Default Announcing our 2017 Teaching Raid Series starting Sat, Jan 7 with Legendary Shroud

Happy New Year Sarlona! I am very excited to announce our 2017 teaching raid series!

For the fourth year, the High Lords of Malkier are once again hosting teaching raids for new players. For those that weren't around for past events, this was a series that we started 3 years ago and we cycled through every raid in the game twice each year over the course of the winter and spring. Now teaching raids return for 2017!

These events are designed for people that are new to the raiding scene or still learning raids. Even if you've never run a raid before or feel that your gear isn't adequate to run raids, that's ok, these events are set up for you. Last year we even had one person that literally never grouped with anyone in DDO before. If you've been turned off from raids because you were intimidated by them or you had bad experiences with jerk raid leaders, then you are among those who we have in mind for these events. First timers welcome! Dbags not welcome. We just ask that you please have sound and be willing and able to follow instructions.

The goal is to welcome newer players into the raiding scene, to teach people how raids work, to get players more comfortable with raids, and to enhance the Sarlona community. We know there are a lot of people out there that have been playing DDO for a long time and have avoided raiding. This is a great chance to start. If you're new, this is a great time to learn! There is no level cap for any of our teaching raids.

We will kick off the of the 2017 series with one of DDO's most classic raids: Legendary Shroud, this Saturday, January 7 at 9pm EST! Due to the high level of Legendary Shroud, we are going to set the minimum level to sign up this week at Level 23.

If you are new to Legendary Shroud, you will need to be flagged, which requires completing 2 quests in Meridia: Creeping Doom and To Curse the Sky. You can run the quests on Heroic or Legendary to flag just the same. Note for newer players that these are different flagging quests from heroic Shroud. We will not be doing heroic Shroud as a teaching raid because it runs almost the same as legendary Shroud.

Usually all spaces are spoken for by the time of the raid, so reserve your spot ahead of time! If you would like to reserve a space in this Saturday's event, please contact me in game on Gingerspyce or preferably Voodu, who I've been playing mostly lately.

If you're a little unsure and you want to see how we run our events, you can check out our collection of teaching raid videos in the Guides & Strategies forum that we did during the 2015 series.

We hope to see you in raids soon!

    Much love,
Gingerspyce and The High Lords of Malkier

    PS. For new players...

There is a help channel on Sarlona where new players can ask veteran players questions in a positive environment. To join, type "/joinchannel help" and to post in help channel be sure to set your outgoing messages to userchanel 1 (or whatever # channel it is for you if you are in more than one channel). Or you can type "/1" (or whatever # channel it is for you) then your message. Veteran players that are interested in offering help to new players are encouraged to join! If you're new to setting up chat channels, you can check out my video How to join a chat channel and modify chat windows.

I won't join for this one, I am still level 15 pending a new case exhaust fan. But thanks, and happy new year.

    Hi,

    thanks for doing this again.

Please put me in the backup list, I'd love to join if I manage to run the flagging quests in time before you guys start.

Character is a 20 FvS 8 Epic and I haven't played ddo for about a year now.

Tonight's Legendary Shroud teaching raid is still on, as long as the server restarts don't take all night

    Thumbs up It was great!

Thanks for hosting this, it was a lot of fun ;-). Very relaxed and little stress. I highly recommend these to anyone with limited raiding experience.

    Thanks again!

Default wow what a great turnout for the first event of 2017!

What a great turnout! In years past, the first teaching raid of the year typically saw low signups, but we had 5 people that were new to or still learning Legendary Shroud, including a couple who had very limited experience with heroic shroud! We had one person who had joined us for some of last year's teaching raids and several folks that were first timers, including one visitor from Khyber

I had a blast and was so cool to live stream one of our teaching raids for the first time. I will typically post the teaching raid for the week on Mondays, and I hope to see many new faces in the weeks to come.

If you missed it, here's the live stream!
