    Default Launcher/Client Win8

    Hello,

I am trying to run ddo on win8. The launcher will start, but when it comes to logging in the clients does not start, without giving an error message.

I think it could be that it tries to run with Edit:dx9 which might not be supported by my machine. Is there a way to switch to Edit:dx11, which is installed, from command line? Since i can not log in I can not switch any settings ingame, just in launcher or command line. Probably it is something completely different.

    Thanks,
    morkahn

    hi there,

think the first question is if you actually have directX 9 installed. for some reason the game seems to require directX 9 as a baseline sometimes, you could try installing the libraries in addition manually.

    Quoting from a different thread:

That's the one I use on a frequent basis.

edit: repasting link cause in my settings at least the colors make it almost invisible: http://filehippo.com/download_directx/
(and yes Stoner, I have you bookmarked in multiple places, thanks for being awesome)

that should allow you to change the directx version in options once you get to the character selection screen in DDo. Worth trying, posting if it worked or not, and then waiting for the people who are smarter than me

I got directx 11 installed. I guess I should not change version nor install two versions parallel. Maybe there is a possibility to run ddo with dx11 directly via command line?

I edited the initial message, I was surprised I got dx11 installed. Did not look into dxdiag.exe before.

    Ah good old DirectX...

DirectX 11 doesn't have any of the older legacy files from earlier versions, as a result in order to get DX11 to work on your machine for DDO you will need to install the file from the link posted above. You could try running the launcher as Administrator since you are on W8 and see if that helps, failing that have a look in the installation directory and look for the log file (enable file extensions and it should be called dndclient.log IIRC) and copy and paste the contents here for us to look at.

for clarification: installing the directX9 version does not delete or modify your existing directX, it just adds further files and libraries for reference. I have done it on my windows 8 and 10 machines, and it did no harm. and it's not like the two versions are competing with each other, but think about it kinda like: the game sends a request to either/or version depending on which you choose in options, but for the game to understand that directX11 exists, it first needs to see directX9 exists.
