    Default Iron Defender Docents

What's generally good docent to have on an Iron Defender?

I will eventually give it the Trip enhancement, so Combat Mastery seems to be good. (Do Iron Defenders automagically trip enemies, or do I have to click its hotbar each time?)

Right now at level 13, my Iron Defender has Evasion and the AC & DR stuff. It currently has a +4 CON docent with acid guard, and might get upgraded to the Gorgon Docent. I haven't been too excited about the Thick Skin docent from the anniversary event, but am wondering if the ML10 version of it on my Iron Defender might actually not be too bad. Is there better stuff out there for an Iron Defender that isn't too challenging to acquire? (My artificer is a Warforged, so I might be motivated to make an extra effort to farm up cool named docents.)

Collars are a bit tougher, and I assume I'll have to craft a decent one.

If you have ravenloft, then your dog gear is obvious: Armor is either Dreadcursed Defender from Mad Tea Party or Kindred Spirit (due to coding, this provides extra PRR compared to the docent) from Sunrise. Your best collar is either a Barovian handwraps converted to a collar or Hound of Night. The fun part about Hound of Night is that your dog gets glowing misty eyes for equipping it.

I don't have Ravenloft. I hear there's a ton of great items in there, though! Not sure which docents to use in the meantime.

I had no idea that handwraps could be turned into a collar! I do have some named handwraps laying around, so I'll have to check those out and see what I can make. (Maybe I should've been more active in the game the past six years so I'd be more in-the-know.)

In that case, how about some dragonscale docents? White for fort/ac or black for armor piercing and haste proc's (if that works on iron defenders, not sure about that)

Yeah, the Black and White Dragonscale docents and armors look sweet! My artificer has level 13 banked, and is close to being able to use those. However, I don't even have the scales to grab Black Dragonplate for my level 14 paladin, who could really rock that armor.

In heroic I use the temple docents a lot because they have dusk on them for the 10% miss and fortification and a slot. Mournlode docent from challenges is also very good for the dog but *grind* and once you get to 14 look out for heartwood docent for sure!

I forgot to mention, a fearsome docent from cannith crafting does serious work on early levels when the puppy is a true beast

    Default Blue Augment Slot

The fearsome docent does sound good, for the debuffs and crowd control.

As a stop-gap until I get a really good docent for the Iron Defender, I grabbed a ML10 Thick Skin during the anniversary event. This puts its AC at 56 and its fortification at a good number. What would be good in the blue augment slot? Since my Iron Defender has Evasion, I'm leaning toward +3 to all saves. Is that probably better than +3 more AC, +6 more PRR/MRR, or an exorbitant amount of fortification?

Not sure, but I can not get any augments in docents to show for my iron defender. No blue, no colorless... all show empty. Pretty sure this is NOT a feature and if SSG is going to sell items to equip, then they should work. For now, seems totally borked.

The augment system overhaul messed up augments for pets, so they're now unable to use them unless you have items that had augments installed under the old augment system.

Feel free to submit a bug report to remind them of this bug.

When I got that Docent from Chronoscope so many years ago,
I was sooo much disappointed that the Iron Defender didn't / couldn't use its embedded spells !
"You are a Tiefling. And a Cleric, with the Domain of the Sun. Doesn't that contradict each other ?" "No, all my friends are playing evil. I found that so boring that I decided to be on the good side. And, besides, Sun and Fire, where is the difference, really ?"
