    Default new install won't update

I am trying to do a new install from the download. When i do this it will update to 88% and then stop. I let it stay there for hours, and it will not progress. I even stopped it and had it try again, but it wil always stop at 88% and will not go farther than that on the fresh install. Now, it will install from steam, but I don't want it attached to steam because i get interrupted by people who see i'm playing and trying to chat with steam. Is there a reason it will install from steam but not a download from this website? I am running windows 10 64bit, amd Phenom II x6 2.81 ghz, 12 gb ram, and a 500 gb ssd with over 100 gb free space

Haven't tested this for a while but it used to be the fastest way for me to get DDO.

    Install and update via steam.

Navigate to Steam directory and copy the DDO folder to a new location on the HD.

Remove local content on Steam (never wanted to know how long I'd been playing for!)

Drag a short cut from "DDoLauncher" to Desktop and you should be good to go.

I tried to copy the folder and then run it but that did not seem to work very well, and so i tried to repair the install, then i tried to do another install from the link that we have here. but on the repair install the launcher will come up and it will get up to the point where it stops. it always stops at 88% over all, and for the dat files it usually stops on client_map_2.dat-16844. I tried to upload a file to show this but it won''t let me attach it. it keeps giving me an error message when i try to upload the file.

I have been trying to get this fixed for a while and i have found an older version of the game on a computer backup but even that would not work. I am thinking that i might be able to get it to work if i had a full up to date working version. does anyone know where i can download the full game not the stupid loader?

so i have found something out and i don't know what is going on or why. I am being helped by turbine support, but every-time i get to the same file all network activity stops. once i get to client_map_2.dat it just stops downloading. if nothing else is running you can actually watch the network activity drops to 0. If anyone knows why this might happen on my end please help, but i'm guessing something is wrong on their side.

Turbine is using Akamai Netsession to deliver large updates, so that's probably what you're having problems with.
Whatever problem you're having needs fixing, because otherwise you'll likely have this same problem again
the next time there's an update to DDO.

You can try disabling your virus scanner while updating. It's also possible that Akamai had an outage and that
the problem will simply resolve itself, although it seems you have tried it several different days.

Another possibility is to let Steam download and do the updates, then copy (not move) the DDO install
to another location. When you do this, you need to run "RegisterGDF.exe" (or something like that), and
then you can launch the game with DDO Launcher. If you ever run DDO from Steam, you'll need to do
the Register thing again to run it from your copied directory.

    Stoner81 may have an alternative.

I actually went into windows safe mode with network support, which removes antivirus, and firewall issues and each time it stops at client_map_2.dat and i also tried to ping their patch server and it comes back as "request times out." that is i pinged patch.ddo.com. so if this link works, i think turbine should use it instead of their current launcher to install their game.

It is a player-made solution, not official, but it worked for me when Windows 10 gave me grief on an official install. My OS problem has passed, and I now run an official install just to satisfy a minor bit of OCD on my part.

Glad to hear it. Stoner81 is one of many players who put in extra work to keep the game fun for us. Happy gaming.
