Once an item has been crafted with a bound ml shard and become bta, is it possible to blank it by re-keying item for crafting and use an unbound ml shard to make it tradeable again or is it permanently stuck as bta?

I actually didn't know the answer to this so I...
- Bought a cheap unbound item on the AH (111 gp)
- Decon'd it to prepare it for Crafting
- Added ML 1 shard to it (10 essences) - Item became bound to Account
- Decon'd it to prepare if for Crafting - Item was still bound to Account
So there appears to be the answer. Once a bound shard is added the item will continue to be bound to account.
I actually knew it was still bta after the re-keying, it was whether putting an unbound ml shard on it afterwards would change it back again, didn't want to waste precious essences if it was a waste of time.
I kinda doubted it, but was hoping against hope it might be possible lol
While I doubt adding an unbound shard would make a Bound To Account Item Unbound. I'm not sure how a ML1 Unbound shard is going to break the bank. Essences are really not that hard to come by. Now if you were talking collectables sure I would understand.
Personally, I'm convinced with the above experiment that the item will be Bound To Account. But you seem to be just one step away from being sure yourself. Take the step. It really is not that expensive.
I feel a bit daft not thinking of making an ML1 item, was thinking of the actual level I needed, having said that, an unbound ML1 still costs 100 essences and I only had 501 essences.
It may seem trivial to an established player, but I am struggling to level crafting, and my highest chars are only 14 so I don't gather essences very quickly with small playtime and low yield from that level loot.
The only way I am ever leveling up with the ludicrous amount of essences required is to stockpile them till I have enough to justify using the xp/success pots, so I need to have enough for continuous crafting for the entire duration, hence not wanting to waste any.
I blew most the ones I had making a set of items usable by several characters, but those were mostly shards that gave no xp for the level I was at, so now I am back to square one trying to save them up to try level.
Anyhow, I did nevertheless decide to "waste" the 100 essences and sure enough, the item is still bta so at least we know for sure now lol.
