Default Gargoyles drop T4 cultural sometimes

Gargoyles can drop Chipped Bone Talisman, Ivory Scorpian Icon and Polished Ore from T4. Polished Ore being the truly coveted drop. Of course they can also drop at least one other cultural level, I think T2 Blade of Dark Six and Funeral Token for example (not sure the last two are the right examples). I have not been taking notes on this, so I don't know if it is the same for all gargoyle types and places. Plus it really isn't any more efficient than adventure packs and rubbles since they can drop so many different things, drop so rarely, and don't know of any place where there are tons of them available to kill.

You could try farming ToEE part 1, it has the room on the right hand side full of gargoyles so it would be a pretty quick run if you go straight there. Part 2 also has all the gargoyles around the pyramid room but I think it would take slightly longer to get there.

    I've heard that it's difficulty-based. Possibly Elite = T4 drops, Hard = T3 drops, Normal = T2 drops.

I just went into Taming the flames and killed 100 mobs most of them elementals. That gave 5 bags, all smoldering ember. As I was after Stone Fetishes that was exactly encouraging. Any idea on the lenght of farming on average I am looking at for 5 Stone Fetishes?

30 seconds per cultural translates into 2:30 to farm a specific uncommon, though your results may be a bit slower if you don't have a collectable farmer. Figure 3:00 per stone fetish to be safe, so 15 minutes to farm 5.

Now that anniversary party is here there is a real good way to farm mainly Arcane and Lore collectables. Just pick level of collectable you are looking to farm and I start with Side Hall and get Adventure Pack and Bookshelf. then head upstairs Art Gallery to get Cabinet. Finally head to Private Rooms to get Adventure Pack, 2 Cabinets, 2 Bookshelves and Alchemy Table. Hope this helps out.

IMHO, the teleporting mist makes Cordovan's room not worth it anymore. Even assuming you can self-cast DW to avoid the neg level, the random teleportation and needing to orient after makes it no longer economical.

I love this guide! Will it be updated for Ravenloft?

Also, for people looking for polished ores, Wheloon slayer area is great

    Question Seeking Soarwood

    Great post, thanks.

Can anyone confirm where to find soarwood? I've looted hundreds of tier 3 arcane without finding any, lightning-split or otherwise. I tried a few dozen each at tier 2 and tier 4, just in case, but no luck there, either. I've also looted hundreds of tier 3 lore.

Speaking of which, Mad Tea Party is a fantastic source of tier 3 lore, if you can get through a locked door.

    From here:

The Enemy Within (Normal, Hard, Elite) Video
0:18 to farm one Arcane (10 Arcane, 1 Any in 3:05)
Need: AoE damage to kill large groups, DDoor for fast recall
    Fight: Frostmarrow skeletons
Notes: Get backpack (Any) at blue wall by golems. Break door for crude altar (Arcane), kill skeletons to proceed.
Up stairs kill skeleton archers to open doors, go right for 4 alchemy tables (Arcanex4), left for five more (Arcanex5), DDoor, reset.
Optionally pick up treasure bags from skeletons if you need undead-themed tier 2 culture (Funerary Tokens, etc...)

In the video one of the arcanes collected is a singed soarwood.

Nice! A better tier 3 lore farm is needed. I'll check it out when I get around to buying Ravenloft.

    Thanks, I'll check it out.

It has me a bit dismayed that of 22 collectables (give or take) in the video, precisely one was a soarwood -- specifically, singed soarwood. If the common variety is that rare, what does that make the rare variety?

BTW, my apologies if I'm rehashing an old discussion. My browser (Chrome Canary on Mac) said there were 3 pages to this thread, then later said there were 12 pages; and whenever I click on a different page, more often than not gives an "Oh, snap!" message.

The video shows me picking up 11 collectables, but also you can see the last 7 from the previous run. Those 18 collectables were:

    Common
    6 Ceramic Bowls
    6 Lodestones
    2 Singed Soarwood
1 Romantic Sonnet (from the backpack)

    Uncommon
    2 Glass Phials

    Rare
    1 Crystal Decanter

Soarwood is clearly less, but we need a larger sample size to determine if soarwood has a lower drop rate than the others.

