    Default Returning Warlock

    Good Afternoon.

Just after some advice really. I bought the warlock when it first came out and i must admit i was very excited by the class.
I immediately rolled up a level 1 character and delved into korthos as i usually do ( I really enjoy running Korthos reminds me of the very first time i played) but for some reason something was missing about the class (i've played many toon's over the years and really enjoyed running each one through Korthos, whether it was sneaking about in a rogue, laying waste to my enemies from afar with a spellcaster or getting close and personal with a melee character) but i just couldnt put my finger on it. once i had logged off i didnt actually come back to the game for a few months (every time i thought about loading DDO up i just couldnt bring myself to play my warlock) finally came back and hit the harbour and still had that nagging feeling that i wasn't really enjoying my time in DDO. when i logged off this time i thought id do a bit of research incase i had rolled up the class wrong
looking at my stats and skills i had picked nothing seemed to be out of place (i've gone for a Pure Casting Warlock DC Eld Blast Build) I'm now level 6 and im really not enjoying the class i feel like every quest i do all i seem to do is hit one button until the enemy dies (which is strange because when im meleeing its the same thing although having a few skills etc breaks up the same button pressing) im just wondering if playing a warlock gets any better the higher level i get or if the whole class seems to be just pressing one button over and over again.

Anyway any help or advice would be much appreciated (i have multiple high level characters which i enjoy i just cant understand why i don't enjoy the warlock)

There are a few activated abilities you'll want as you progress, which will diversify your button pressing a little. Once you reach epics, you'll have to rely on your DC-based abilities a lot more than your EB, because the damage doesn't scale well into epics.

If you're expecting to play a warlock like a wizard or sorcerer, it'll feel weird. They play a lot closer to an archer with AoEs and a few spell-like abilities.

It's always a shame when the hammer of poor design choices smashes the fun of player tactical adaptation.

At that level it's alot of running backwards and killing stuff with the cone, consume and stricken. As you go up in levels you will have other spells you can use which mixes things up quite a bit and makes for some interesting choices. You should be close to having web if you don't already have it. Phantasmal killer is 3 levels away. Evard's tentacles is 4 levels away.

Warlock is kind of underwhelming at lower levels but by level 12 it's alot of fun. At epic levels there are many many options and gameplay is much more interesting.

Warlock is a slow starter. On Korthos you generally don't have chain shape, let alone cone shape for AoE fun. It's a lot of pew pew pew single target blasting.

For some enjoyment, I'd recommend picking up the level 1 spell Charm Person. It can make the final dungeon far more interesting as you flip half the cultists coming at you to your side and see them fighting one another. Beyond that, your Eldritch blast replaces your weapons, so you don't really get to feel like you're swinging a sword or an axe or firing a bow, and you only get a spell per level (and sometimes not even that), so the spellbook isn't exactly large and varied.

Stick with it. At level 6 and level 12 it'll all pay off.

    Hi

thanks for all of your answers, okay as long as here is light at the end of the tunnel ill carry on. Its funny but i actually enjoy playing archer (arcane) and ive had lots of fun with that (might be because i can choose different effects depending on the monsters i'm against, were as with warlock its one button does all)

U can play warlck in 2 ways:
1- simply click eldritch blast all the Time ( Think this not work over reaper1)
2- use all abilities and spella u have depending on your pact. You can charm, web, hold monster, evards, hurl (if u have) finger of death...this can be more difficult, but fun and it is the way to play r10
    In game in Cannith as
Aborim Master (main toon) --- Nickallin (my tank)--- Jjnick (warlock 30) --- Nickpunick ()--- Nickruvido (my healer)--- Nickallinone (shuri build)
guild: not Flagged ( ex guardiani di eberron, ex gods, ex kvp)

Get consume and stricken. At least that will be two more buttons to push and timers to watch.

Entangle and Web and Charms are also very useful.

If your not casting spells then your really not playing your dc caster correctly. If your just one button playing then your really missing out on what the class can really do.

Warlocks are a ton of fun at level 12. You don't have to make it too much further to really start having a blast with them.
