    Default Soul Gem: Dragon?

In the new crafting system Dragon Bane requires a Soul Gem: Dragon. How do you get one? Unless I am mistaken, every dragon in DDO is a red-named (or purple-named), and immune to all insta-kill effects. Which includes Trap the Soul.

Are the Psuedodragons in the Stormhorns adventure area Red/Purple named? I believe they are classified as dragons, per the wiki and MM.

Not red or purple. Those are the mini-dragons Uurlock is referring to.

According to multiple Dev's during recent Lamannia events - that is the source of the missing soul gems.... Of course SSOIDH - so here is a virtual 1,000,000 clam bounty for the first screenshot proof that this is true.

I haven't loaded Trap the Soul in a while since it really is not as useful in Epic Elite and Legendary Elite content with the HD cap of 30

I have not tried to catch a Psuedo-dragon this way, OP is correct if the dragon is not Purple Named, it is at least a Red Named otherwise Trap the Soul spell and Epic Souleaters would be overpowered in a Dragon fight .

Now on the black market -- for 10,000 AS each . O)

I do find the description humourous because only place to get these AFAIK is in the Stormhorns - on Faerun; so why would the trapped dragon soul be screaming for Siberys, Eberron, and Khyber?

"Eberron" is also the name for the land of the world, and is also referred to as the Dragon Between. Siberys, the Dragon Above, is the name given to the planetary rings which surround the planet. Khyber, the Dragon Below, is the name given to the underworld, and is similar to the Underdark in many other settings. According to the creation story, the world was formed when the progenitor wyrms changed their form into what they are now. Siberys and Khyber fought, leading to Siberys' body being broken into pieces. To stop Khyber, Eberron wrapped around him, and Siberys' broken body became a ring around them both. Siberys created the dragons, Eberron created humanoids and other "lower races", and Khyber created the "demons" of the world. According to Keith Baker, there is some significance to the fact that each name contains the morpheme "ber", but he has not stated what this is.

I just spent an hour running around Storm Horns. All I found were satyrs and owlbears -- and harpies on a small island on a lake. Where the heck do you find pseudodragons in there?

foothills... heading UP. Not too many around IIRC - but there are a few... usually with lots of friends that aren't pseudodragons.

I was exploring Epic Stormhorns with a level 21 character. It just occurred to me that Epic pseudodragons might generate Strong Soul Gems. Should I go into Heroic version instead?

BTW, Epic Stormhorns can be touch and go for a level 21 first-lifer!

I would recommend Heroic for now. Hopefully I will be able to go out next Lammania build and check out the Epic pseudodragons.

one place is right outside of what goes up. 2 often spawn there. And yes you will want to go to the heroic stormhorns to get a soul gem: dragon

Another spot is the keep just south of the North teleport point (on the way to Breaking the Ranks) - often has a few pseudodragons.

Yep there is also 2 if you head back to the start from the northwest teleporter (the one by the shrine)just as you turn to go down the hill there is a structure and you can get 2 there. That is probably the easiest to make a few quick runs, but the hardest to explain.

Just did 3 quick runs. 1st run there were 2 in the lower red circle area. 2nd run there was a Red Named giant at the lower red circle area, and 2 pseudodragons in the higher red circle area. 3rd run there were 2 in each of the red circle areas.

Edit: Just ran the Epic explorer area and I did in fact get 2 Strong Dragon soul gems.

Very nice a picture is definitely worth 1000 words!

This will be very helpful and should go to the wiki. Yes, I got the regular soul gem in heroic, but I was thinking it might be possible with scaling that you could get a strong soul gem so it's best to solo. Level 19 is borderline for sure as i used to get strong earth elemental gems (forget exact name) from a level 17 quest on elite.
