    Default Battle Cleric Sword/Shield Build

    Hello DDO peeps

I am a fairly new DDO player and I am searching for a cleric build that involves shield and bastard sword. I want the build to be 15/4/1 cleric/pally/fighter. I have found axels build with the 2hander. What I need help with is the feats placement order for the shield/bastard Sword and other feats. I am willing to give up some dps for more tankness.

Thanks for any help and suggestions!

I've mulled S&B clerics since domains came out and the least bad option IMO:

Class split: ftr 6 / cleric 14 (War domain) - ftr for feats and access to trees, cleric for healing (duh) and Holy Sword
Race: PDK for extra feat and access to Helm (free b.sword prof); dwarf using d.axes would be okay too and opens TYWA for max gimp- err, "flavor"
Stats: STR 18 / CON 16 / CHA 16 on 36-pt build (tweak as necessary)
Feats: mix of melee DPS, shield feats, and healing metamagics (Emp Heal etc.)
Enhancements: baseline is 32 APs Radiant Servant (aura) / 13 Stalwart D. (Tenacious Defense) / 11 Vanguard (lvl 6 core for +5% attack speed), leaving 24 APs free.

6 fighter/14 cleric is an option

8 fighter/12 cleric will be a bit better at fighting but a bit less cleric-y. Surprising isn't it?

22 points warpriest for Divine Might, Ameliorating Strike and Righteous weapons, and permanent blur.
34 points Kensai for +1/+1 critical profile, melee power and lots of damage
11 points Vanguard for 5% attack speed
13 points Stalwart Defender for 20% HP and 10+15 PRR and MRR

This allows you to take any domain, protection looks like a decent choice, war is still a good option, animal also looks good.
Selvera: Aasimar Fighter 20/Epic 10; Old and wise fighter.
Jen: Half Elf Fvs 4; Healer Archer on a TR with friends
Mayve: Drow Bard 14/Wizard 6/Epic 7; Vampire Enchantress

Hi, ok hope you have 32 pt
    Go war domain for exotics
    15/4/1
    Ln human
    Str 15 +7
    Dex 12
    Con 14
    Int 10
    Wis 12
    Cha 15
    Umd heal jump

    1 cleric empower heal
    Feat extend
2 cleric go Aureon for blessing with turns
    3 Cleric shield mastery
4-5 cleric exotic weapons bastard sword
    6 pally thf
    7-8 pally
    9 cleric quicken
    10-12 cleric ic slash
    13 pally +20% hp tier4
    14-15 cleric imp shield mastery
    16-18 cleric ithf holy sword
    19 ftr gthf
    20 cleric

Ok I build this with both thf and shield
    You're new you can experiment
    Thf gives you melee power
War domain gives you bastard sword
Go cleric to 5 for exotics, during this time find groups to heal, you won't have any dps
Then sword and board bastard sword
At 5 cure serious wounds, use empower healing on it
6-8 go pally for sacred d prr mrr and hit points
    Wear heavy armor
Then it's cleric to 18 for holy sword
    19 ftr to complete gthf
    20 to complete build
If you roll over at 20, you won't see last 2 levels usually
Build is good to 18 for basic s&b cleric
Could go dragonborn if you got other races
    Good luck

    Edit
If 28 pt take a point off str and cha
Also all level ups in str

Except for saves: pal 4 means Divine Grace provides up to 2 + (3 * 4) = +14 to saves (CHA 38). Also provides Lay on Hands which would be used to power Light the Dark for epic heals.

    Hey u,
They patched exotic weapons, last patch
Haven't tested, but assume , their second try

    Op,
    Glad you like the build
Wrote it off top of my head,
    But stats should be good,
Maybe switch 2 pts dex into 2 pts int
So you have 3 skill points
I assume you don't have tomes?
My best advice, buy +6 supreme,
    If you intend to stay,

Is there a better heroic leveling order? Enh, probably. Do I care enough to figure it out? Enh, probably not.

In terms of feats, there's some options based on whether you want more melee DPS, more metamagics for better heals (mostly from radiant bursts), or better defenses.

