(I mentioned this here in this other thread and it got some agreement, so here it is in its own thread)
A bit of history; skip down two paragraphs if not interested--
Originally, the old Mabar items (Wraps of endless light, Cloak of Night, etc.) were lost and not continued with the demise of the Spectral dragon/gargoyle fight. Due to forum protests and kind requests, they were brought back during the mimic event, and then found their way back to Night Revels where they really belong. At the time of their creation many updates ago, the gear was seen as quite powerful and hence a ridiculously difficult upgrade path was created of long upgrades, much like the Bottle of Rum of Crystal Cove. One needed, and still needs, to start at the lowest grade and upgrade them through every four levels. This system remains since the devs were going out of their way in the first place to have these items/weapons/gear etc.
In that long transition, random loot was upgraded, legendary levels were created etc. making these gear items much less powerful. Their long upgrade path does not make sense. It was re-implemented for those forum posters who really wished to still be able to upgrade, like throwing them a bone; however, I believe lots of new players (and those with alts) would really like to have some of that gear. The gear also represents a large part of what the Night Revels offers.
TL;DR
- Create item upgrade paths like the Cannith and Crystal Cove challenge gear for The Cloak of Night, the Docent of Shadow, Robe of Shadow and Wraps of Endless Light.
- Make it possible to create a tier 1 item at the level one desires (like level 16 or 24) instead of needing to upgrade the items from level 4 upward.
- Have two more tiers of optional upgrades. The final upgrade could feature an augment slot, like the current successfully reworked Cannith Challenge gear.
(The eternal wands can remain as they exist.)
I predict that this will renew interest in both the gear and the event without actually adding anything new.
Thoughts?
