A useful thing to note about wands is not only do they have 100% success with even only 1 level in the appropriate class, even if the spell doesn't go into the spell list until later, they have a hard minimum level that ignores the minimum class level required to cast from spellpoints - so a CSW wand can be used by a ranger at level 5, same as by a cleric, despite rangers needing 14 class levels to cast from SP.

If you want a UMD splash, your best bet is 2 warlock since it's both a class skill & you get the +5 bonus. Gnomes get great UMD bonuses too; +2 just for being a gnome, extra in racial cores & more for the dragonmark plus the extra dragonmark uses. I've combined both on one toon to the point where I was able to get 100% success on Heal scrolls when they become available at level 9 - which is better success at that point than even a pure cleric can manage

Pro tip with displacement scrolls, displacement doesn't have arcane spell failure from armour - this also applies to nightshield, since it does double duty as a divine & arcane spell.

Less building & more the previous general one, but don't be afraid to use consumables instead of hoarding them, that's what they're for! In addition to the usual restoratives & low level buff spells, Greater heroism, restoration, fireshield, death ward & higher caster-level versions of haste (so longer duration) are all available in potion form with no minimum level, make the most of them!

I try to have spell resistance when I can, but with the forthcoming changes it's going to be getting something of a reduction in effectiveness again if you aren't drow or deep gnome. Still, an extra layer of protection is nice - people won't go without a 20% miss chance from blur, I don't see why people don't look at spell resistance in the same way.

I also love scion of shadowfell, the vampirism working with ranged is fantastic & despite not being the most outright powerful option, it's phenomenal on a monk or barbarian with their combination of easy access to very high healing amp & high attack speed/AoE attacks that'll proc multiple times.

I like to have both pin & ottos whistler twisted when possible - pin is great as a combat opener while enemies aren't moving (invest in sneak to line up a nice IPS shot) and applies the helpless debuff, so following it up with another powerful shot like arrow of slaying, headshot or an adrenaline-boosted attack if you're in fury destiny can trim an encounter to a much more manageable level or even end a lot of fights almost as soon as they've begun.

I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was, now what's it is weird and scary to me.
