    Default Bad Image

I been playing the game just fine on same computer for years.. then all of a sudden the game no longer works

When i click on my icon I get this error

    https://imgur.com/a/cxRRi

I deleted the game and just did a fresh install.. I clicked on the icon this time, it let me get to character screen.. I clicked on Enter world... the game hung up, then disconnected me.. now when I click on icon it does the same error as above..

Now just today I uninstalled.. this is my 3rd time. Fresh install.. goes through the download, the patching. Gets to log in screen. I get to Character selection screen.. Hit Enter... Game hangs up.. eventually boots me.. Then when i try to run game again, the launcher gives me an error.. Bad Image whatever my screenshot says.. It does it right away as soon as i click on the icon..

This sucks.. 4 days now of no game.. No one has responded to me tech support ticket I put in on Contact support page...
You all need more techs .. horrible customer service.

    What in the world ?!?!?!?!

That's an odd one. I'd say the issue is a corrupted install file, but you've reinstalled multiple times, so...

Might be worth trying to install DDO in a non-default directory outside of Program Files (x86) or whatever it tries to install to by default. Could also be an antivirus falsely quarantining something?

I too am having same issue. C:\Program Files (x86)\Turbine\ Dungeons & Dragons Online\QtCore4.dll is either not designated to run on windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support. Error status 0x0000020

ya i already did the Cordova. I had it in regular program files also instead of x86
I have deleted the folder it saves in documents with settings.. Nothing. I put it back.. I have changed the preferences under Render in the .ini folder from DX 11 to DC9 in both places that need to be changed. Nothing.. still same thing

Tried deleting the qt4core.dll file ( 0 bytes ) btw.. empty.. Tried running the installer again.. now get launcher.exe error.. launcher wont even run with out that file... But if you put the file back.. you get the bad image..

Rebooted several times.. This is so crazy.. I dont know how the game can go form working to not working...

I really hope we can fix this.. going on 4 days now.

What i find bizarre is that if i get rid of the game completely and do a fresh install, takes a while.. like an hour or so.. but when its done patching.. then you have the box with User name and password.. I get to put in name and password.. get to character selection screen.. hit Enter world.. But thats it.. game hangs up.. get disconnected from server.. Then when you try to run launcher you cant get past the bad image error..

I am a computer Science Major, Senior, in networking and cyber security.. I don't know the code in this game.. but just trying to logically figure out what is going on is really mind boggling.. A fresh install gets to Enter world.. but then I never actually make it into world.. Something happens right there that does something to the game, where it wont even let me launch game again.. because of bad image.. I am not sure what bad Image means in relation to this game. Is it a graphics issue? A game coding issue? Direct X issue? C++ issue? Just have no idea what bad Image is.

Interesting.. Did you do anything to your computer? Like did you reinstall windows.. or something like that?

I did a full recovery on my computer a few days ago where it deleted everything on computer and did a fresh install.. I had an error where the computer would not update windows 10 ( was already 10) but it wanted to update to version 1703 , I think.. I had to Flash the Bios to get the computer to run the update, because the update would not run with older Bios. Bios that was on it was from around 3/9/2016.. but now my bios is up to date and fresher windows 10. None of that should affect the game though , mainly because a fresh install the game tries to run, but hangs up entering world.. then it cant get past clicking on launcher button / bad image..

Ok this is interesting... I just looked in the Backup folder thats in the main DDO folder.. Inside of that folder are many files.. one of them caught my eye and that was the QTcore4.dll file.. That file had 0 kb in the main DDO folder, but in the back up folder it was 2545 kb. So i copied it to the main folder, ran launcher,, this time I get a pop up that says would you like to run the high resolution something.. I clicked yes.. now I am at the log in screen.. Stand by and I will tell you what happens.

OK i made it into game...

So what it did was.. when i deleted the 0 kb Qt4core.dll file from main DDO directory, then put the 2545 kb Qt4core.dll file from the backup folder into the main folder.. launched game.. It went through the TOS.. it asked me if I wanted to run in DX11.. I said NO, so it is running on DX9 right. I am in game.. seems ok for now..

What I dont know is if I were to change it to DX11 if it would duplicate the problem again.. or perhaps its fixed with moved the backup Qt4core file over..

Ill test that in a bit.

So for now.. I think were ok.. I hope my input helps anyone else who had issues, or may have issues in the future.

EDIT... I went ahead and changed it back to DirectX11 in the INI file in documents folder. game ran just fine loaded and in game.

