Downtime alert yet no warning on Service News

Was just logged in, red message, worlds coming down in 20 minutes.

Nothing advertised on the launcher page, nothing in service news section of the OFFICIAL DDO forums...what gives? Hamsters need to be fed?

Haven't looked on Facebook yet for any announcements...dusting off my crystal ball now to get some insight.

Could be an emergency fix
Could be something that needed swift action to neutralise a problem, hence 20 minutes rather than the normal pre-announcement plus 1 hour.
Could be hamsters... but it's more likely to be osquips.

Yup, being an IT person myself I fully understand, "things happen"...but even if there is an emergency fix, whoever is coordinating it should have thought of that maybe we should tell our customers before we pull the plug...

You know good customer services and all that fun stuff ... even hotfixes typically get some sort of heads up.

So why did they announce it on other servers too? Pretty annoying to be honest. You stop your quest and exit only to discover there's no restart at all. Good job.

when i look now it is only Thelanis and Sarlona. Maybe they are doing worlds in turns to take out festivult and/or do a hot fix.

You know good customer services and all that fun stuff ... even hotfixes typically get some sort of heads up.

There are scenarios where the time taken to give the heads up delays the resolution... and you can get it fixed with minimal impact.
Then you have "we don't care enough to bother letting them know, because it's such a quick fix".

I try to assume it's the former. Fingers crossed it was not the latter!

The emergency maintenance fixed an issue that was preventing me from partying and loading certain zones. Not sure if that was the purpose of it, but glad it happened.
