Feelings Toward Annversary

There have been a number of threads regarding the Anniversary Gifts and events. I find myself very indifferent this year and feel that this time of year should be exciting for the game find it just another day to log in and play. As a result I would love to see some responses to what people feel about this years anniversary.

I think the fact that they only gave 2 cakes per account is what really soured the event. Sure the items weren't things that made made you jump and shout with joy, but when they had made the anniversary cakes 1 per person in the past, people thought it would be the same this year. I guess the sense of entitlement is getting the best of some of us, but if your gonna throw a memorable party, don't just bring out Dixie cups and kool aid. and invite a few friends. Splurge a little and invite all your friends.

I disagree with him too, but you did ask for input. No need to be rude to someone who does not share your opinion.

I was excited about the upcoming Anniversary. When I learned of the 2/account limitation, my heart sunk. I try to tell myself that D&D is about hard choices. At best, assuming I choose the BtA items, I can share the wealth with my characters on 2/8 servers.

It helps to remind myself that most of these items can be easily farmed, but I have always been the kind of kid who would rather unwrap five boxes of five crayons instead of one box of 25.

That last bit is pretty much telling others that they have nothing to complain about, there are plenty of other threads that devolved into that (I got roped into one myself) and am trying to avoid it here so my response to vote or not and move on was probably the appropriate one, its not about my opinion or defending my position which was in the OP.

Definitely a missed opportunity. They certainly shouldn't have tried to match the scope of last years Anniversary, but they could have at least given all characters regular old 11 Year Old Cake, with a list that matched the 6 Year Old version.

Okay I was underwhelmed by the Free Gift but more because of the 2/per account issue than the reward list. I am still after all this time an altoholic and nothing is going to change that for me. And honestly, I really enjoy the Anniversary Quest. I love that they made small changes to the event and hope that they continue to do so each year going forward. I love searching all the nooks and crannies for more hidden Easter Eggs.

The quest itself is a slightly 4th wall breaking microcosm of the DDO game world, so the more tongue-in-cheek jokes they add, the more hidden hats-off, the more cameos and easter eggs the better for my personal enjoyment.

Some of the changes this year included:
Nohbob (as the workman too busy to play)
Cordovan's Bee fixation
Torc the Rustmonster
Kobold Foreman (on strike)
Mysterious Package (gift from Ravenloft)
Nibbles
New gnome girl at the Coin Lord's table.

Am I tremendously excited for this anniversary? Mmm not exactly. Am I enjoying myself? Hell yeah or I wouldn't be here.

Too much focus on gifts, when the real fun is in the event. We could have just had the even IMO without the gifts, because it's an 11th. A 15th would be special enough for free gifts. Don't misjudge me, I'm very happy with the free gifts, but am moar geeked on the event (and getting collectables). The event/challenge is a nice break from the normal day to day.

A little bit surprised that there's nothing reaper related in the anniversary list. A flat 100k reaper xp bomb would be pushing it, but something like a 6 hour +75% reaper xp elixir (paused outside of reaper quests) would have been a nice shiny option.

I expected more from first ddo anniversary with SSG being free from their former overlords rule.
Xp is ok-ish reward i guess

I'm kind of glad to see Monty Haul stayed at Turbine to tell you the truth.

I'm hoping we get little nerfs here and there that cover some of the power creep and AI issues that developed from 2012 onwards as Turbine dumbed down the game so that anybody could play it easily.

I personally did not find the BTA loot compelling, but at least 3 other players I run with in semi-static grouping (all of whom are more casual or newer to the game than I am) found things on there they were excited about. None of them visit or post on the forums.

I suspect that the forum population, which skews toward veteran/power gamer, will find these items less compelling than the overall player population due to having already acquired them in their grinding. Not every reward/event needs to be focused on veterans or the most geared/skilled in the player base, however.

I'm fine with an event that works for them.

Yep, not every event has to contain massive power creep for the player-with-everything.

An 11th isn't a particularly big anniversary unlike the 10th so I think people expecting that giveaway to be topped are just greedy. The reward list includes a bunch of neat things for newer players, and comms/xp if you don't care about that. What's the call for all the moaning?

I didn't vote as a more reasonable sentiment is "The anniversary event isn't exciting, nor do I want it to be. Just a neat small bonus and an amusing temporary quest to run a few times as a break from regular questing until I get bored with it, much as other events."