Since this is a first-life build, I tried not to get too crazy with the ED stuff. Legendary SM is the only must-have Twist, IMO, which only requires 3 Fate pts to unlock.

In this case, SwNT is for the extra doublestrike from the Kensei cores, not for the +1 crit multiplier, which doesn't stack with Holy Sword. Feel free to ditch Kensei for more Stalwart D, VG, or WP APs. EDIT: I considered taking Ameliorating Strike, but didn't think it left enough APs for other things. Feel free to experiment, though, with e.g. 32 RS / 22 WP / 13 SD / 13 VG.

Yeah, its all about finding the Healing play style you like and i get bored very fast. I would take War Priest Ameliorating Strike and take Stalwart Defender Tier 5 Block and Cut with Reprisal for 25% double Strike for some synergy after firing up Divine Might and Haste Boost.

I think you can get a decent Aura Burst and extra turns to keep the cost down to 16 APs in RS raising your Cleric level with Intense Healing. Maximize for using Burst as a weapon against undead etc.

Or scrap RS completely and put the points into 3 Levels of Wizard for some nice defensive enhancements from EK tree. 11 Cleric/3 Wizard/6 Fighter with Strength Domain and Force of Personality feat for Charisma to Will Saves. Maybe even scrap all APs from Cleric Enhancements and go beast offensive tank with Quicken feat Healing Domain 14 Cleric/ 6 Fighter.

Just spit balling some ideas i have for my next build.

    Its all good

My thinking was having both auras and Ameliorating Strike would mean plenty of passive free heals which don't interrupt your melee DPS; so you only have to pause your fighting for big burst heals. The downside is RS aura + WP AS is 54 APs, which leaves only 26 to spend and on this build I'd want at least 13 APs SD for Durable+Tenacious Defense (+25 PRR/MRR +20% HPs) and 11 APs VG for the cores (+5% atk speed +20% shield bash), which uhhh doesn't leave much wiggle room. And this is an instance where extra racial APs doesn't help much, since I'm constrained by the class-only APs.

Yes you could go with a deeper MC and skip RS auras and blah blah blah; but I'm inferring the OP's goal is "party healer + melee DPS + S&B tank-y-ness" in roughly that order of importance, so that's what I tried to build towards.

Yes for advice to a new player it is best to learn everything about the cleric and having all forms of healing with some CC (crowd control) through stuns and other Cleric spells you have covered the gambit.

Kensai is nice for damage and some Vanguard has some nice additions too. Im amazed how much damage is in Kensai and Vanguard usually unreachable by clerics.

I have gone ahead and am experimenting with your build and it has super succeeded my expectations I will have to say you know your information very well. So once again Thank YOU for posting information and builds.

I am inquiring WHY though 2 handed fighting when using a sword / shield build? I don't understand the mechanics behind it specially when I read the feats for 2 handed fighting. If you could explain the reasoning behind it so I may understand even more.

    Thanks Again!!!

    Lots to learn

Edit: The three Feats Two Handed Fighting line adds 10%x3 +20% from the weapon itself. The glancing blows work on 2 Handed Weapons, Bastard Sword and Dwarven Axes only for 1 handed weapons.
Perfect Two Handed Fighting is the 4th feat in the line for an additional +10%.

Also a chance to produce weapon effect (Fire etc)
    None just weapon 0%
    Two Handed Fighting +3%
    Improved Two Handed Fighting +3%
    Greater Two Handed Fighting +3%
Perfect Two Handed Fighting +10% (Can be taken in Epic Destiny level 26 or 28 with out the other THF feats taken)

Glancing Blows also register during Cleave attacks. Its a lot of extra damage and well worth the feats.

You can also fight with 2 Handed Weapon when you want to in easier content for a lot more hit power.

Bastard swords and dwarven axes get glancing blows when single-wielded (i.e., S&B or SWF). For more details, read the wiki page GreenBastred linked.

These would be the new paladins they're introducing with ravenloft.

    Actually,
It comes from too many past life's running a monk
And always being considerate of litany,
The new quarter staves too, they're evil.
But I went cleric first, forgot the pally part.
