Default Salvage an old character for a returning player 6wiz (1x wiz pl)

I TR'd my main, a wizard, forever ago and ended up leaving the game shortly after. I don't think pale master was even out at the time. He is warforged, level 6 wizard, and has some ok raid items from back at the 20 cap. The game seems much more solo focused now and I'm not sure if I would be in for a struggle with him as he is now. I have a +0 and +20 wood if needed.

I always enjoyed crowd control, but after reading the forums for a while it seems like thats gone out of style. Unless, maybe, you have a ton of past lives and very good equipment. I guess the plan is get this guy back to 20 for the second wiz past life and then either play Warlock to the cap and see what the new stuff is like, or work on Wiz/FvS past lives and look forward to a day that CC comes roaring back.

Any ways, to summarize because I think I began to ramble...

    * How to make leveling a 6wiz warforged as painless as possible?
    * What are generally the favored past life farming builds for wizard?

    Thanks for your help!

Pale Master would not be a bad choice to take this Wizard forward. Insta Killing might be tough on elite unless you build specifically for it...but you could do quite well on Hard and Normal up to level 20 (Even Solo). WF Wizards are still a good solo choice.

I would hang on to those Hearts of wood...they are valuable unless your current character is just totally screwed up.
Leader of Legion of Eberron on Cannith.

    Characters: Loromir & Baldomir....among others.

AM tree is also a good option for the WF Wizard. As you have access to self healing through repair/reconstruct.

What I recommend is looking into grabbing a melee hireling - Favor WF when you can.

With AM popular trees are Evocation, Illusion and Conjuration.

If access to the Harper Tree, there is an other option to improve your DCs via extra Intelligence or even open up melee options using Int for to-hit/damage. If going melee look at also getting some enhancements from the EK Tree.

Pure WF wiz is still fine for most content; and if you want an Enchanter build, banging out two more wiz PLs for extra Spell Pen is a good idea anyway. Max INT & CON, load up on metamagic feats, Evocation Archmage for the SLAS (Arcane Bolt / Blast, Magic / Chain Missile), equip Impulse spellpower gear, blast your way to 20.

Thanks for the replies. I was hoping to save the hearts as a kind of future proofing, so I'm glad I can more or less pick up where I left off. Is there a particular reason that Evocation, Illusion and Conjuration are popular for AM? I'll take a peak at harper and EK and see if I can pick up some of the melee fun without losing too much caster side as I have a few decent heroic level weapons. Settling into an enchant focused build eventually would be great, and I guess the secondary focus for Evo would allow me to actually participate on bosses.

I'll be interested in what people have to say when Reaper comes out. I'm not as big a fan of this every-man-for-himself meta I'm returning to, so if control and healing make a resurgence I won't be sad.

Evocation is good for DPS spells in general, of course, and the SLAs have good synergies with Shiradi builds (that's for epics, though). Illusion is favored by gnome wizards who get Illusion bonuses and racial-unique Color Spray SLA; plus Deep Gnomes also get a Phantasmal Killer SLA which is on a separate CD from the AM PK SLA for twice the instakilling power (see slarden's build). Conjuration AM is good mostly for Web SLA which is one of the better CC spells for heroics; also acid is a good DPS option and most acid spells are Conjuration-based. I think Earth Savant or GOO warlock is a better choice for acid-specced caster DPS, but let's not go too much of tangent now...

EK is weaksauce DPS, unfortunately, but the defensive bonuses are nice if you have the APs to spare. In particular, if you want Adamantine Body for the AC & PRR, you'll need both WF and EK arcane spell failure reduction.

For a 2nd life Wizard you should be fine doing Hard content, which as Premium or VIP you can open - you would need VIP to open Elite - for the Heroic content. And Hard is fine for Epic too. Certainly for Epic if you put up LFMs for groups you will find heaps of people keen for Hard dungeons.

For Heroic, keep an eye out for Elite LFMs, and you can easily do Hard (or Normal if you do find Hard difficult) on your own.

As for gear, take a look at the Auction House. You will be amazed at how poor a lot of your old gear will be, compared to what is now available. There has been a *huge* amount of powercreep over the last couple of years.

    Good luck !