So it looks like whatever is going for those in the future who have this issue is to check and see if the Qt4core.dll file in main directory is 0 kb.. if it is grab the one from backup folder that is 2545 kb and copy it to main folder.. Fixed..

Excellent. That the .dll was 0 kb is definitely an indication of a bad installation, but why you would have that happen to you multiple times I don't know. Glad the backup folder had a good version of that dll and it resolved your issue.

Ya I agree , 4 times I installed.. same thing every time. The question would be.. why just that file?

I should download the game again in a different folder and look at the file when I initially have the log in screen, and then after the game disconnects, and the bad image happens look at the file again.. then compare.. was the file 0 kb the whole time? or did it have information, then get scrubbed after the disconnect that normally happens the initial time before bad image.

Im not worried about it myself, but curious if techs can look at the downloader and see if they can replicate the problem.

Anyway. Thank you for your support.. I am glad I got it figured out.

I had the same issue just recently. After the U36 Patch 2 Hotfix, I tried to login and I got the same "Turbinelauncher.exe - Bad Image". I figured it was time for a uninstall and reinstall then. After reinstalling, I got on this morning, played for a couple of hours and then logged out. When trying to log back in, I was hit with the error once again. It worked after following what cmecu did. So I do a test.... Open launcher, close launcher and try to reopen.... the error has returned. Is something changing during the opening and closing of the Launcher?

The same error continues to come back, however a new wrinkle where the file QtGui4.dll has 0mb. It works if you do the replacement from backup but the Launcher continues to change these files and create an error. A bug report has been submitted on my end... hopefully something can be figured out. Every second Launcher open seems to get the error for me.

I'm getting this issue now too. Wish I had read the fix from backup thing before I uninstalled the game. It's performing a fresh install now. hopefully it won't be a recurring problem. That would be annoying.

    Same file too, C:/Program Files(x86)/Turbine/D&D Unlimited/qtgui4.dll

Default Launcher patching/updating routines effected by lag

I'm pretty sure that the launcher is doing this to itself during the patching/updating routines.

I was in the game Sunday running several of my characters when I decided to exit the game, relaunch and reenter the game. I did this to clear the memory since I was experiencing a little lag on Khyber and had been in game a couple of hours. Generally I wait maybe 60 seconds before relaunching to let the game shutdown. When I did relaunched I got the Bad Image message.

I opened Explorer and opened the C:\Games\StandingStoneGames\Dungeons & Dragons Online folder. I've kept the game out of the program directories since running into the same problem earlier this year.

Searching I sorted the directory by size and found QtCore4.dll with a 0 KB size. I copied QtCore4.dll (dated 1/26/2017 9:05 AM 2,545 KB) from C:\Games\StandingStoneGames\Dungeons & Dragons Online\backup and overwrote the 0 KB file.

I then ran the launcher and updated and patched QtCore4.dll (now dated 10/8/2017 2:45 PM 2,545 KB) and was able to enter the game as normal.

I don't use Steam and have a very high speed fiber connection. Hope this helps.

I'm wondering if the same file (with a size of 0 kb) exists in the C:\Windows\System32 folder on your machines.
    (Or C:\Windows\SysWOW64)

If that holds true then its prob an anti virus program making sure that the same dll is used when ever its accessed from an odd location (in this case the DDO install folder) on your machines. It might also be the reason why its 0kb in size on installation.

I can't find what it exactly does but it seems to be widely used as the problem described (bad image) occurs for all those programs that make use of it.
Which also lead to a ton of posts on how to fix it which mostly consists of download it from somewhere (save) and drop it in the folders where its missing.

Definitely not a virus scan issue. No, the files only exists (in my setup) in C:\Games\StandingStoneGames\Dungeons & Dragons Online and C:\Games\StandingStoneGames\Dungeons & Dragons Online\backup. I've checked quarantines and virus scan logs and I'm positive it has nothing to do with these.

I am 100% sure the file was corrupted by the DDO launcher during its patching/updating routines.

So, how many of us need to get this before SSG realizes there is an issue? Just got it today when opening up the launcher to update the game. The launcher was there momentarily and then, bam! Bad Image notice.

Looking at QtCore4.dll is 0 kb shows a date modified of 10/17/2017 5:47 PM...which just happens to be when I tried to open the launcher.

I was able to copy the file over from the ddo backup and get the launcher going, but it's still annoying.
