Yeah, it'd be nice. It does kinda favor those who have a weapon in each hand, since the bonuses aren't bigger or smaller for one or two-handed weapons.
Edit: Oh, ANY weapon with a sentient gem slotted will reject being put in your offhand. So you can't get more than one even if you dual-wield.

yeah, how they do it, no one gets more then one sentient weapon at a time, no matter if they thf, twf, s+b, monk-wraps, use caster sticks, bows, shuriken, repeaters, rune arms, orbs, or any other configuration of weapons.
This is probably the best way to do it, so it doesn't favor any weapon style innately. However, I'm a little concerned that it might discourage swapping weapons, and thus builds which need to swap weapons a lot (q-staff builds for example).
It sounds like if you're a dedicated trapper, you can still swap out for a second sentient geared for trapping, you just have to swap out the sentient you're already using.
