Default Crafting level 400 and success rate

My halforc monk just hit level 400 crafting. The process has been a long, painful one, and involving several LTRs to and from artificer. (Reason being that LTR resets your penalties for crafting the same shard several times, which allowed me to squeeze a few more 1000s out of essences and collectibles gathered by myself and a large group of people in my guild)

Crafting level 400 will give you 16% (51% with a max 35% success booster) chance to craft a 425 shard. (unbound insightfuls).
If you craft multiple 425 shards, the success chance will NOT change, as it is tied to the crafting level. So that chance is fixed as per now.

Further, if you in addition are 20 levels of artificer and further more, human with three dragonmarks of making, you have a theoretical crafting level of 420, but that is not considered for the success chance. It is fixed linked to the crafting level.

In the process of confirming if this is WAI, and my guess (and early indications by Turbine) is that it is. In that case, I recommend people to hit 380 and then TR into a human artficer. The agony of going from level 380 to 400 natural is something I don't wish upon anyone.

Huge props to the author of the following post that allowed me to target my collectible hunting to specific things that I needed: https://www.ddo.com/forums/showthrea...em-Efficiently

Yes this is what I did. I leveled a character on an alt account up to 380 and then leveled him to character level 20 and then lesser TR'd him to arti with dragonmark of making using free stone from enh pass. This took me right to 400 and I continue to earn xp. I only used collectibles in a few recipes the rest was all essences.

The only thing I would add is that it's best to make your unbound crafter on a non-playing character so you retain your crafting xp changes as you get experience crafting.

For example I made two +7 insightful dex shards for people playing thrower builds and my success rate is now 20% instead of 16%. As long as I never tr, etr, lesser tr I will continue improving my chance to make shards for each two I make.

Remember the crafting success only changes for every 2 shards you make of the same type. So if you made that conclusion by making only one shard - trying making a 2nd.

I did make several shards, and on a natural 400 crafting level, I do not gain XP nor see a change in the success rate. The reason you see it, may be that you're not on a natural level 400, but an adjusted one. It may be the difference, and I believe that to be a bug. A friend of mine experienced the same. It may also be impacted by my LTRs... Need to be confirmed by dev, and once Lammania comes online... I'll check it out.

Did you make 2 of the same shard since your last tr? It makes sense you wouldn't get xp since you are capped, but crafting chance should still improve. In fact this issue may be tied to xp - once you stop getting xp the crafting success chance stops changing - but that is total speculation.

You may be the first to 400 legitimately - well done!

Not getting a single XP, which may be expected once hard-capped at 400. Waiting for NoWorries to check his code *poke*

Edit: I did make several shards, and on a natural 400 crafting level, I do not gain XP but I saw a change in the success rate.
So you don't get the XP, but the success rate is increasing if you make the same shard several times. It may have been my LTRs that have screwed me over.
But I still make the claim that the grind to get to natural crafting Level 380-400 is not worth it, as you will have no benefits. As long as you hit 400 with artificer levels and human dragonmarks of making, you are good!
