Check out ED37's heroic challenge farmer build which will take you to level 16 so not much else to take after that. Gear is straight forward for the most part and should give you an idea of what you need.

if you enjoy playing the little people halfing makes great monks.
if you want a str build go humane being a 32 point build take a extra toughness feat for the h.p.
start at level 1 favor grind your way to 20.
by the time you hit 30 this will open up all your favor perks and i believe a +5 tome.
if your on Khyber there are people that run max favor for every toon
i am sure it takes a while she has it down pat.
i think this would be the best way to learn any class you want to play at 32
and would give you the most out of the game.
good luck and have fun playing your monk.

    Default So much to Learn...

The main reason I started playing DDO was because they had the Monk class.
    Love D&D and the Monks!
Tough going at first but worth the rewards.
If you go Light Monk you get a healing attack at very low levels.
Think Vampiric, great for stayin' alive!
I've run both Halfling and Humans so just depends on the flavor you want.
Humans are great for the boost to Healing Amp (Light Monk).
You can get great healing on hits once you "mark" your target.
My original Human Monk (pure) gets 6-8 HP back per hit on monsters at level 22.
That's PER HIT. Crazy. I am sure Min/Max people get more. But I play just to have fun.

This website is hands down one of the best if you want to do research.
Don't know how many hours I've spent going over the contained information.

More Monk-y goodness here too that is blog oriented:

I wish you luck, and don't forget about finishing moves.
My first Monk I had ever built I had no idea how to do all that.
So made it to 20 without using them. Hahaha.
Looking back, what a mistake! Life would have been so much easier.

    Dwarf Shintao

Adapting for other races is pretty easy. So is changing it to have the Power Atk/Cleave/GC chain instead of Whirlwind.
