One of the advantages of the Staff is that casting a spell from it works either at the Staff Caster Level or at the User's Caster Level which ever is higher.

Outside of the Staff of Power we have not seen a staff with this type of utility for a long time.

Now as for this staff from Slavers. I am actually planning on using it and not because it has the elemental damage bonuses, but because it is a way to use the 3 and 5 gear set bonus. I do have plans that will make is useful to my build but I will admit that there is only 2 reasons why I picked the staff - 1) because it can be useful for when I go from DC to DPS mode 2) because to me it feels more wizardly to wield a staff (Which is why I too use Twilight from 23 through 25). But it is the Other Gear and the ability to craft it up to replace what I had in both hands and other gear consolidation that makes this valuable.

The biggest issue is that they have never made staffs that would equal the power of two different 1 handed options. Now they did try the Thuruage Staffs, but without adding "Charges" for casting a utility spell or boost to staffs they will be less desirable then the flexibility of two items being able to switch out spell power or Primary DC types or even switch in and out spell penetration boosts.

    Both great suggestions.

When you go into dps mode wouldn't you rather have 150 spell power instead?

I like JOTMON's suggestion to be able to combine an Orb with a Staff.

I'm going to be the exception and say that if you are fueling your casting with LD/acrobat/horc helpless, it is a great weapon.

Even if you are not, it is on par with LGS for casting hell ball, which is a caster staple for divines which lack strong damage spells.

And divines can get huge value out of a hellball weapon for LD/Acrobat/Horc helpless since their trees and base spells are the weakest for damage.
