I've recently found that the only safe way for me to change resolution is in the UserPreferences file at My PC > Documents > Dungeons and Dragons Online. If I have to adjust my resolution for any reason, I get a DirectX 9 error on my brand new gaming laptop. I know it's not me, so I work around the error by adjusting my preferences.
"It works for me." (Not a guarantee of success. Do not ingest. Not for internal use. Do not taunt Happy Fun Ball.)

Well I was able to install DDO on one User account on my computer with DX11 and High def. On other account on same computer it crashes when I change the rez to hight 1080p. Also dx9 is greyed out.
??
I installed dx9 june2010. I also deleted use pref and did repair resets.
Chaotic Evil
Makes sure DDO can access the controlled folders:

I tried you security stuff. Still get directx 3d error. I got the block messages and allowed access to document preferences.
Multiple User accounts Windows 10. One works with Hiz rez dx11. Other limit dx9 lower resolutions and game crashes with dx3d error message if I try to raise it to higher def. Game was installed on other account first. The first account on computer and a local account. So when I created the second account DDO was moved over automatically to it.

It sounds like the dx9 didn't get installed correctly, or its only available for the one account which is odd.

You ran that as admin? And I mean the installer portion after it unpacks?
I was hoping to delete the other account off this computer. I learned that Microsoft Windows and Store and Xbox need to have the same login User to work right. I was wondering if I uninstall DDO on this Windows user account will it be deleted on the other Windows user account? If it was not working right on the other account I would. But it is working great on the other Windows user account. It has Ultra High DX11. This one just has errors. I even installed dx9,10,11 June2010 on this account from 2 different folders. One from the hardrive c: and one from the user folder that was the default dx install path.
Also on the messed up account it would ask to install Hiz Rez after I reset and repaired. I think this is normal and it should already be installed.

Did a reinstall. Now both Windows User accounts are locked in dx9, but I have high rez in full windows mode. DX errors with Triple Buffer and Vsync checkmarks. So is there a specific fix to get dx10 and dx11 options and Triple Buffer and Vsync?

I found that the new install is defaulted at the 64 bit client. I was having all of the above issues, followed all of the steps. Issue still persisted.
I then moved the checkmark to the 32 bit client. was asked about using DX11. DX 9 was no longer grayed out. Able to change resolution and alt tab out of game.
