Not that it's a big deal, but any particular reason you bumped up WIS & CHA instead of starting CON 16? EDIT: this would also allow you take Toughness + eToughness instead of Epic Reflexes. Or conversely, consider Insightful Reflexes instead for your lvl 18 feat.

IIRC, Rapid Reload is a bigger speed increase than Rapid Shot for xbows, so I always take it first: i.e., RR (1), PBS (1), RS (3), then the rest. In the long run it doesn't matter what order you take them, but it might help a little in low heroics.

Definitely take Opportunist for the extra 10% Fort bypass. As far as Enhancements go, Killer is worth it, IMO, particularly if this is a great xbow build since you get full benefit from Doubleshot.

    Thx u,
I will swap around rapid reload. Was thinking that was for repeaters, and you don't get prof until lvl6 core3. But I'm using a keen lt Xbow so rr is best at 3.
On the stats, I don't like negs in general, and I thought it would better for wis and cha skills, plus saves, over the measly extra hp you get. 30 hp diff at cap. I have max con gear so always have high hp toons. Plus I run reaper and that's boatload of hp.
    Maybe take opportunist.
And no way I'm putting 20ap into assassin. Harper for the spell points for cocoon. Harper looks like much more add. I may test it to see the diff.

Assassin has a lot going for it for an xbow build: Killer, Venomed Blades, extra SAs, Assassin's Trick, extra INT, Damage Boost (doesn't stack w/human anymore, but who doesn't want twice as many Action Boosts?). My baseline for pure Mechanics is something like 41-44 Mechanic (capstone + tier-5s) / 23 Assassin (Killer) / 3 Acro (Fast Movement) / 7-8 Harper (Know the Angles), leaving 2-6 APs to tweak things: e.g., racial bonuses, extra INT, Haste Boost from Acrobat, Versatile Adept from Harper.

That's the exact setup i use. Especially when running fury, killer is super easy to keep stacked. It basically recharges itself.

Assassin is super great for gxbows. The more doubleshot the better.

For lvls 3-5, use Harper T3 for INT to dmg. Then when you get to lvl 6, I would respec into Targeting Sights + Fletching (+10 Ranged Power, 80% Returning). Do what you want with your APs from there. EDIT: though obviously T5 Mechanic when you hit lvl 12 should be another build milestone, so plan your APs accordingly.

In this cave you live so dark
    Guarding treasure in your park
    The game is living free
    Roaming about gleefully

    I am an ancient one
Grown old and now am done
I have travelled far an near
Make my home in this cave dear
    I no longer run

What do you offer young thief
    My boredome for some relief
    I will kill you yet
    Do not forget
    Here, have another leaf

    I offer you the light
That you guard in the night
    No tale I can't tell
    No dragon I can't sell
I have a dare for you in this plight

    I'll offer you my life
If a bigger tale you can rife
    We can travel the lands
    Singing songs with our hands
    Perhaps find you a wife

To leave the safety of the nest
To do what I do best
Is no small and wondrous thing
Yet in my ears does it ring
I have an inkling for this quest

Your life I do not need
It is you who will be freed
I am the king of bling
    If you win, the ring
    I'll even take the lead

    A bard I will be
    White dragon for me
    A minstrel that flies
    Singing the biggest lies
    You will lose, see?

    A slave you'll become
    A plaything for my fun
    I'll have you acquiring treasure
    For my pleasure
you'll always be on the run

The joke will be on you
    The first in my zoo
    I'll have you sized
    Perhaps my most prized

    This build is smokin
Vorpal lt repeating Xbow since 6
And it all dies before it gets to you
    And fast
Like the arti build pre 12
So far been able to solo elite and r1
    And trap evrything
    I really love running trappers
Today I was running restless isles
Haven't been out there in forever
    So I went exploring
Found all kind of optionals behind locked doors
    Easy for a trapper
    What was old school design
    For rogues
I wish they do more like this in the future
Solo'd ghola fan on elite with cleric hire
Lots of mobs and a long quest
    But it was fun.

Waited till 13 for good gear
I'm slowly crafting some level 7 stuff
But those levels go so fast
Want to farm heroic slavers a bit too
    And get a set

    Ap?*
    38 mechanic
    8 Harper
    3 TA for run speed
    3 human

    Trapping stats at 20.
    So far they are 50-60

    Now some things in mind.?*
No rings yet. Got a prowess at 17, and some named rings for epic. So leaving those floating.
Looking at great Xbow. I did a dummy test at 12 with a vorpal Xbow, and it was same as the lvl5 lt repeater. The repeater was better even, faster to down dummy. But that will change 18-20, where I am going. Got a epic divine artillery and fatal flaw, so will put those to the test.
Not sure how to get dodge higher? Robes? I can cc some dex gloves, will add 5. So a +3, so gotta raise dodge cap. Is that light armor? I will do some tests. I got robes.
And Greensteel. Maybe a great Xbow? But I haven't crafted any gs in a long time. Will have to read up on wiki. But I like vorpals...

More poetry from the tale of the joker and the thief to follow.

