Default Ravenloft recall to public areas issue

At the moment of this post, recalling from the Barovian wilderness will send you to House J instead of the public area tavern you were last in (Blood on the Vine in Barovia, Blue Water in Vallaki, or van Richten's Tower).

When Ravenloft first dropped we could recall directly to the safe public zone we were in last.

This is particularly frustrating when doing the 3rd arc from van Richten's Tower, as you cannot go directly there from house J. You have to go to one of the other places first, then port to the tower, between. every. quest.

If it's not possible to get things back to how they were at launch (recalling in the wilderness sending you to the last Ravenloft public zone you were in), can we at least get additional guides placed outside of every quest to take us back to the tavern or tower we need to go to?

    Please and thanks.

Yea it's a pain. I'm surprised there haven't been more complaints on this.

With the recent teleport updates the guides were moved inside the taverns which was awesome, one less loading screen to get where your going.

Using the very handy Bottle of Mist and going through Barovia is now the quickest way to get back to your ship from anywhere in the game besides buying ship teleporters from the DDO store. This too is excellent and may be the biggest teleport advance in the game that I've seen as long as I've been playing. Before, the quickest way was teleporting to Harbor and running to the Airship Access point which takes about 11 seconds, jumping through the tavern to get to the Exit location takes only a couple seconds.

Not only that, but when your 2.5 hour cool down Key to Eveningstar is unusable, you can use the Bottle of Mist to get you back to Eveningstar without having to run through the ridiculous cavern of the damned or log out of the game to travel within it. For these excellent steps forward, thank you!!!!

But yeah, while doing the quests in Barovia, constantly teleporting to House J is un-immersive to say the least.

Thanks for the feedback, this does seem like something we should look into.

After a non exaustive testing, it seem that depending if you entered the wild through the door or the guide, different result happens, it seem if you enter the wilderness through the door, and recall you go back to where you came from, but if you use a guide to travel, and then recall you will be ported back to Jorasco. Code-wise, if I had to take a guess, it would be that when you enter a wilderness through a door, the game register that specific spot as your entry point, and maintain it as long you in a "questing area" be it the wilderness or the quest. Before they put the guide inside, having it outside let the game register that exit point as your recall location. now with the guide inside, porting through the NPC will not anchor a recall point for the game, the game essentially consider you teleport there from an NPC/unknown location, and default your return to Jorasco.

    in a nutshell:
    - entering the wild through a door and recalling bring you back where you entered from
    - using the guide then recalling port you to Jorasco (no entry point registered)
    - entering the wilderness, then going back inside and using the guide, then recalling also bring you back to Jorasco, because you exited the wild to go talk to the NPC, you lost your anchor to that specific location.

addendum edit: This is also probably why the guides were in the wild to begin with.

... and when you do a Vale quest and recall from the Vale, could we go to Meridia? (rather than the Twelve)

If you DD rather than recall from the quest. Been that way forever. You can also recall, reenter, walk out the door a d recall back to Meridia.

This would be a nice QoL update.

Trapped in a demi-plane.... Unable to leave due to all-ecompassing mists.... You must solve the mystery.... oops, you recalled back to Jorasco.

"To say the least" indeed. Of course I thought that it would be improved it they made it so you could not leave until you completed the saga.

This could be related to something I submitted a bug report on when Ravenloft was first released.

When you complete the mission into the mist for the very first time it flags your character. The problem is for teleport purposes only the first person to approach the final door, hence completing the mission, gets properly flagged.

My guild mate and I tested this with the bottle of mist. He walked to the door first on a fresh life and his bottle of mist took him to the tavern, mine took me house J. We repeated the mission and I walked up to the door first to complete the mission and we were both able to teleport to the tavern with our bottle of mist. Our next life we ran the mission almost to ransack with him walking out the door first. My bottle of mist would not take me to the tavern until our final run when I walked to the door first. This did not prevent me from doing missions or running around in Ravenloft. It just caused issues with teleporting.

We tested further during farming. Pull the mission in house J and complete it. Zone out and there is a stump that lets you repeat the mission without needing to zone back to house J. The first person to zone out can choose to repeat the mission. The second person gets told they are not on the right step. We tested this back and forth and this part is repeatable even if you have completed the mission and can teleport properly.

There is an issue with the flagging for the quest "into the mist" and the mission completion.

I have been doing TRs lately and I have not done a whole lot of ravenloft as a result. I am not certain if this bug still exists or not.
