What I think SSG is doing behind the scenes.

I can't imagine that a company that wants a long future would put ALL of it's eggs in two old baskets (DDO and LOTRO of course). I suspect they are in the planning stages or possibly even in the early coding stages of a new game. Maybe it's DDO2. Maybe it's LOTRO2. Maybe its something else. I hope they have plans for more than just DDO and LOTRO.

So now begins speculation. What would be an awsome new game they could produce?

I wouldn't mind seeing something similar to DDO but totally re-imagined with a future post nuclear war theme. I really hope they would maintain similar mechanics and game philosophy that DDO uses with an updated engine and graphics....and of course a few less bugs.

What do you think? Do you think they are up to something more? Or are they just going to ride DDO and LOTRO into the sunset?

What would your dream game look like?

FYI...this is not intended to be a doom and gloom thread...I'm not predicting any type of failure for the games or the company...it's just some rumination on what we think is the future of SSG.

They seem to hardly have the staff to continue development on the games they have, nor enough resources to solve their frankly devastating CS problems.

I'd be legit stunned to learn they have the capacity to do anything beyond having wishful thoughts about developing anything new.

I suggested just recently that SSG take on Gamma World Online as its next project:

SSG doesn't have the funds to develop this internally (I would assume), but the company might be able to bring in outside investors to cover the development costs of a 3rd MMO.

they don't need to do much else--10 years of development in quests, wildernesses etc should keep an easy flow of interest.
Buff up the new player experience & you are good to go.
