Let me preface this by saying that I think the Character Transfer system is very cool, and I'm glad it finally got added in. With that said, I think there are a few changes that could make it more usable and more used, for increased player enjoyment of the feature (and probably increased revenue). I'll also attempt to make these suggestions around what I understand to be technology reasons, for example not suggesting that TR Caches be allowed to transfer with the character, as well as around sensible reasons like Shared Bank items not coming with the character. Here's a list of a few proposed changes, designed primarily to occur in conjunction with each other.
1. Reduce cost. In it's current implementation, the only real reason to do a character transfer is to switch your main character to a server where you want to permanently play with the people there. Transferring multiple characters is cost prohibitive, transferring specifically for some event on that server is cost prohibitive and means losing your TR Cache and guild renown, and transferring a non-TR character doesn't make much sense when you can, say, make a new character. A cost reduction would dramatically increase character transfer rates, which might actually increase revenue from character transfer; reducing cost to say 500 DDOP would mean people could transfer without paying 2,500 DDOP ($30, €28.38). This likely would have the effect of stimulating character transfer; 1 person transferring a character for 2,500 DDOP isn't as good for the company as 10 people transferring characters for 500 DDOP each.
2. Multi-Character Multi-Server transfer. Currently as I understand, the character transfer system works by letting a player transfer one character from one server to another. If this system were instead changed to having a one-time window to transfer as many characters to and from whatever servers as desired, it would be a major reason for players to do transfers. I currently have a single character on each server that isn't my main (Cannith) placed there to grind the initial favor bonuses from level one to max and for raiding. I never raid on other servers anymore, and those characters are detached from my main server and don't have access to all my shared resources, as well as already having gained favor rewards from their respective servers, so there isn't much point in me using them. When character transfers were introduced in the new format I was considering bringing them all to my main server; however, the cost of transferring 7 characters currently is 17,500 DDOP, which would require spending upwards of $150. If people could instead transfer all 7 characters at one time (Note that transferring them at different times would cost the amount multiple times) for 500 DDOP, then I could see myself and many other players doing it.
3. Persistent TR-Cache/Guild Renown on original server. Assuming that transferring a TR-Cache isn't possible due to technology limitations, how difficult is maintaining that TR-Cache on the original server? For example, say I transfer a character to Orien from Cannith, and his TR-Cache doesn't go with him. This system would mean that if I ever were to transfer that character back to Cannith, even if he went from Orien to Sarlona, and Sarlona to Ghallanda, and Ghallanda to Wayfinder, and then from Wayfinder to Cannith, Cannith would maintain the original TR-Cache, which just wouldn't be useable anywhere else. If I were to TR on Orien, then Orien would contain it's own Orien TR Cache, while Cannith would have it's own Cannith TR Cache. This would encourage, instead of making character transfer a very permanent and final thing, something that could be used more fluidly (Taking a character to Orien to play with some friends for a while, and then eventually going back to Cannith to find your stuff still intact). Guilds could function similarly, with a character that has been transferred remaining in the guild and marked as a recent departure, but being restored to original status on their return and not losing any accumulated guild renown.
4. Character Transfer bonus days. In the bonus days, include a deal that's something along the lines of 1 free character transfer (For any and all characters) and 50% off additional transfers for the duration of the bonus days. Players could then transfer characters to other servers for free, although bringing them back (In that session, you could wait until the next bonus days for another free one) would cost 250 DDOP. This would allow for a lot more inter-server mingling during these weekends, instead of running the same raids with the same hundred people you've known for 10 years every Saturday.
