Announcing 4th Annual Halloween Party--Trivia, Costume Contest and Trick or Treating!

I am excited to announce that the High Lords of Malkier is hosting its 4th annual community Halloween Party, with 100 all new trivia questions for deadly prizes, a costume contest and the return of Trick or Treating!! The fun begins at 9pm EST on Halloween night and will go past midnight!!

When: 9pm EST Halloween Night, October 31st
Where: Sarlona Harbor (event begins at upper mailbox)

9pm EST: Terrifying Trivia - Easy and newbie-friendly questions

10pm EST: 2nd annual Trick or Treating!! (details at the time of event)

10:30pm EST: Killer Costume Contest (prizes awarded for best costumes)

11pm EST: Terrifying Trivia until we reach 100th question!



DETAILS

Trivia
Trivia will feature 100 all new questions with a portion of easy and newbie friendly questions, pen and paper D&D questions, other D&D questions and a horde of DDO questions for beginners and veterans alike! Trivia will take place at the upper mailbox in the Harbor. Questions will be asked and answers will be accepted in general chat. Winners must claim their prizes in person immediately.

Costume Contest
While we don't really have "costumes" in DDO, we will be awarding prizes for creativity. This year's costume contestants will line up along the boardwalk outside of the Harbor lighthouse. Costumes will be judged by the High Lords of Malkier. If you want to see what others have done in the past, check out the 2016 winners and the 2015 winners!

Trick or Treating
We are excited to bring you the return of trick or treating! Want to know how to play? It's easy! Just be in the Harbor and we will provide you with the simple and fun instructions to participate. Bring your candy bag!!

Today is the big day!! Our biggest event of the year. I hope you have your candy bags and costumes ready!!

The fun starts at 9pm EST with a selection of easy and newbie-friendly questions with prize kits for newer players.

Then at 10pm we bring you the return of trick or treating. Confused about what the heck trick or treating in an MMO would be? Don't worry, I promise it'll be fun!

At 10:30 we'll host the Killer Costume Contest with special prizes awarded to the best 5 costumes.

And finally at 11pm we'll get back to trivia til we reach the 100th question. Guess what the topic of question #100 will be

What an awesome time that was! We had a great turnout right from the start. Unfortunately I didn't get a good clean group shot, but here's the 9:00 trivia turnout...




The first hour of trivia was easy and newbie-friendly questions. Winners received prize packs of several items each that were designed for newer players.


At 10pm we hosted the 2nd annual trick or treat, where 13 High Lords were hidden around the harbor and for a half hour, anyone who found a High Lord and opened a trade window with them got a treat!


At 10:30 was the 3rd annual Killer Costume Contest where we had all contestants line up on the boardwalk down by the lighthouse.




Winners were selected by the High Lords of Malkier. And the winners were...

4th Runner-up: Hennaako
Hennaako won a Robe of Trivial Knowledge



Sadly I didn't get a good shot of some of the costumes.


3rd Runner-up: Crystalrain
Crystalrain won a prize pack of 3 guild ship amenities

1st Runner-up: Hiisi
Hiisi won a Traveller's Outfit




And the winner of the 2017 Killer Costume Contest: Balltar
Balltar won a 2 month VIP code. Balltar dc'd before we awarded prizes, so please contact me in game for your prize.

And finally we resumed trivia and once again the party lasted until 2am! There was a 5 win limit on trivia and the big trivia winners were...

As I often do for the final trivia question of an event, it was a Spyce Girls themed question. The 100th prize was a Ring of the Ancestors.

I ran across one of your YouTube videos, which led to another one... then another one... then oh - Halloween party on Sarlona? OK then!

I haven't played ddo in a long time. Started playing on Sarlona in late 2012, early 2013? Lost my dad in 2013 and ended up not playing much after that. I recently started playing again, and decided to start all over since I couldn't remember many of the quests, where things were, how to move etc. I'm currently hanging out on Orien, but Sarlona still has my first toon - which happens to be Crystalrain. I was happy to log her in specifically to hang out for the party and was NOT disappointed. :-D

You guys did a wonderful job of bringing together a bunch of players, the questions were great, and the prizes were too! If you ever need a few prizes for another gathering, give me a heads up in advance and I'll gather you some. I have a ton of stuff hanging out in inventory taking up space as well, would be happy to share.

It would be really nice to see more of these types of events. It's a great idea!

I also do impromptu games of hide & seek and trivia when I have time on some weekends but haven't done spontaneous events in a while because I've been so focused on racial lives all year.

If I wanted to try recording my son and I playing, would OBS be the best option for that? Seriously considering it, because he's good - and I think I'm funny. Hahah! I'll have to cruise through your YouTube and see if you already have how to record gameplay - because I'm gonna bet you might have covered that. Very cool to get gameplay out there on YouTube for others to check out. Personally, I learn quite a bit from watching others run quests. I'll play for a bit, read a wiki, watch a youtube, run a kid somewhere, do some laundry - ya know. LOL!

I do have a video that talks about how I record and edit my videos but it's outdated. My first 3 years of videos were made with Debut from NCH Software. There is a free version, but it don't capture game sounds and the last free version of it that I used wanted to add an annoying watermark to the videos. I started using OBS several months ago and it's a better option than what I was using before. I'm still learning it though, so I'm not a good resource for information on it. Lots of videos on Youtube about it though. For editing, I just use Windows Movie Maker. It's very low tech, but it does what I need it to do and most importantly for me, it's free!

Nice! I have OBS installed and tried to record a short clip. It didn't save for some reason, so I'll try to figure that out later. I think trying to game and record at the same time might be a little much for the laptop. YouTube is a wealth of information on how to do things though, right? OMG! Wish we would have had something like that back when I was growing up. Oh yeah - the LIBRARY. Haha! Somehow it just wasn't the same.
