    Default Mimic Pet question

Preface: I haven't been able to load and play on Lammania in ages and I'm not computer savvy enough to figure out the issue so I depend on Release notes and other posters for information.

So far it does not appear as if the Mundane and Malachite mimic pets are coming back, at least nothing and no one has mentioned them.
If they are not coming back, why not?

I would really like to help my youngest acquire a Mundane mimic pet like her brother, and I was never lucky enough to acquire the Malachite one for myself. I can understand if the price in Mimic Widgets is very high for the Malachite but I would like them both to return.

You clearly missed the patch preview - read 1st section here: https://www.ddo.com/forums/showthrea...-Release-Notes

Both of those are part and parcel of the Event.

Maybe I'm missing it but in this section:

I do not see the mimic chest cosmetic pets mentioned only the creeping coins.

The release notes are long and cover a variety of topics my apologies if the mimic chests were mentioned elsewhere but I still don't see them specifically called out.

During the recent Lamannia Mimic Hunt; Mundane Mini-Mimic creature companions were not on the list of options for items that you could trade for Mimic Tokens, while I was in there.

Aside on Thelanis, nearly constantly perhaps several times per week, ever since the 2015 Mimic Hunt you'll see Mundane Mini-Mimics listed on the Platinum Auction House. To me that seems fishy. I find it hard to believe that amount of Mimic creature companions were generated legitimately during the 2015 event or that they haven't all been sold from the 2015 event. I'd presume that's one reason why they didn't appear on the list. Plus the Developers wanted to add Creeping Coin Creature Companions this year to the rewards.

We can look into it. I'm not aware of a specific reason why we wouldn't have the Mundane and Malachite Mini-Mimics available. It's probably an oversight.

I would guess this is at least part of it. I know I'm unwilling to pay 2mil plat for it or AS at all. I've been crunching just about everything that doesn't have an augment slot or isn't readily usable to help my hubby and my eldest bring up their crafting levels. My youngest doesn't really quest much she's happy enough wandering around the public zones talking to NPCs and making up stories for them.

The prices are typically around 100,000pp that I have seen listed lately on Thelanis for the Mundane Mini-Mimic creature companions.

Of course that will certainly happen in some cases without a doubt. I explicitly mentioned Platinum Auction House (I have no idea about the prevalence of Mini-Mimics with Astral Shard Auction House). Since I only have browsing functionally for ASAH not: posting or purchasing. Thus it's extremely rare I'll ever open the ASAH other than to observe others covetousness actions.

Albeit you can probably go on about several of DDO servers and you'll see Mundane Mini-Mimic posted regularly within the Platinum Auction House.

It is quite possible a lot of people just aren't interested in purchasing them (they tend to be noisy and rattle when moving, which can be distracting to some).

Perhaps a certain minute percentage of Mimics were purchased legitimately via the DDO Store. Or a there are small pockets of surviving Mimics that were legitimately created via the 2015 Mimic Hunt. But never found a new loving owner [purchaser] that wanted to clean-up their Mimic slobber, so have done several circuits of the Auction Houses, etc.

Rarely, small pocket of Mimics may have eventually made the perilous trek onto one of the two Auction Houses; ones that have been languishing in someone's storage for years. Albeit I still suspect the main reason they appear in such vast numbers on the AH on regular basis; isn't because they were breeding (or overpriced compared to other cosmetic pets), but more likely a percentage was spawned by other unaccountable methods.

I really wouldn't know, on the rare occasion that it occurs to me to check either AH for cosmetic pets the price is usually guano-crazy high IMHO. Overpriced enough that it seems better to buy them from the DDO store anyways. As to other shenanigans, again I wouldn't know, I can't even figure out how to get on Lammania anymore.

The cards to get the Mimic certificate were both common, so players who farmed the heck out of the mimic hunt festival would get plenty.

If the wanted the Malachite Mimic pet, they would have to turn in a lot of Mimic pet combos, as most of the time that combo gives a Mundane Mimic pet, which a rare chance for the Malachite.

One of my guildies gave everyone in the guild a Mundane Mimic pet; he'd got so many looking for the Malachite.

So there could be plenty of Mundane Mimic certificates out there.

I dunno, I wasn't even half-trying, and I pulled enough for myself, a couple of guildies, my five alt accounts that I used to have solely to pad my guild size when I was the only one in it, and still had so many left over that after they stopped selling (at a fairly reasonable price) on the AH, I just ended up trashing them.

In case you're not aware: if you use dissolvers from your inventory or green bag (NOT from the shared crafting storage bank), you'll get plat for weapons & armor, and any accessories with a "+X" number in the upper right corner of the description. Also, that's kind of awesome about your youngest making up stories for the NPCs! And by "kind of" I mean "very".

I spent one hour in the Bank quest farming mimics and that was as much of that as I could tolerate. Otherwise I got Lost motes just from regular play with my hubby and static group, although there was one guy in my static group that had the mimic repellent because he just wanted xp per min so there was some friction during the event. I managed to get a couple of mundane mimics, one for myself and one for my eldest who had been playing for about a year or so at that time. For the most part I was trying to get a few 16th level Cloaks of Night, but mostly I ended up with a decent stack of Deathward potions.

I do get some plat from dissolving, at least weapons and armor, but its just not as much as I would get for selling with my hagglebard. I spend a lot of plat on scrolls, and I keep up the cargo bay buffs.