    Notes
Just ran EE bazaar. Pulling 150 a shot with 700 crits. Pretty sure it's aleady a 10k dpser. Pretty much blowing holes in things.
Will have new gear at 21.
The difference on the max dodge I found was in the armor. Most armors had like a 10 max, but the drow outrunner is 22. I guess robes have no cap. Didn't really try it yet, maybe to see what cap is on toon.
Will likely have to craft a cc int helm. Had one with wizardry stunning, but my spell points are covered. For kta and cocoon.
Hip flask is nice, as the capstone. Already put to use. 5 charges.

Going as a Harper agent, get like +4 int and extra sp. no need for assassin. I couldn't justify it. The sneak and killer are not how I play this build. Generally I will hold ground while attacked, since I draw aggro. So likelys the melees getting flank rather than I.

Running double rainbow with nerve, getting hold so I twist sense weakness and grim precision. Good fort pen with extra damage. X3 bolts a shot and über dps. With ips.

Took at 18 insightful reflexes. It like a +10 bonus. And it's important.
530 hp. Kinda low, but I don't really engage in combat. So I let someone aggro, and then dps it to death before it can get to me. Pretty effective so far. But was running iq r1 and was able to hold ground. Not so I found in EE. So I'll go back to dancing all over the battle ground.?*

And I can genrally trap EE without goggle swap for +15. But I do to make sure. Will need to make a pair of 21 goggles.

So I'm gonna run in primal to fill that out, and take an arcane epic past life. Other trees all maxxed. So it's my pick. But I need 3 arcanes for epic completionist.

    Level 28
Just crafted a reaper slavers int ring. +17/4, with a festive intelligence +2.
That brings int up to 70.
Because I kept my cc int helm that has insightful4.
And I got my slavers gear, couple pieces, and divine artillery.
Omg. Chews through EE. It's 15-20x4 8.5x2d8. I've seen 4k hits on it. Sneak damage is about equal base hit damage, or 300. And it crits a lot, usually for over 1k a shot.
    Gravy train.
And at 29 I'm putting on robes. What I got. Maybe will get a pair of leathers. That would complete a set. But I checked dodge in robes, and it only went up to 25 from 22. And this with a lanimated rope on. So I'm not sure where all this talk of 50% dodge comes from. I know on my monk I could get it up around 33%... So I need to research max dodge some more, and I guess maybe insightful items. But I'm not going to max this build. I was amazed at the ring, as I got some more wizzy lives to do, and it's a great generic ATM. And I looked forward to lvl 30 capstone, but couldn't find a decent place to slot hide on anything, so I'll have to go with a more base score.
Oh well, I will be at 30 through this weekend, then roll for a arcane and rogue life. I've got a paladin build lined up next.
Philanthro will continue harping at level 30.

    http://ddowiki.com/page/Dodge_bonus

When it comes to Dodge, Mechanics are at a disadvantage compared to Acrobats and Assassins, since your T5s don't include Dodge / MDB bonuses and you (probably) can't afford the Dodge cap bonuses from Acrobat. So the max Dodge bonus I would expect on, say, a gnome Mechanic is 25% base + 3% Nimble Reaction + 2% shipbuff = 30% Dodge cap. [Armor-wise you could use, say, Celestial Avenger leathers and twist Lithe for MDB 30.] You could boost that to 34% with Scion of Air or Astral Plane, but neither of those is as good for Mechanic DPS as Ethereal Plane, IMO.

    Notes
Played a r2 slavers the other night. To get 29. The build was super smooth, getting crits of 1500. Made reaper easy.
I can see why mechanic is a goto build. Very easy to play. Easy ranged, and can do all the traps. I am most impressed by the skill list and depth. I really like having all the skills.
Running in shiradi all through epics. Rarely used pin or ottos, that would come with more practice. 28 was the big change. After that, an epic divine artillery, gravy train.
I played this as a Harper build, though most said go assassin. I found the +4 int and sp for kta and cocoon to be a good trade off. And it fit the nature of philanthro, being true neutral, keeping the balance, which is what the harpers do.
The only gear difference would be the bracers. Everything covered on them except strength. I would slot an augment in another item and free the bracers. Maybe for a slavers item. But as it is, crafted a slavers intelligence ring. I aim for 70 as high stat on any toon I build now.
The only thing I would change on this build is to take slippery mind.

So this is/was the story of philanthro, a Harper, meeting and travelling with a dragon.

I'll tell you of a Harper
Of a king from a pauper
    I'll leave out the names
    It starts with seven dames

I would consider executioner helm and legendary knife toed boots. You'll kick your crit damage up to 2.5-3.5k. You'll get relentless fury, insightful deception, moar seeker, and some str to boot (no pun intended).

Right now I am running Shintao monk
I use silent avenger and adherent of the mists set
Would likely be different setup for rogue, tho I would use silent avenger
Likely mists too, but maybe a few different items
    If interested in stats,
Look at my theory crafting the celestial monk,
    In monk forum
It has gear sets and stats

I was bumping this cause I pulled volley,
But may do a dex build instead of int,
    Or not...

I've played this up to 30, but I seem to be a glass cannon with mediocre damage. Likely its gear thing, but hoping for any advise!
