Default Installed DDO through Steam on Windows 10

Alright well I sent an email a few days ago to the help and I've yet to receive a response from the official help team so I figure forums are usually full of people who know their stuff, so why not ask here. The client will launch but after I enter my info and hit log in to a server I get nothing. The game doesn't launch and yet tells me it is already running. I check my task manager, the game isn't actually running at all. Can anyone help me out with this? Have you had issues with this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

There's a log file that gets created when the launcher goes to run the actual game client: dndclient.log
I forget if it's in the install directory or in the DDO folder under "My Documents", but have a look there
first and see if there's anything obvious.

Under neither the My Documents DDO Folder nor the Install Folder is there a file called that at all. Nothing similar to that. There is a dndclient application, but that's it.

Edit: I did find a file called dndclient_Awesomium that is a document. Here's the text from that. /shrug I don't know if this is what I need or not.

000000000.000: Invalid Command-line "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Dungeons and Dragons Online\dndclient_awesomium.exe" : You must specify an account name

This happened to me when I recently updated my computer, so you might be having the same issue. The issue is that DX12 claims to but doesn't totally support earlier versions of DX that are required to run DDO. You can download the DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer from Microsoft, and that solved the problem for me. Here's a link to the web installer: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/Down...ion.aspx?id=35

I ran that and this is what I get.

Directx setup has determined that a newer or equivalent version of Directx has been installed already. No installation is necessary.

I know. If you read my OP I said I sent a ticket in a few days ago and haven't gotten a response back yet.

Thanks for the help anyway. Hopefully I get a response soon. /shrug

You may need both a Virtual C++ 2010 installation for its .dll files (and sadly, nearly always a PITA to install), plus the most recent (i.e. very old) version of .Net 1.x (32 bit) -- also, to activate the Windows 10 version of .Net via "turn Windows features on or off".

DDO relies on several XP era Windows files and configuration data that have not been automatically present in typical Windows installations since the release of Windows Vista & Server 2010 and &c.

    Got your back dude

Try this.. download Direct 9 runtimes (Win 10 installs 12, you can have both installed) https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/down....aspx?id=19743
That should do it fo you..

If not, you might need to install the .net framework as well

There are TWO installers for DirectX. DO NOT use the web installer, as it will detect the newer version and do nothing.

The game files are located c:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common look in the dungeons and dragons folder and try to run the launcher directly bypassing steam, you can also try right clicking and run as admin. I think there is a way to force the updater to run as well don’t remember the name of that file.

You should be able to look for the log ArgentMage is referring to by opening file explorer, and in the search box typing dndclient.log or *.log. The search can take time, and you may need to delve into a drive for it to produce less noisy results for *.log, since the wildcard * will get every file ending in .log.

The awesomium.exe is an updater service the launcher can use to get packages for faster updating.

When you say it doesn't run, are you saying you pick your server, the screen goes black, then goes back to steam/desktop? And no icons in the taskbar (bottom of the screen) for ddo?

Did you ever run the game without steam? Like download/install from the main page: https://www.ddo.com/en/game/download? I just want to establish if this is a steam issue or a game compat issue.

I had a similar issue that was due to a missing XInput9_1_0.dll file. It seems that the DirectX 9 installer doesn't always install all of the components on some versions of Windows (Windows Server 2012R2 for me, which I realize is probably something of an edge case). Check to see if you have a c:\windows\system32\XInput9_1_0.dll file - if you do, this obviously isn't the fix. If not, you can check http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfile.../?id=893113366 for how to download and install that file. Alternatively you could copy it from another working machine.

After some updates I did have problems with direct X and I ended up reinstalling the game completely along with all the direct x redistributables that DDO has ever used.

No I can't run the game even launching it from the launcher without steam. I enter my username and password, sign into the server and get nada. And I checked if any files were missing in my install of directx as another user had suggested, they were not. Running it as administrator and setting to go through firewall, even turning firewall off did not change my results so far.

I looked again for that .log file. It doesn't exist on my computer at all. I'm telling you I searched twice man.

Just a heads up, and this is an FYI for all players: The game has logs in the following locations:
    C:\Users\<your username>\AppData\Local\Dungeons & Dragons Online
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Turbine\Dungeons & Dragons Online
    C:\Users\<your username>\AppData\Local\Turbine

The path to the second one could be different due to the steam install.
