathered by a poll I ran a while back prior to the introduction of Dragonborn, Gnome and Deep Gnome.

    1 - Thri-Kreen
2 - Tiefling (Made more dark and aesthetically pleasing in appearance)
    3 - Kobold
    4 - Catfolk or Tabaxi
    5 - Genasi
    6 - Goliath
    7 - Kenku
    8 - Triton
    9 - Yuan-Ti
    10 - Eladrin (Ghaele + Bralani)
    11 - Changelings
    12 - Quorforged
    13 - Inspired
    14 - Duergar
    15 - Arcanaloth/Nycaloth/Mezzoloth/Ultroloth

Personally, I feel a Tiefling Iconic with Intelligence to hit and damage on their racial enhancement tree would be awesome, call it infernal cunning!

I thought they had sorta promised (teased at least) that they were working on Kobold and Tiefling.
I gave up a life of farming to become an Adventurer.

1 - Thri-Kreen the devs just cleaned up a few exploit swf/2wf wolf build, can you imagine the headache this might cause? also, a +30 to jump...no way!
2 - Tiefling (Made more dark and aesthetically pleasing in appearance) another reskinned monstrocity that, at least in eberon, would be poorly treated.
    3 - Kobold just no
4 - Catfolk or Tabaxi i rather see a shifter, it fits the setting. a cat person should be staked with a silver weapon for looking like a lycanthrope.
5 - Genasi elementally flavored humanoids? meh
6 - Goliath if 2hf melee was fun again, maybe. can you imagine running through coal chamber with that size, what about a 3rd+lifer? They are on the top end of what medium sized allows for, nearly large sized
7 - Kenku avian or non avian?
8 - Triton in 3,5, on wich ddo is based, they have a fish tale, no legs....also doesn't fit the setting.
9 - Yuan-Ti can you imagine the hitbox? the animation problems?
10 - Eladrin (Ghaele + Bralani) a race that can turn into a flying orb? bad idea for a game with platforming.
11 - Changelings at least this fits the setting and gives the devs an opportunity to fix the half elf mess and make a decent social skill based race
12 - Quorforged let them fix the other 2 (p2p) robot races before selling another
13 - Inspired how about selling the quari headpiece in the ddo store instead? btw, it's more of a NPC rather then a PC due to conflicts of interests.
14 - Duergar too powerful as a heroic race, maybe an iconic? i personally don't see the atraction
15 - Arcanaloth/Nycaloth/Mezzoloth/Ultroloth not only horribly evil, also vastly different body types, so not gone happen. a flying toon bypasses a lot of terrain.

Personally, I feel a Tiefling Iconic with Intelligence to hit and damage on their racial enhancement tree would be awesome, call it infernal cunning!
i rather see playable races that fit the setting and don't break the game (like having a fish tail instead of legs or having the ability to fly and bypass parts of the quest.
An iconic dwarven battle rager was in the planning but go canceled about what feels like half a decade ago.
    Shifter would fit the setting.
A changeling would fit the bill for a social race.
Even goblinoid pc's are far more common then half the races you provided.

Was enjoying Strimtom's twitch stream earlier today and the topic of new classes you would like to see came up. There are a lot of classes in the game now and hard to come up with one that is distinctively different from what we already have. There are still many possibilities with races however.

We have seen involved discussion on Tiefling and Kobold character classes and I do recall passing mention of Githyanki. Personally I'm not fond of Kobold characters anytime soon but they might be a good introduction with Goblins as enemies in the distant future. Githyanki normally populate the Astral Plane and visits to the Prime Material plane are not so common. To suddenly have Eberron and Forgotten Realms over run by Githyanki would be hard to justify lore-wise. They also use psionics so that would mean an introduction of a new attack system that adds to the amount of work needed to make this a reality. (although the Psion class could be included in such a roll-out) I think Tiefling would be the most likely from the three although there are some obvious issues with horns and tails as they were not released at the same time as Aasimar as had been tentatively discussed by the devs. From the three classes that I recall discussions of, I'd like to see Tiefling as there are already populations of them throughout the game and they are a pretty common class in D&D as is.

To answer the question "What race do you want to see next", my vote would go for Goliath. The race is a larger humanoid and comparatively easier to make and they just look badass:

The biggest problem may be the character size and making that work in game.

As far as the 'easiest' race to introduce that would fit seamlessly into the game would be Duergar. They are considered a sub-race of Dwarves in D&D, already are common in game and could be included with slight alterations to the already existing Dwarf race model. Adding Duergar as an Iconic race would be a close runner up to my first vote.

*edit* After taking a look at the official character races for D&D 5e the stat adjustments from the Goliath are the same as Half-Orcs so race distinction in game play might be an issue. Another possibility for giantish races out there could be Firbolg which have a bonus to Wisdom.

    Kobold.

They have -2 to every stat and half hp, their past lives give +1 jump each stack.
They do have a racial tree but it mainly gives bonuses to random skills and lets you summon throwable fire bombs.

You'd never chose this but it's required for completionist now.

I like this. I think kobolds should get a flanking bonus as their PL benefit—+2 to hit & damage when flanking.

    Kalashtar

Should have been a part of this game from the beginning.

    Tiefling is boring. . . I'd rather see Half-ogre.

Thri-Kreen - although interesting is not really plausible.

    Default Qullan

I once had a DM let me play a Qullan witchdoctor. Now that was a fun character. Are Qullan even included in the later versions? One of my old 1e campaigns contained a whole archipelago inhabited by various Qullan tribes. I changed the warpaint to tattoos and made them headhunters. I'd enjoy having one as a PC again..

Shifter base and iconic since it is a race directly from eberron.
Duergar as dwarf iconic with constitution enhancement to hit and damage.

    Default My 2 Cents

Personally I would like both a combination Heroic and Iconic race with a complementary class thrown in, so I am suggesting Mind Flayer with Psionic class.
My 2 mains are Mornyngstar and Seldissan on Thelanis but I also have toons on all servers with those names. Any toon that has Mornyngstar Clan as their last name is most likely me.

And an iconic dwarf, whether Duergar or Battlerager (or both!).

I would vote Tiefling to bring the Fiend race now that we have an angelic one.

But I wouldn't be upset if they add the Hound Archon

Don't really see a need for more races, most of those I wouldn't want to play.

Definitely can't stand kobolds that's a big NO. Tieflings are just behind them for annoyance too. Although Tiefling Iconic could be Warlock, which works for me.

If I had to choose I guess I would go for Duregar, but only as the least worst of that list.

More iconics tho, for existing race/class, I think sounds ok.

If it's a totally new model, iconic and normal should both be on the table, like gnome/deep gnome.

You said new races are inevitable? I'm not sure where you got to that conclusion; but if it must be that way I think I'll pick the Kolyarut.

The Kolyarut is the only inevitable that's medium sized and use weapons and armor; which would make them the easiest inevitable for the devs to incorperate into the game as a player race. They do maticulous planning before a mission, which fits well with DDO players, and Enervation Ray could be fun to play around with.