Well if you would like to read some of her "stories" I can tell you this from listening to her talk to herself as she runs around:

Her cleric halfling lives on Korthos. That is her village. But her family is from House Jorasco and the halfling patron (I think) is her character's sister. She doesn't understand why they let the funny squidface stay there. But she likes to take her cleric to swim in the fountains.

Her human bard is from Deneith and her bard's mommy is one of the female guards there but my daughter insists she's not a guard she does laundry and look there's lots of clothes lines to prove her right. However, her bard works in House Jorasco inside the tower making potions.

Her dwarven paladin lives in the Second Gauntlet Goods with her entire family (mother, father, sister, brother) with the one exception of her grandfather who keeps an eye on her from the cargo hold of our guildship (House K Battlemaster). I'm not entirely sure what her paladin does on the side of adventuring. I've seen her in the back of a tavern "baking treats," I've seen her in the Marketplace "gardening," and I've seen her dancing in House Phiarlan.

She has two other characters but they haven't grabbed her imagination much. She knows how to type several emotes at this point: dance, sit, sleep, bow, cheer, and clap. She does still ask sometimes how to spell them but she hits the keys and remembers the /.

The Mundane Mini-Mimic creature companions tend to be the most commonly posted of the Creature Companions on the Platinum Auction House. Typically several dozen times lower priced than what you'd see any other creature companions posted there.

I also do know only Premium and VIP players can Post Mini-Mimic creature companions via an Auction House. Hopefully the Mimic Tokens are resistant to counterfeiting, and I cannot recall if those tokens are Bound to Account, even though I ended up with a handful. But I didn't get time to inspect the tokens since things on the Lamannia server were malfunctioning - so it slipped my mind.

I suppose it wouldn't really harm; adding Mini-Mimic creature companions back to the 2017 list; potentially bringing down their prices in the Auction Houses. Or alternatively it'd offer some players that wanted them, a chance to try earning them by fighting mimics rather than purchasing them from other people. :-)

Also, the higher the +# in the right hand corner, the more plat you get (generally that number multiplied by 60). So if you're looking at a reward list and nothing grabs you as a must-have, cruise through looking at the numbers. Vorpal and Speed items have an absurd increase, so those will almost certainly be the best pick from a purely deconning point of view.

haha, I love it! Quite an imagination she has. Also, now I must go looking for those clotheslines in house D *g* Sounds like she has a blast playing even if she doesn't quest!

Another player was kind enough to send me a Mundane mimic pet certificate for my youngest and this was the result:

I sent it to my daughter's character, logged her on, and it summons automatically when you double-click to add it to the pet stable. Then I called her to the computer to play for a little and watched to see what she did.

First thing she does is spin her character in place to admire her then she started running around getting her cargo buffs and talking to the NPCs. I mean she chats at them like they can hear her. Eventually she realized something was behind her character and then she shrieked "Its chasing me mommy! Get it! Ahhh!"

So she runs in circles for a minute while I'm laughing. But I told her someone was nice enough to send her character a new pet.

"What does it eat?" she asks.
    "Uhhh... Bacon..."
    "Okay"

And she knew right where to take it on the ship to pretend-feed it bacon.
After that I just let her play which mostly consists of running around the guildship and other public areas.

So thank you very kind person.

The Mundane Mini-Mimic was the more common one, while the Malachite Mini-Mimic was a rare drop from the card mechanic during the first Mimic Hunt. Our next Mimic Hunt will have a much simpler acquisition mechanic, where you get tokens from killing Mimics, and turn those in directly to a vendor for various things.

Also, we'll try to get both the Mundane and Malachite Mini-Mimics into the loot tables for our upcoming Mimic Hunt.

So one thing i was always wondering since this deals with cosmetics but has ddo ever considered doing a program of some sort of giving people a chance to design/submit a cosmetic idea. i only say this after seeing modders in other games want to create things and i know people would love to make cosmetics for ddo such as pets weapons armor etc. would it ever be possible to do something to give them that chance and allow ddo to use it if they like it?

i was thinking that when i saw Aelowny's pictures. i'm sorry if i butchered that handle name.

Dang it I still have 2 mundane certificates from the last event that I haven't been able to sell off. Might have to just dump them for cheap.

Seriously though I had probably 8 of them at one point but no rare. Gave several away to friends sold 2 or 3 as I recall.

Also just my 2 copper here but not having the vaults in the bank fire up the event is going to kill it you realize. Well unless you drop the number required to fire off the event way down and actually have the counter on it working now because even with multiple groups farming the chests in the vault it took FOREVER to get the event to actually occur and while it was "worth it", it was only marginally so.

If we had been expected to get the mimics from normal questing and manage only to get say 3 or 4 "motes" in the 10 minutes or so it stayed active well.... frankly it's not going to be worth anyone's time. And heads up but the new farming quest will be Irestone at level but even then it's hard to say that it will be worth it.

Now I do know you have worked on the event and I haven't been able to find anything concrete on what turn in's levels are or how many tokens or whatever will be needed. But if it's similar to the last event with 2000 chests needing to be opened then it will fire (I am going to guess) about once an hour. With a 10 minute window some people might be in a quest and not get any chests and it is entirely possible that they would only get 1.

Closing off the bank means that people can no longer farm for others. I know I made most of my astral shards selling off my motes in the exchange from farming. This allowed me to choose to spend my time getting no XP but generating AS while others could concentrate on leveling / playing and still have some ability to earn an event reward. This time around I would be far more likley to be the buyer however without changes to the mechanics or easily farmed quests I probably won't be.

Can you give us (or direct me to) some more detailed information on how the new event is expected to work and what sorts of items / rewards will be there? All I have seen is the release notes.