I used loads and loads of lodestone when crafting weapons with good and vampirism on them, and then Enemy Within was my place to farm lodestones. Very glad I had such a good place to farm them, would not have been possible to craft as many weapons without it

My impression then was that I got loads of soarwood too, and I ended up with loads and loads of lightningsplit soarwood after my farming. But I did not write down any numbers, and it could be that as I was farming lodestones and got LS soarwood frequently confirmation bias made me think I got more than I really did

But my impression was that I got some kind of soarwood fairly often, and usually more than one every run.

    Default Better T1 & T2 Lore option (also drops T1 & T2 Arcane)

Love your guide. Use it religiously. Not sure if you're still updating it, but...

Your recommended option for T1 & T2 Lore is Mirra's Sleepless Nights. It has one Lore node after a fight with 4 mobs and opening 3 doors and sometimes you also have to fight in the room with the bookshelf. Then you recall (too long to run out).

Your recommended option for T1 & T2 Arcane is Caged Trolls. This one's pretty quick, though the sleet can be a pain if you don't have FoM.

You can replace both (all four?) with Repossession (Sharn Syndicate chain). It has 2 Bookshelves (Lore) and an Alchemy Table (Arcane).
For T1 collectibles, run on HC, for T2, run HE.
    All three are easy access.
Run in and up stairs. Break door to left and fight dogs and trainer. Bookshelf (Lore) on one side of the room and Alchemy Table (Arcane) on the other.
Run to the other end of the landing into the other bedroom for another bookshelf (Lore).
Recall or (even faster) run out.

(There's one more collectible in the end fight room, but that's not worth the investment in time)

This is inherently much better than Mirra's for Lore and equally as good as Caged Trolls for Arcane. And the fact that you can collect both types as easily or easier than just one or the other in the previous recommended quests makes it a much better farming option overall.

Repossession is the clear best Lore farm for Tiers 1 and 2, for sure. It's not great for arcane, but you're right that it's solid if you need both. Another option if you need both is Tomb of the Immortal Heart: 240 seconds to get 10 arcane and 4 lore, either tier 1 or 2 depending on difficulty. Repossession is significantly more efficient, but if repetition gets to you the longer runs in Immortal Heart can help take the edge off.

For arcane tier 1, Tomb of the Crimson Heart is the best farm I could find: 4.2 arcanes in 75 seconds, or 17.9 seconds per arcane. For comparison, Caged Trolls is 30 seconds for 1 arcane.

For arcane tier 2, Tomb of the Crimson Heart is still (barely) the best, but almost as good is Enemy Within, which yields 10.2 arcanes in 185 seconds, or 18.1 seconds per arcane. I find it superior by virtue of the less repetition from longer runs, though there is a fair amount of fighting involved.

See this thread for all my farming data, including video of each run.

I'd quibble with you on the 'not great for arcane'. Based on your own data, Caged Trolls takes 30 sec to loot 1 arcane, while Repo takes 35 sec to loot 1 arcane plus a bonus 2 lore. If you skip the 2nd lore, it's as quick or quicker than Caged Trolls and still nets you 1 arcane and 1 lore. Based on a quick viewing of your video, looting the 1 lore in the right side room sets you back 5-6 sec.

So if you only want arcane, you can run either Caged Trolls (30 sec for 1 arcane) or Repo (29-30 sec for 1 arcane + 1 lore.. maybe shave another second or two if you skip both lores). Can't think of a reason Caged Trolls is better, can you?

You're doing this backwards, IMHO. Hit the one on the right, then hit the room on the left and ignore the dogs and trainer, grab the collectibles, and run out.

Caged Trolls (1 arcane in 30 seconds) is itself a poor arcane farm. The only reason I included it in my farming data is because I tried to include F2P alternatives as much as possible.

I offered the better arcane farms in the post you responded to: Tomb of the Crimson Heart (17.9 seconds per arcane) and Enemy Within (18.1 seconds per arcane.)

I'll accept that as a valid consideration. Wouldn't hurt if you identified the ones that were included because of their F2P status, then.
