Does that game ever pay out?

I remember using the silver wheel to kill some time once - payout is 50:1, and I dropped about 300 silver with no joy. Purely anecdotal, admittedly, but made me wonder if some dev didn't have a mean streak.

Seamus Luckypenny does actually payout money because I tested to find out last year; previously I assumed it was just a "trick text", yes the odds are rather low of him paying out... but he will after several dozen attempts, etc.

See the following image link, its of my third Assassin winning the "Silver Roll" (today) it was just faster clicking through the two dialogue boxes: http://imgur.com/a/5PYyg. Rather than moving the mouse to the Platinum Spin option. Not sure on how many clicks it took, most likely 100 or more for me to win the "Silver Wheel" spin.

I saw this thread and was gonna go get that screenie for one of my alt accounts. Noticed on the log in I hadn't logged this character on Sarlona in 3 years.

So first thing to do after logging in, of course, is to tap that freebie DD roll.

Well, after scoring 35 ASs just for logging in I figure I'll leave the windfall of plats for someone else.

I know in the past and yesterday on my home server Thelanis, it only took maybe around 100 attempts to "win" the "Silver Roll". I'd presume the odds of winning the "Platinum Roll" are probably higher, one in several thousand(s)? Of course we don't know how the House Edge system is loaded in the example. Albeit you'd presume the DDO Developers wouldn't want you winning "profiting" that often (presumably the House would pocket on average more than it pays out). Neither would they want people exploiting the "payout" to generate endless Platinum using automated scripts, etc.

I do happen to have a couple of level four '100-Favour bots' on Sarlona and probably haven't played them since last year... They'd be Platinum Capped at 10,000pp so I couldn't even take 1-Million until they reached around Character Level 11. ;-) But they'd still quite probably be able to generate around 1-millon within a few weeks from selling on the Auction House; common items I'd gain from looting Chests, just from casual play alone. So I've personally no real great interest in trying to see how many tries it'd take to win a "Platinum Roll" and receive 1-million platinum pieces.

However, later on in the day for entertainment; I did loosely around: 2000-2500 "Platinum Rolls", without any "Winna", which wasn't surprising since the payout is meant to be: 5,000pp. Thus it would be fair to assume on average, its going to take perhaps over 5000 or more attempts, and of course you could get Beginner's luck (assuming the Developers didn't rig the system).

Morbid curiosity and boredom sent me back into the hunt.

Today = 1-1/2 hours, 3 cans of Mt Dew, half bag of Ruffles, and 3500 spins.

    No joy.

No worries. You got all days of this year left to get a character to level 11 if that is the only hindrance .

I just met up with our first winner and ceremonically gave him his reward money. Congratulations Warcifer~~~

Ran another 500ish spins Friday, nothing.

Then logged in Friday afternoon for my weekly Gold roll, and...

Where the heck is this kinda luck on my regular characters???

All told, I am up to 4900 spins with no spinner luck.

    --- edit --- edit --- edit ---

This is unreal. So I go from posting this to log in for some spins, and I've got a Silver ready to roll again...

I'm gonna have to give in and actually start playing this character again.

Yeah, I did 300 and then another 300, got bored. I know, rationally, that the odds are against, but I also know that I don't need to fight the odds that hard.

    GL to all!

    Default Booyah!

I almost fell out of my chair when it actually happened...

    Levinian

This took somewhere between 3500-4000 rolls to accomplish.

"When asked if the developers hate the players, as they make so many challenging jumping puzzles, their response was that they have what they consider a “… normal amount of contempt for the players.” This is good. A dungeon master should always nurse a healthy contempt for his or her players."

    Awesome!

I ran another 2200 last night before I face-planted on my desk.

Now it's more about stubbornness than the plat - tho the plat would make for a nice gravy. Besides, if I don't log in here to spin, I'd just log in to Hobbit-side and do some fishing.

    -----------

Alas, even stubbornness has it's limit. I had yet another go this morning intent on clicking it to win it. Well, a couple thousand spins later, I concede to myself that if I hit 5000 I'll quit. ... Well, I did hit 5000 spins, then spammed a quick batch of a dozen or so more, then wished we had the LOTRO emotelist so I could /slap Seamus. Then looking at the clock and realizing I've sat here almost two hours clickety-clicking, maybe I should /slap myself!

Oozo is out. He's taking his Tomes and Mirror and going home.

    GL y'all.

Thank you! That kind of repetition leads to mind-floating, zen-like trance states, and to be honest, I was somewhat afraid that I'd zone out and miss the winning dialogue and click right through it... I ended up going through five sessions or so until I got the lucky roll.

And I know what you mean about the off main server dice rolls, I rolled a druid on Cannith for the March of the Bears & occasionally log him just to do the roll. Last week he got 1000 XP and a Sib's cake, and two weeks before he pulled another 1000 XP and a tome.

Back to the OP though, I remember discovering this little mini-game back way back when I was fresh off the boat from Korthos. After doing about 20 or so rolls at the time, I still hold the same thought now that I initially did back then:

"When asked if the developers hate the players, as they make so many challenging jumping puzzles, their response was that they have what they consider a “… normal amount of contempt for the players.” This is good. A dungeon master should always nurse a healthy contempt for his or her players."
